The sad thing is more times than not, River City played in Action Zone and had more entertainment associates watching than guests. Coney Mall stage wasn't that much better. With guest numbers like that, it is hard to justify continuing. But at the same time, the shows were not really advertised either, so it was a hit or miss thing.

True, but many seem to think that Fast Lane money goes directly to improvements to the park and we simply don't know what that breakdown is. Is it 10%, 50%, or 0%, we really don't know. Maybe it all goes to salary and bonuses of the big wigs...we really don't know. Saying we have Banshee or Mystic or Orion or whatever simply because of Fast Lane may not be correct - what about all the previous rides installed before Fast Lane came into existence - was this just a farm field with tractors and horses to ride until Fast Lane came into existence? It may have been a farm prior to Kings Island, but since it's inception, it has periodically made improvements to keep it relevant and encouraging folks to visit - they had the award winning Planet Snoopy, The Beast, Vortex, Drop Tower, etc. etc. all built before Fast Lane. Heck, Diamondback, adjusted for inflation, is comparable to Banshee spending and Fast Lane did not exist at that time. We will never know for sure what the money goes to - one can assume it is improvements, but it could be bonuses to execs, paying down debt, purchasing those water parks in Texas, purchasing Sawmill Resort, building the dorms, minimum wage adjustments, additional staffing, rainy day fund, or any variety of things. It could even be used to help keep daily entry and season passes at the prices they are now! Unless you have seen the accounting books to know for sure that our recent improvements would not exist without Fast Lane, it is simply speculation as to what the funds generated really go to. Parks have to make these investments periodically to keep them relevant and I think Banshee, Mystic, Orion, Adventure Port, etc. would exist with or without Fast Lane money. Going back to when Fast Lane was first introduced, for all we know the thought process might have been something like "You know, if we add this Fast Lane option, we can lower the gate price and increase attendance by bringing in an additional economic demographic that could afford lower gate prices. In turn, those that are used to paying more or have the funds can purchase the Fast Lane option if they don't want to wait in increased lines. This will increase attendance by introducing an economic class that may not have visited previously, as well as increasing profit from those purchasing Fast Lane." So now we are in a situation where they sold a record number of season passes for 2023. Group sales and daily admission guests still aren't what they used to be, so the majority of the people in the park on many days are pass holders, so they have to generate additional revenue from this group. This is the first year that all season Fast Lane didn't sell out. One can assume daily Fast Lane is probably taking a hit as well. They probably hope the single-use Fast Lane option can make up or exceed that gap. So what happens if it doesn't and the anticipated revenue from Fast Lane drops significantly. Do they cut capital improvements, raise admission costs, give away the gate, etc.?

Adventure Port Officially Opens This Weekend
disco2000 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
So what makes everything running today on a general operating day different than tomorrow lol https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/warren-county/mason/new-kings-island-themed-area-adventure-port-to-open-saturday-feature-new-rides -
MF favors speed over the hills and floater air we have on Orion AND Diamondback and I think that is why it is a fan favorite. Orion as a speed demon without all the high hills would have been a better option to separate itself from Diamondback and not be referred to as DB2.0 lol

Unlike the original invite email for Prestige that people shared on social media, the survey link can only be used once.

Nah, the actual ride at start and stop sounds like a goose getting ticked off LOL

There is quite a difference between the golf course across the street and Muirfield where the tour is currently lol. Even though both courses are designed by Jack, he would just as soon not have his name attached to that course and has made efforts to distance himself from it as it was the first or one of the first courses he "designed" and certainly not in the same league as his other designs. The land is just too flat to create a championship quality course without great expense for a golf course Mason loses money on every year to begin with. It is just too easy of a course for every tour level, which is why the PGA, LPGA, and senior tour all had stints there and left. Losing the ATP could be the final straw to see that whole tract turned into condos and homes. It has already happened to 27 holes there.

What is the most popular ride at Kings Island?
disco2000 replied to italianchef's topic in Kings Island
It is not a surprising that folks rank Diamondback over Orion. Almost everyone I know says that. In addition many think Orion is 4th just at KI behind The Beast, Diamondback, and Mystic Timbers. Further, Orion is consistently ranked the bottom North America giga by many polls... Heck, even the Golden Ticket awards ranks Diamondback at #17 ahead of Orion at #20 (last place giga). -
Getting rid of FastLane
-
I don't even know if I would call it a weekday park - certainly better than a Saturday but weekdays are way more crowded and less staffed than prior to 2019 weekdays, but my weekday visit experience is enough that I doubt I will go up again this year. I know many that have wrote that park off until they see improvements to the experience. I wrote off Halloweekends after the 2019 fiasco and haven't seen any social media posts indicating it has improved any. I am about ready to right off any visits there. Just not a fun experience at the moment. And a single Fast Lane use if implemented at Cedar Point will be a nightmare. FastLane can already exceed 45 minutes there.

While I understand your point, if that were the case, they would have simply increased the rates of daily admission and season passes as a way to limit attendance. The costs of these items have not kept up with inflation, increased staffing pay, etc. and is priced well under the value it offers. Increase the price of everything and give everyone the same experience. But oh wait before Covid thru a curve to everything, Disney was employing that concept as a way to control attendance and attendance records kept getting broken. They attributed the increased attendance even though higher prices had a psychological effect of being more exclusive and more for the rich, so it encouraged even more people to go so they could brag that they could still afford Disney to the friends and neighbors... Now as it relates to CF, they have proven (short term obviously post-covid) that they can have lower attendance like was seen in 2022, yet have record profits. While 2022 attendance was down 4% compared to pre-covid 2019, full year 2022 revenue was up 23% compared to pre-covid 2019, thus proving you don't have to give away the gate and have increased attendance every year and can still produce record revenue... As much as many hate to see it, I suspect until the tide turns, we will continue to see upcharge premium offerings as it is a way to increase per-cap spending for those already in the park or as in incentive to purchase premium offerings. The problem they have to solve is where is that balance. If for every guest that says "screw this" and doesn't come back because they had a horrible experience standing in the regular line and saw the same person in FastLane lap them 25 times before they rode it, there are 4 guests that buy the upcharge, things won't change. It will change when "regular" and "premium" guests attendance and spending go down. I really thought we would see that at Cedar Point, but people keep going. Last year more than ever they seemed to get slammed on social media for long wait times (regular and Fast Lane), many rides not running, few food places open, etc. and yet people still go up there like it is a premium experience. Even having Fast Lane up there is a not enjoyable experience at the moment.
