Actually, I know this one to be true. You were the center, Dane was the goalie, and Helbig was the play by play guy. It's also a fact you guys won the championship that year! Go Ducks! Just Kidding! A rumor I heard years ago, probably a couple of years after The Bat was shut down for good, was that a little girl fell out of The Bat on the lift hill. And that was why it closed for good.

An impossible dream? Not to this man
KIBeast replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Sounds like a pipe dream to me. It also sounds like the man needs to grow up a little. I realize you have to have imagination to dream, but his imgination sounds like it ran off with his sanity. I mean, when you're a kid, who wouldn't want to design your own amusement or theme park? -
Well, until I came here, I had never heard of KI being referred to as a theme park until Paramount took over. Yes, KI had more theming than say CP, but CP still has themed sections. Although, the theming has been kinda skewed the last 5-10 years or so, kinda like the way Paramount screwed up the overall theming of KI. So, maybe they will bring back the original feel of KI...maybe not. Anything, to me, is better than what Paramount did to trash some of the themed areas within the park. Yeah, Action Zone is not a bad theme, other than it's solid concrete. Otherwise, Paramount kinda destroyed the general theming of KI. Not to mention, I had heard at one point that Paramount wanted to remove the floral clock.

^That's because there have not been any suspended coasters with any inversions. I've seen a vid where Arrow had a model of a suspended with a corkscrew, but that's all. In that pic, that would have been the only banked track.

Ummm, no. No wasp problem that I know of at Camden. Just on SBNO rides apparently.

#4 It does make a difference. You can't just add stuff and say, well, we'll get the money from somewhere. #5 See #4 #7 Maybe the brakes have to be applied that hard in order for The Beast not to tear itself up. Are you absolutely positive? When and how did you inspect The Beast's brakes to even come up with that solution?
-
^That was really just sarcasm. I am very interested in going to SFOG and SFGADV in the very near future, just not this year. I am so excited about going to Dorney and possibly Kings Dominion. I'll get my money's worth out of my CF pass fo sho. I'll of course be hitting up KI 3-4 times and CP at least once.

Beast Rider, I know what you are getting at. Unfortunately, the skid brakes that used to be there are the exact kind that you are referring to. However, said brakes were replaced when a small collision happened in the station which is the reasoning behind the change to begin with. IMHO, The Beast needs no help.

Kings Island: We're better than Six Flags!

^I second that. In fact, I wish we had a smilie that bowed down like I've seen over at Terrel Owens' web site. Tggr is a great contributor. Ryan does have the right to question any poster on this board. House, you need to prescribe yourself a Xanax or something like it. Not that I am pro using drugs, unless prescribed.

Who's to say that KI is not a vacation destination? To me it is. I live in South Bend, IN. It isn't a drive to make all the time. I took my family of 6 on vacation to KI to give them the enjoyment of my youth. I wanted to give them a part of what I enjoyed. KI was always an awesome vacation spot to me. I spent over $1500 to do this as I live on a limited income. Yes, my family enjoyed it, and want to go again. I just wanted to point out that back in the day KI was a much more awesome amusement park than it is today. I would have to say that K.I. is a vacation destination. For example, when I lived in Florida, Disney, Sea World, Universal, Busch Gardens, were the local norms. Everyone had been there, or had year passes to go there. However, people were always interested in hearing about Kings Island, Cedar Point, etc. from up north. These were the places that Florida natives wanted to go. In fact, in June of this year, I have some friends, Travis, Jeremy, and Stephanie whom I attended classes at the University of Florida with, coming up to spend about 2 weeks with me here to visit Kings Island, Cedar Point, and The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. And let me tell you that they are very excited for the opportunity to get to experience these places that to them will be all brand new. And I don't think that they are alone. How many days did your friends spend at each park? If it's not more than 3 days, then it's really not a vacation destination. People go to the beach for a week. Most people don't go to KI or CP or most any amusement park for more than a day or two.

Well, in case you didn't know, June is not exaclty one of CP's busiest months. At the height of the season, July & August, you basically can't do everything in a day. Of course, there will be exceptions, but for the most part, I don't see everyone riding 68 rides in a single day.

You think names are generic now, you should see some of the really old names used back in the 1st golden age of coasters. I know the name roller coaster was used. And, there are still some new parks that use those names. Also, you should check out some of the awful names that parks in foreign countries use. And apparently, the general public does not even care. Here's a link to the roller coaster data base where a search of the name roller coaster came up with many past and presently operating coasters.

Not that I want to speak for AZ, but, what I think he was getting at is KI is not a resort destination like Cedar Point. You can basically do everything KI has to offer in a day. CP, it takes 2-3 days to do it all. AZ can correct me if I'm wrong. For CP, they really don't sell all that many season passes, especially compared to KI. CP relies more on those who buy resort packages and stay for 2-3 days.

Oh, I wasn't agreeing with you just to be agreeable. I read that entire post with illustration and all. I thought it made perfect sense. It also amused me to see someone getting schooled on the boards. Everyone always says back up what you say with sources and to me, that post kinda epitified exactly what was being asked for. Nice job.

Oh, I was just trying to be funny and at the same time, I was really agreeing with you. Sorry for the confusion. I was just commenting on how you were schooling someone.

"Confirmed" Information vs. Speculation
KIBeast replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
Only if the villan goes backwards There wont be no backwards racer in 2008 If there won't be no backwards racer in 2008, then you're saying there will be. It's like I overheard a parent telling their child at the airport ,"We ain't going nowhere." So, I understood, you ARE going somewhere because you can't go nowhere. -
Thanks TGGR! Great find. I rode The Bat once and I loved it. It really was much better than Top Gun, even though it went slower.

SFKK: Girl Injured in Accident
KIBeast replied to joecoaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^^I wouldn't say it is selfish, Tggr. I have a step son and I would be devestated if something like this happened to him. Although, he's not big enough to ride yet. Still, you can't help but think of what if something like this happened to someone in your family. -
For some reason the words "Flight Commander" and "Drop Zone" come to mind... PS Monroe, I'm sure nobody is going to argue that the restraints on a flying coaster are there to keep you in however you cannot make the statement that EVERY coaster that goes upside down requires restraints to keep riders in their seats. Given competent riders, there are many coasters that would be just fine without restraints holding riders in. I have a very old video of King Kobra at KD when it was new without restraints and people riding it. Before it launched the operator would explain that the centripetal force would keep the riders in. Many of Anton Schwarzkopf's coasters (that went upside down) never had restraints and operated just fine. I don't know when the last time you took a physics class was, but I've taken three in the last 2 years, not to mention statics, dynamics, strengths of materials, thermodynamics, and mechanics of materials, and had countless discussions with many people about roller coaster physics. http://rcdb.com/ig637.htm?picture=5 ^The people in this picture are not wearing restraints^ http://rcdb.com/ig637.htm?picture=2 ^Nobody is falling out in this picture^ http://rcdb.com/ig1152.htm?picture=4 It is very obvious that you have not been on that coaster, and yes I have. This is the very same coaster with the original restraints. As you can see, there is a lap bar that comes down around your waist. I am not going to explain what happens regarding gravity forces in a loop again, so go back and read my posts. Also, if you have taken that many classes and you still think you are perfectly safe without restraints. Then I would take the classes again or get my money back. This is basic physics, and with that comes many variables. For example, you mentioned Schwarzkopf, I am assuming that you are referring to his single loop coasters. Take a look at the loop, it is not as tear drop looking as most loops. This gives you a more constant g-force all the way through the loop. Any coaster that you might have a video of where the coaster does not have restraints, that video was taken shortly before they added restraints. That the ride currently has restraints after 4 relocations is of little consequence. The ride ran for many years without restraints whether you like it or not, and the video was taken several years after the ride was installed at KD CLEARLY you need to take some very basic physics to understand the idea of centripetal force. How else do you explain when a hotwheel's car makes it through a loop on a plastic track. Its the same as how a passenger stays in a Schwarzkopf coster through a loop. Here maybe this will help you understand: Notice the beginning in bold and underlined!!! Look simple physics will tell you that if the train is going fast enough that the road wheels are in contact with the track, then the riders who are subjected to the same forces of the train, will remain in contact with their seats. If a coaster like a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop is designed such that the road wheels stay in contact during the loop, which they do, the riders will not fall out. That is not to say that on Vortex during the corkscrews the road wheels are always in contact, that would be a case where restraints are necessary. You obviously do not know, because SIMPLY PUT, if the centripetal force (or acceleration force) throughout the loop is greater than the force of gravity gravity, you will not fall out. END OF STORY, whether the loop is a eliptical or circular. Also do not tell me to take my classes again or get my money back, thats just plain immature. Thank you class. PS this information is CONFIRMED. My source is the Laws of Physics, Isaac Newton, and How-Stuff-Works.com As David Lee Roth might say, CLASS DISMISSED! (For you older folk) Looks like a pretty solid arguement.

Worlds fastest coaster to open in 2009
KIBeast replied to Captain Nemo's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It's cool that it will be the world's fastest coaster, but, I think it would be really boring considering that there's nothing else to the ride. -
Looks like the new trains have arrived at SFMM. The pics are kinda small, so hopefully we'll see some better pics in the near future.
