MLB is pushing back the start of its season to mid-May at the earliest, following the Center for Disease Control's guidelines that no gatherings of 50 people or more should occur for the next eight weeks. Opening Day was originally set for Thursday, March 26. -

This is an interesting thread and for the most part the members of this forum should be commended for the overall civil nature of their posts. I know there are a few exceptions and some posts have been removed, but overall it has been an informative and factual based thread. It is also an interesting thread where one can start to figure out the age range of posters. It is fairly easy to identify those that were not around (i.e. not born yet) for 9/11 or the LA Riots of 1992 or the Cincinnati Riots of 2001. Because of this, many of the youngin’s posts haven’t aged well in this thread…but for the most part people have been civil and lightly educated them instead of bashing them. Good job to those doing it right! Not that this current situation compares to any of those situations as this is something unprecedented that really nobody has experienced to this level, but those of us around to live through them probably have a better handle of understanding and accepting the ever changing restrictive measures being put in place. In fact, I told my family on Saturday that we should visit the local café that is always empty on Sunday because I believed that may be our last time being able to eat out for awhile and let’s support the local. Turns out as we were in the car on the ride home listening to the press conference (yes I listen or watch everyone of them to remain educated and informed of the current situation), the Ohio Governor had declared all restaurants and bars would be closing at 9pm that night and only carry-out and delivery would continue. I am pleasantly surprised that this thread hadn’t completely derailed with inappropriate politics and comments to the point it was shut down. Let’s hope in the weeks to come that this site can remain civil and friendly and be a useful source for information! -

The White House's coronavirus task force was set to give an update this morning at 10:30 a.m. ET, but a little over an hour before its scheduled start they announced it would instead take place at 3:30 p.m. ET. Usually drastic measures come with such a delay...would not surprise me to hear a national lockdown at this press conference today... In fact a member of this forum that is a cook at a restaurant was told last night he would be working this week as they would continue carry-out and drive thru just posted in another thread elsewhere that he was just called and told not to come in this week and possibly beyond... -

So someone now unemployed as a result of this wouldn't appreciate a gift card to a restaurant so they can use delivery or drive thru and get a warm meal today or tomorrow and not have to worry about how to pay for it? Or you buy a gift card for yourself to use later this week to get food? I'm not saying buy a $500 gift card to Furniture Fair, but a $10-$25 gift card to someplace you frequent and could use could make a difference... -

Why I said "so they stick around"... If you can't afford a $25 gift card to your favorite place, then don't be on this forum complaining when it closes... All I am saying is we each need to do our part to get thru this...am I upset a families worth or season passes and meal and drink plans were bought last year....a little, but I have faith they will do the right thing and if they refunded all that money they would probably have to declare bankruptcy... The buy a gift card idea came from the government recommendation, hopefully you take some of their other recommendations a little more seriously.... -

This will change our "normal". I see this having a major impact (at least initially) on all venues that offer a "buy a pass this year for next year at reduced rates". Many people now have hundreds or thousands of dollars invested in CF and the likelihood of a shortened season is a very real possibility. Everyone's idea of how much shorter and it isn't worth it to them personally is relative, but I suspect if they don't open until July that many will wish they had their money back and skipped a year. I wonder how many on the payment plan have or will stop payments.... If it goes too long, CF may decide it is better to indeed skip a year and simply honor all the passes next year... Many people think KI will offer great incentives to entice people back. They may, but they may not. This isn't the Chipotle food poisoning scare or the Jack in the Box incident that only impacted one company and they were forced to offer incentives to entice people back - this impacts every company and industry. People are going to get stir crazy with cabin fever and will flock to places once they are open. I suspect we will not see CF offer things until after the first or second week - if they are at capacity every day, then no need to offer incentives... This has caused tens of thousands of people to lose their jobs, some may recover when this gets under control, but many are lost forever. Companies will go out of business. New jobs will be created because of this. How long does this change people's eating out habits? We all need to do our part to help the country and economy recover. Follow hygiene best practices. Avoid crowded areas. Continue to use delivery service and carry out. Buy gift cards to get money in employers hands so that they can stick around. Try not to get to greedy and demand all your money back from CF for passes bought, or other places for that matter. In some shape or form, you will get your value - maybe it is next year. The list goes on...but we will get through it... -

How would they staff it daily in August unless school is pushed back, but if school is pushed back because of the virus then KI probably wouldn't be open anyway....too many daily staffers are students... However, should this be over sooner than later, I could see the tourism industry push the elected officials to delay schools until after labor day as an effort to encourage vacations... -

At the current rate of progression I would be shocked if they open before Memorial Day.....and if the park is pushing towards August then not opening at all... Actually it is to spread it out over a longer period so that the health care system isn't crippled beyond capacity... -

At the national press conference today, the U.S. government’s top infectious disease expert says he’d like to see aggressive measures such as a 14-day national shutdown that would require Americans to hunker down more to help slow spread of the coronavirus. If this spread continues to exceed the models, you will be correct ... -

And just like that, we see the first curfew in this country as a response to this situation.... Residents in Hoboken, New Jersey, must stay in their homes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday, a daily curfew that’s among the first and most far-reaching such measures taken in the U.S. The response to this situation is like the game "follow the leader", once one community or business does something, the others start to follow and copy.... -

I don't know how widespread it is, but there are many college age students in my subdivision that this has happened to. They are trying to get waivers to finish the term early because even though their universities have gone to on-line classes, they cannot do that while at boot camp. Watched a mom crying last night as her little Johnny got picked up to head to boot camp a year early... -

Many college students that were enlisted to start boot camp next year just had it moved up to between Monday and end of month....wonder why... You were not around for the Cincinnati riots of 2001 when curfews and stuff where implemented. It can certainly be done easier than you think...will there be pocket areas of less populated that can get away with more, absolutely, but in highly populated areas they simply close everything and bring in the Guard... -

We are in unprecedented times that nobody has experienced and thus no real history to go by. What is happening now could not have been predicted 3-4 months ago, or even on Monday this week... I think most are optimistic that things will return to "normal" soon, but it is simply a guess and "normal soon" is a relative time frame. I think there would be a stronger likelihood that schools in Ohio probably will not go back to in-person learning this school year if the current projections and peak times hold true or go longer. Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Japan were going to re-open this weekend, but have since pushed it back through "early April or beyond", but Shanghai Disney Resort partially reopened Monday. Their closure length will be the closest we have to a "history" to go by. It is way too early to speculate what may happen here. If the closure is long enough (say until mid-July), the parks may decide to scrap the year as the opened weeks wouldn't justify the expense. The Cedar Fair parks with Haunt and Winterfest may decide to re-open because of the extended schedules, but we are just guessing at this point. What they do about refunds, etc. would be determined at that time... -
