  1. That's what the bell bottoms and butterfly collars are for
  2. To be young again LOL You never know what may change...I mean the old timers in baseball never thought batting helmets would be a requirement in baseball, and many tried to "hide" it under their hat because they felt like a wimp with it; helmets for football - really says the old timers. People never thought smoking would be banned in so many places. People never thought seat belts in cars would be mandatory. Just think up until 1968, seat belts were not even required to be put in vehicles. It wasn't until 1984 that the first state made wearing them mandatory. Ohio wasn't until 1986. Up until 1989, dentists were not required to wear gloves and face masks...and there was outrage by many in the dental community arguing that people would quit going to the dentist as a result of these measures... Society changes because of a significant event. People would never have thought the effects of 9/11 would still happening to this day. Starting this year backpacks would not have been allowed in the Reds Stadium for example. Masks may become our new norm, but it doesn't happen overnight. It may start for employees in contact with customers initially and eventually trickle down to customers. Or it may not happen at all. Disney is making baby Yoda masks now, so masks may become a fashion statement like Guess Jeans or Coca-Cola logo'd clothing Or masks may fade out quicker than Betamax... But we never know what may happen...I mean who would have ever thought people would intentionally swallow Tide Pods or lick toilet seats!
  3. Thank goodness...did we need a mullet Superman LOL...
  4. But, but, but the website still says it is happening But, but, but it still says the three-day Christian music festival is happening... But like we really shouldn't be shocked that the entertainment offerings are being eliminated.
  5. And another gem from the corporate word salad of today's statement. Take the CEO's proud announcement: “In a very uncertain economic environment, we are extremely pleased with the market’s confidence as demonstrated by our very successful notes offering,” said Zimmerman... When is putting up your entire park portfolio a good thing LOL, especially considering that their main competitor SIX said in their respective quarterly call that they have enough liquidity on hand to survive until the start of the 2021 operating season.. Let's put this in perspective. In October 2019, Six Flags (SIX) made an offer of $4 Billion for Cedar Fair (FUN) and was rejected. Barely 7 months later FUN seeks a $1 Billion "loan" and puts their parks up as collateral and has to repay this in 5 years. Last time I checked $1 Billion is less than $4 Billion. These notes potentially represent a "cheap" way to get those parks... To the smart investor (that also had the funds and ability to do so), purchasing those notes is a no-brainer. Imagine if a SIX, Disney, Paramount, etc. purchased those notes. If FUN is able to make the payments, the investor makes 5.5% interest payment profits. If FUN defaults on the notes, investor just got all the parks for $1 Billion. That is a win-win to the investor so of course Fun will say "we are extremely pleased with the market’s confidence as demonstrated by our very successful notes offering"! Now this example has simplified it tremendously and the likelihood it happens is small. There are so many regulations that would dictate the ultimate resolution of an instance like this. Does anyone even know who provided those notes? Could a Disney have secured those notes? The point being, that a CEO of a publicly traded company will always put a positive slant on the conveyance of information, whether it be to investors or in an interview (while of course still being factual to pass SEC scrutiny). But you can take out a $1B loan and either present it optimistically or pessimistically...which way sells confidence? It is up to the recipient of said information to "read between the lines" as to what the real meaning is.
  6. I cannot help but think of this when hearing near term LOL: “Relatively soon is an interesting phrase. Relative to the entire history of earth? Sure, the vaccine is going to come real fast,” said Brad Pitt as Dr. Fauci, seated at a desk behind a stately bookcase. “But if you were going to tell a friend, ‘I’ll be over relatively soon’ and then showed up a year and a half later, well, your friend may be relatively ****ed off.” Seen at the 40 second mark LOL... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW56CL0pk0g
  7. In my experience, rumor mills often have a bit of truth in them. It is human nature to want to share "confidential" or juicy information. Obviously you have to take into account the source of said information, but in an organization, official communication focuses on messages the company wants to deliver and at a time management feels is right. The reason the rumor mill plays such an important role is that it delivers the information employees care about, provides the details employees want to know, and is delivered at the time employees are interested. Further, it is amazing how many times an employee hears of an upcoming or pending change at their work from a guest or customer before they themselves are told of it officially through their work...how does that stuff get out...I can assure you there are members of this forum that found something out about a change coming to KI and shared the rumor with an employee before the employee heard about it from KI... The key is to decipher and figure out who is saying it and their intent. Is it someone saying something (even maybe made up) because they are seeking their 15 minutes of fame and wants to be the first to mention it...or is it a legitimate source simply wanting to share their knowledge...once that is figured out, one can determine how much credibility to put into the statement...
  8. I guess you have never seen a design contract....many of which stipulate the Owner (in this case KI) becomes owner of such plans and can do as they wish. And that transfer of ownership is even more recognized by case law when the designing firm goes out of business... Standard contract language at the time would have been something like "Design-Builder acknowledges and agrees that all drawings, specifications and other documents furnished or required to be furnished by the Design-Builder (including its design professionals) to the Owner under this Contract in connection with the Project shall be deemed to be the property of the Owner (excluding any copyrights), and the Owner shall have the right to use any such documents (including but not limited to the Final Plans) with respect to construction of the Project, maintenance and use of the Project and any future improvements to the Project planned or constructed by the Owner, subject to the terms and conditions of the agreement with (design firm name here); provided, however, any independent use by the Owner of any such documents, including the Final Plans, will be at the Owner’s risk and without liability or legal exposure to the Design-Builder or anyone working by or through the Design-Builder, and Owner will indemnify and hold (name of design firm) harmless from any such independent use by Owner of such documents." And when the designer goes out of business, the owner is given a "nonexclusive license . . . to authorize other similarly credentialed design professionals to reproduce, and where permitted by law, to make changes, corrections or additions to the documents as necessary to complete, use or maintain the project." Plus who knows about any confidentiality or NDA's that may exist as part of said contract... So legally, KI staff could potentially assume ownership of the Dinn design and Jeff Gramke's Swan Lake wooden coaster could very well be said coaster without ever needing to specifically reference the origins of the concept... I am not saying that these plans exist or that the concept is accurate, I am simply pointing out from a contractual standpoint, the Swan Lake coaster could indeed be Dinn's, or anyone else's design for that matter, that KI took ownership of, and there appears to be enough anecdotal evidence to suggest Dinn involvement. Whether one wishes to believe that will be based on ones own life experiences. Those dealing with corporate world and understanding that in a small business sector like roller coasters, that these companies all know what their competitors are working on, will have a different life experience than say a teenage kid's life experiences to date... Maybe it is completely Gramke's concept or maybe not, but since there is no copyright infringement or IP infringement litigation that happened regarding said coaster and by virtue of the KI purchase of said plans, KI is under zero legal obligation to make a reference to it in any shape or form talking about discussing some conceptual coaster that was never constructed. They own it and legally can take full responsibility for the concept and deny any involvement of an outside firm, even if another firm actually developed it...They can even deny the concept ever existed. They have lots of projects in their wish list planning that never saw the light of day...most have made their way out into the rumor mill, but some probably haven't...but because it never made a newspaper article, that means KI never considered a ride that made it's way into the rumor mill? But at the end of the day, it is a coaster that KI does not have or ever had in their lineup, so it goes down as one of those what-if scenarios and after 30 years time has passed, contracts were probably tossed in the trash long ago, and people's recollection can also get fuzzy, but all we have to go by is anecdotal stories, even if they are not completely accurate,... Either way makes for an interesting story...or a conspiracy theory according to some
  9. Wow you learn the coolest things doing a search feature here from a previous Coasterstock...
  10. Has every ride ever considered for Kings Island been written about in the newspaper? Has every contract ever entered into with Kings Island that was mutually terminated and did not result in litigation been written about in the newspaper? Maybe park employees do not talk about the Dinn proposed ride due to NDA in the contracts? I have NDAs signed from that time period that I still cannot discuss... Has every contract that Kings Island has ever entered into been written about in the newspaper? Look how many times someone is questioned under oath about an incident that happened or did they know someone and they answer no, yet there is picture evidence and correspondence proving the answer is yes? Plus memories fade after 30 years and at some point it may be just a job and people don't remember every specific detail... And it's true that many enthusiasts will remember every aspect or history of a park (like years rides were installed) because that is their passion and could probably be more accurate than many park employees (not all as some of the employees it is a passion as well). Have you ever gone into a retail place to buy something you have a passion for, like cameras or tablets or computers, and know more than the salesperson trying to sell you said equipment? I have. But if we were playing Kings Island Family Feud, I would pick Shaggy and Boddah on my team
  11. Great, now we have murder hornets invading the US... would hate to get hit by one of these suckers on TTD! Ironically they showed up the same time as covid? Why does that remind me of Fury325
  12. Here is an interesting article headline - Reopening states will cause 233,000 more people to die from coronavirus, according to Wharton model So if a graduate of that school comes out and discredits this model and analysis, does that mean they are discrediting the educational value of such an institution... and by inference discount their own education...stay tuned...
  13. Not a so much a brighten, but more a giggle during this time... Imagine the looks he gets with that name being a police officer LOL
  14. Critical thinking cannot be stressed enough. In general, most of our society has lost the art of critical thinking and instead relies on being informed through click-bait, sound bite news articles and headlines, or worse, stuff posted on Facebook and reddit. How many actually read the click-bait article - most do not. They go by the headline and assume it is accurate and start sprouting it off as fact on their own social media platforms. Often times when I read the article, it actually contradicts what the headline is leading you towards. Does the media care, absolutely not or they wouldn't do it. Sensationalism sells. Brings them the revenue. Here is an example. Came across this headline article today on reddit: Brazil is letting the coronavirus run wild with little intervention, and the results are strikingly bad. Somebody somewhere is now posting and using this as a reason why flattening the curve works and why the shut-downs were needed. Heck, I was going to bring this headline here proving why the shut-downs were needed and work. Fortunately I research, so I found the actual and full article on a more "reputable platform" expecting to see unbelievable death statistics and scenes worse than anything New York City experienced. Guess what, a country with a population of 209 million people has had 6,300 deaths attributable to Covid-19. New York City alone is double the number of deaths (13,365) with just a population of 8.3 Million. The headline is the complete opposite of what the article is saying! Now maybe Brazil is heading towards worse, maybe not. The article is inconclusive and doesn't provide enough narrative. They do not paint the full picture for someone to gauge how bad. But the snapshot in time numbers they provided are not representative of that headline. Maybe that will be an appropriate headline in a couple of months, but it certainly isn't the appropriate headline at this moment in time! I get criticized for my documentaries on this forum, or wall of text as someone calls them LOL. That is fine, in many cases it simply proves my point that people do not want to read and prefer click-bait headlines... I do my research and read as much as I can and for the most part I follow what @Joshuaposted above about how one should go about reading and analyzing an article. I have also been known to find the actual data and graph it myself to confirm that the graph in the article is accurate and not some "not to scale" representation to favor their slant. I even go one step further and try to find the differing opinions or views. Let's use politics as the example - I read left and I read right. Often they disagree, but sometimes there is a little sliver they both agree on - that is probably the fact or the accurate part to hone in on. I present my research, cite my sources, why I agree or disagree with it, and try to formulate an opinion that is not one-sided. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don't. Same as the experts or the meteorologist lol. But I lay it all out there in detail for someone to understand why I came up with the conclusion I did. One of the problems with social media platforms is that it gives all voices, regardless of how ridiculous, the same equal standing as the intelligent voices. And what is worse, is that when someone questions a ridiculous viewpoint, instead of the person with a ridiculous statement being able to cite reasons and research for their position, they tend to take the ranting and raving approach. One of the things that makes our country great is we are entitled to our own opinion without fear of being locked up for having a differing opinion, but if one can present their rational for their opinion, it allows for a much more civil discussion on the merits of that opinion. TL:DR - don't be educated by click-bait headlines - do your research!
  15. It takes skills to get banned while Disney is closed due to covid https://www.yahoo.com/news/man-arrested-camping-disney-worlds-141823689.html
  16. The picture, yes, but the tweet he sent out this week is not because he lost a bet! PS: it is actually the phrase for his new team LOL...but buckeye nation sees it differently Since you want every post here covid related LOL, here you go: Tom Brady was busted for working out in a closed park. Park was closed due to covid. Tom Brady walked into the wrong house. I am sure someone could say that is a violation of the covid order somewhere. I doubt the order is you cannot visit friends, but accidentally walking into someone else's home by mistake is an ok thing to do If the NFL doesn't play this season, you can thank Tom for that LOL, Let's blame him if Disney doesn't open as well while we are at it since his missteps took place in Florida LOL Either that Michigan education isn't all it is cracked up to be or he has had one to many concussions
  17. A former Michigan player must agree and supports Ohio State https://twitter.com/i/status/1255534619581128706
  18. Or flew out or tossed from the ride.. CF is self insured so they determine the liability policy and risk...
  19. To ride The Beast with just that buzz bar that didn't touch your legs at all and no seat belt and no divider and be the only one in the seat was a fabulous ride. I loved sliding back and forth LOL
  20. Seat belts were optional in the disco era Oh the good ole days when The Beast did not have seatbelts were the best. But I did say I never had anyone pull on my seatbelt to be sure it was buckled properly. Sure the light may come on, but unlike a roller coaster, someone can drive with that pesky light on..no wait a minute, for a roller coaster the light needs to come on to be secured...why isn't there consistency lol
  21. Now if CF only had a park in IN You are right a lot will change, but based on actions to date, I do not see DeWine having no restrictions by July 4th. I am sure they will be greatly reduced, but I am sure something will still be in place, either capacity limited or employees wearing masks.
  22. Under the current Order, employees are required to wear masks... Regarding restraints, they could make that contactless and that is a possibility for many of the rides. The reality is because of the lawsuit crazy society we live in is part of the reasons for these restraint checks. It is posted and should be the rider's responsibility to know the rules and guidelines of the ride and obey them. I know the lapbar came down the required amount and that my seatbelt is secure and having a speed check by an employee doesn't make me feel any safer. Yet I witness on almost every trip a rider that thought the seatbelt was optional on one of the rides I am in line with, thus slowing the process down. I don't know this for a fact for every ride and I am sure there are exceptions, but I know most of the newer roller coasters cannot dispatch if the lap bar/restraint is not secured, so the employee speed check is more for checklist and liability reasons and redundancy than anything else. Now I do realize that none of the seatbelts have this feature, so they are checking that. I get into my vehicle and strap my seatbelt on and never has anyone done a pull on it to insure that I secured it properly, yet statistically, one is more likely to be injured or die in an automobile accident than an amusement park ride accident...
  23. But you already said you will not go if KI requires face masks for guests...is that @King Ding Dong fault
  24. That is an indicator though. The surrounding states have all had somewhat similar outlines and timelines, give or take, so I think Ohio will end up with something similar. However, as pointed out previously, people are starting to recognize that just because a state opens up a sector, doesn't mean that companies in that sector will open. It also doesn't mean that customers will visit companies if they are not comfortable or unwilling to comply with whatever requirements are set forth for entry into their establishment.
  25. Really, explain away the 19 parks on this list that closed...several of which are indeed theme | amusement parks...Looks like a lot shut down in Korea to me... https://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/AKR/FU_EN_15.jsp?cid=2648107
