  1. ^ KI has needed a full service sit- down restaurant for MANY years now. It would be nice if CF decided to build a TGI Fridays at the park. They could actually build it outside the main gate and perhaps have it open year round. Speaking of restaurants.... Has anyone been to the restaurant at GWL?
  2. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewt...p=496050#496050 There are some very intresting rides, as well as Flight Commander. And if you look closely, under the "Flight Trainer" definition it references KD as opposed to KI. Did KD have a Flight Commander or is this a mistake?
  3. Well comparing Disney to any park is unfair. But when I go to a park like Hershey or BGE and see that their themeing is immaculate, and then go to KI, it is hard not to be disappointed at the state of the themed rides KI has. And those parks are open the same amount of time as KI.
  4. That would still have been a Paramount decision to increase the maintenance budget after the first season. But even at that, Paramount should have known how much to budget in the first place. Especially after only one year. Again, my only hope is that whatever plans CF has for these rides, they keep up with the themeing. IMO the themeing for each ride is 50% of the experience. I would actually forgo a "new" ride, for older rides that are operating 100%.
  5. You can't even compare DT at CP to any ride at KI for a variety of reasons: 1) 1985 to 1989 DT was actually Avalanche Run. A rather boring ride that had lines of 3+ hours when it first opened. In the couple of years that followed, the ridership for AR plummeted faster than Six Flags stock. Kinzel decided to try and save CP's $7.4 million investment and tried to make a new ride by enclosing it and adding some heavy themeing. Kinzel has since admitted that this was one of his worst decisions. 2) AR was never intended to be a themed dark ride. 3) Even today, DT does not have enough riders to justify spending money on keeping up with the themeing. 4) Entering 2008, DT is entering it's 20th season. For at least the first 8 years the themeing did operate. 5) Most of DT themeing was while waiting in line as opposed to the ride itself. 6) And even though there are some themed rides, CP has never claimed to be a theme park. But now compare DT to rides that depend on themeing like TR and IJ is apples and oranges. Even with the themeing, DT may not be defined as a failed experiment, but it is darn close. And neither TR (2002) or IJ (2005) is even close to being a questionable ride or as old as DT is. And actually, comparing DT to any themed ride is an insult to the ride itself.
  6. Quite honesty, I could care less what the names are changing to. I'll just hope for the same thing I hoped for when plans for TR and IJ were announced: Please keep up with the themeing. Paramount didn't, let's see if a name change and possible theme change will mean continuous upkeep under CF's watch.
  7. It was funny when I first watched the news in Atlanta. The first thing that I noticed is that "City Council" is never a focal story on any newscast. The second is that it's not often you ever hear a story about "race relations" as it's just not an issue down here. I don't think Cincinnati News would be able to fill a broadcast without these two topics. How true.....i lived in Virginia Beach for 3 years, and it was so different. I am seriously considering leaving ohio again once I graduate Sorry to say, it's just not Ohio. I am a salary worker in a union facility and have been for many years now. I have to deal with racism issues more often than I like to admit. And the thing is, neither side is innocent. Both are equally terrible and cause very small issues to just blow up into big time problems. And the issues are so minor, it is sometimes hard to not laugh at people for being pi$$ed at each other. Stuff like: "Well she keeps looking at me, and I don't like it." or "I overheard them talk about me." So my response is: "What was said?" and the answer is: "Well it was hard to hear, so I really can't be sure as to what they said, but I know that they were talking about me." ughhh...
  8. Even though it is sad to see an icon like Kennywood sold to any entity, the owners did what they though was right to do. Let's hope that the new owners will keep up with the "old park" feel that Kennywood still has. And to carguy92... Give me a break. Other countries have been purchasing American assets for YEARS. I have a difficult time believing that Kennywood was the straw that broke the camel's back for you. Hey if someone from a different country wants to come across the ocean and open a mini-mart, who are we to stop them. Remember that the America is the home of FREEDOM. My great-grandparents came to America as did millions of other people with a dream. Our country was founded with the notion that everyone is free. If these people that speak "broken english" have since become American citizens, why can't they open their own business?
  9. ^ You can also see the area where IJ currently is located as well as where Vortex is at as well. But what does an old 1974 picture have to do with a parking lot construction?
  10. CP has always gone for the family audience. People just don't look at CP that way. Especially since CP has 3 different kids areas throughout the park. It is just that since they have more coasters than any other park, people always considered CP to be for the bigger kids at heart, not the smaller kids by size. And media days for new kids attractions/ areas really don't get the same type of media coverage as a coaster would get. For comparison's sake as of 2007 CP has 23 kids rides while KI has 18 and SFMM has 10. And as to CP's kids additions since 1982: 1982- Kid Author's Court (removed in 1999) 1985- Berenstain Bears 1986- Sir Rub-a-Dub 1992- Berenstain Bears additions which later led to Snoopy's Playhouse, and is again being changed this year. 1999- Camp Snoopy 2008- Planet Snoopy
  11. You have not proven a thing. You made references to how much money KI gave as a sponsor (which according to the sites you provided could be any dollar amount that KI decided) yet with no proof. You made references to KI having no input as to the events, yet with no proof. You made comments to "trust you", and since you come off as a troll, it has been rather fun to wind your clock over something that means absolutely nothing. You have resorted to message board insults because we have brought up possibilites of what KI could be planning for the future. Sure it is a tax write off for KI. And it is also great publicity. But why is it so impossible that KI could be testing the waters for a future return of Winterfest?
  12. Since Winterfest is the title to an event, be sure to capitalize the "W". Give it the respect it deserves.
  13. Please, no parking garage. If you think that the parking lot looks questionable now, adding a cement building to it for cars will not help. Adding a parking garage to KI's parking lot is like adding a building to a failed ride, directly on a Great Lake shoreline. Wait a minute... Yeah, don't give CF ANY ideas. It would just add up to a disaster, especially at closing time.
  14. Exactly how do you know that?
  15. Exactly how much is a "little money"? Aside from the fact that if there were things KI did not agree with, they would not give any money. If the park did not sponsor this event in the past, it does raise speculation. Perhaps it is good will for Mason. If so, good for the park to sponsor the event for Mason. But it is intresting that the park would sponsor anything that does not take place on park property. Especially in winter when the park is closed. Sure, it could be considered good advertising. But why does the park not run TV ads when the park is closed? Perhaps there is no reason to...
  16. ^ You are lost man... Let's put it simple for you. Don't tell people to stop giving thier opinions. If you don't like the "crap", move on. Deal with the plain fact that everyone is not going to agree with you. Nor are they going to enjoy the same things you do. You want to see the ride stay. Good for you. If they want to see a ride torn down, that is their opinion. Deal with it and move on.
  17. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/features_...y-makes-ch.html
  18. Hmmm... That is intresting. Why would KI sponsor an event that has no association with the park? Or has the park been the sponsor in prior years and is just keeping with tradition? And a Christmas event at that. Could this be CF's way of sending out feelers for popularity to possibly bring back Winterfest on their terms?
  19. The attendance came within 8% of projections with an increase of 800,000 from last year. That really is not too bad.
  20. Yeah, I'm defending exactly what you are claiming to be doing. And I'm not bashing your opinion at all. If you don't like people's opinions, don't go to a message board. Or should I say this to level the paying field: Enough with the keep it running crap!!!! It has been a money pit from day one. The ride is taking up so much money, other things in the park have been neglected. If the park cannot operate the ride with out people being injured or even enjoying it, what is the point of puring more money into it? Just stop saying it is good enough to save...we get it. We got it the entire first year when it was not enjoyable. And even after numerous modifications, it is one of the least enjoyable coasters out there. Its hardly much better now IMO. It was terrible before the new trains. Now its hardly better than it was when it first opened.
  21. If you don't want to hear people's opinions, don't go to a internet message board. If you can't handle it, don't read it.
  22. I'm really not sure how anyone can vote for the old SBNO SoB. I'll take a coaster that gives a questionable ride, yet still operates vs. a ride that is a large lawn ornament.
  23. Who says enthusiasts are not unrealistic?
