At multiple points in its history Kings Island has had a total four dark rides/enclosed attractions operating: Flight of Fear, The Crypt, Action Theater, and Boo Blasters on Boo Hill. (You could argue we have had six with the scenes on Adventure Express and Mystic Timbers but I just consider them show sections) In the recent years the number of dark rides/enclosed attractions has dwindled to two with just Flight of Fear and Boo Blasters. The Crypt obviously had its issues and the Action Theater kinda lost its luster during its final years before it retired. So what happened? Are dark rides not worth investing in? Are they too complicated to maintain? I know Disney and Universal parks have plenty of dark rides but those companies have the capital to pull it off. There have been a few dark rides that have bit the dust within the past decade: Curse of Darkastle, The Crypt and Action Theater are the only ones that come to mind but I know there's more I'm missing. With all this in mind, could we see more dark rides return to Kings Island and possibly other parks in the chain? I remember when people thought we'd get a Triotech dark ride like Wonder Mountain's Guardian which never happened. The Crypt building is still standing to many still speculate that something will be installed inside. What of Action Theater? Can it be brought back and operate or does it need to be overhauled? Look how long Boo Blasters has been at the park unchanged since 2010.

I agree I wouldn't mind a side coaster update. I think we all know that in vertigo's living on borrowed time and that's most likely going to be the next coaster to bite the dust so we will be without a "front entrance" coaster. I know I beat this concept like a dead horse but I wouldn't mind if we got a dive coaster to fill that space and sacrifice Congo Falls as well. It wouldn't have to break any records or anything, just be well themed, have a 90° drop, and look visually appealing. I know Cedar Point has Valravn but I don't think it would matter since more and more dives are popping up around the world. Maybe there's a better type of coaster to replace Invertigo and serve as eye candy but I can't think of one off the top of my head. @coaster sally I wouldn't be opposed to a parking lot coaster as long as it's not like Scream! and has grass and looks like its part of the park

I have a few ideas on how to update Oktoberfest for the better: Relocate Slingshot to Area 72 or to a different section of the park to allow more room for a flat Get rid of or relocate the ladder game and shorten/reroute the Adventure Express line to accommodate an additional flat Rebranding Hank's Burrito Shack to something that represents German cuisine: "Hanoch's Goetta Haus" or something along those lines Finally (calling in the 11th commandment) maybe theme Adventure Express to Oktoberfest while keeping the name? That one might be harder to pull off

Along with a lot of random thoughts that come through my head on a daily basis, I churned up some old memories of people talking about wanting a front gate coaster as well as an updated front entrance. With this in mind I decided to make a poll to settle whether we should get a front gate coaster along with an updated enterance or not so please feel free to vote. I personally said that we don't need an updated entrance or a front gate coaster. I think emerging on the other side of the restaurant and seeing International Street with the Eiffel Tower and the fountains is a pretty awesome experience. It's very similar to one you're at a sports arena and you walk through a tunnel and you see the whole field open up before your eyes. Also I wouldn't want a front gate coaster like GateKeeper, Leviathan, or Fury 325 because it would take away from viewing the Eiffel Tower walking up to the entrance. In theory if you do it right anything will look good but for now I'm happy with the front gate how it is.

Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks

Seeing Scooby Doo at another park is like seeing an old girlfriend with someone else -
I understand why they stopped the actors/actresses because it became a transport ride in the late 80s so it didn't make sense. Still if you look at other amusement parks that have railroads they still offer props for guests to view. Look at Cedar Point:

I must be missing something, what was said? -
I'd say if its an empty train then probably not. If they're using the dummies then I'd say yes

I personally feel like one might be going to CP in the future. -

There is logic to your statement and I agree a dive wouldn't be my personal go-to coaster for that plot of land, I just created it for fun! I don't think the GP really nitpick about coasters as much as the enthusiasts do though. I think you'll start to see variations of dives pop up around North America (personally I think there's not enough of them over here). I think if we ever got a dive it would focus more on theming and quality more than stats. I'd be interested in seeing B&M make something like a higher capacity Euro-fighter that focuses more on inversions rather than height -

Yeah I tried to design it with Vortex's footprint in mind. Its my take on a dive machine with more inversions similar to a traditional looper. The elements had to be drawn out to lengthen the ride time and lessen the intensity. I made this one to be around 210ft tall but I believe if we ever got anything like this it would either be 200ft tall and have a 200ft drop or be something like 190ft with a 210ft drop; its Planet Coaster so its not too elaborate. The batwing would go where in the area between Vortex's double loops once stood if you're looking for a reference. I exaggerated with the cutback and should've went with a helix. -

I feel like if we got a dive it would be under 200ft tall with a 200ft drop or something like that. I still like my idea -
Another long lost proposed Kings Island Wooden coaster!
SonofBaconator replied to collin.klopfstein's topic in Kings Island
Even if the concept layout shown wasn't truly accurate, it would've still been interesting to see how this coaster would've changed the landscape of Rivertown and the park as a whole. Would we have gotten a hyper? More than likely yes but put in a different spot- either further back in Rivertown or somewhere else. Would we have gotten Mystic Timbers? I would have to say no. I think if it was built it would've eventually been given the Iron Horse treatment. With that being said I'm kinda happy this never happened -
I agree! It'll bring the camper market back to KI which will definatly bring in more guests. Having a luxury rv site near your park is a win-win because you don't have to pay to operate it but you're still able to get their guests to come to your park. It might also become more of a destination location for people across the country. I would talk to guests who stayed at CP's campground and the majority of them said they'd be more willing to go to KI and stay a few days if there was a higher quality rv park near the park.

It might've also helped it tackle the grade a little bit better with a full train. There's been a few instances even recently where the train couldn't make it up the grade and had to reverse and start over to rebuild momentum. Weather conditions can be huge factor in this. Fun fact, the Walt Disney Railroad has a 2% grade which was the maximum permitted grade allowed on the American Transcontinental Railroad. 2% isn't a lot for us as humans but for a multi ton locomotive hauling tons of weight behind it, its a struggle.

What’s in The Envelope? Cedar Point

The T-bar is one of my personal favorite restrains second to B&M clamshells because of the openness. I don't know of a lot of cases where switching to OTSRs would be a benefit, typically going from OTSRs to lapbars are a more welcomed change. -
If you follow the amusement park industry you can usually have a good guess as to what parks are going to get certain coasters. For example you're a Six Flags fan you know your park is probably gonna get a freespin, rmc conversion, etc. Though on occasion there have been coasters that have completely come out of left field. Here's some of mine: Wonder Mountain's Guardian Cobra's Curse West Coast Racers These are by no means bad rides, but I don't think they were what people had in mind prior to the coasters being reviled.

@DiamondBeast I wouldn't mind their flats, its their coasters I'm hesitant on. There are people who think that Cedar Fair will work with Intamin again and I don't think it's going to be for a while. I think they're more than content with seeing how newer Intamins like Pantheon, Hagrid and others do at other US based parks. I think we'll see something from Mack, B&M, Gerstlauer, or even S&S before Intamin is brought up. Its just too soon in my opinion.

If Millenium Force gets OTSRs I'll be super upset. I love the T-bar and how open you feel
