I mentioned that a couple pages ago. I spoke with Don about it last week and he said to contact Park Operations IIRC.

I've added a bit of clarification on why the elevator stopped. One of the counterweight's cables became disengaged from the pulley due to the accident (as I already mentioned). This triggered the elevator's brakes.

I appreciate all these comments! I’m glad so many people are finding this interesting.

I got that from the investigation report. None of the friends that I spoke with were in his car.

My largest blog post yet. Utilizing newspaper articles, investigative documents, and my own interviews, this is the most comprehensive and most accurate account ever put online of the John Harter accident. Most of the stuff I put here has never been published online before...or published at all, for that matter. I hope you folks find it interesting. https://kingsislandghost.blogspot.com/2022/01/the-truth-behind-tower-johnny.html

Mystic Timbers opened for the 45th. For the 15th, Kings Island opened Skylab and a renovated Coney Mall, for the 20th they opened Phantom Theater, etc.
-
Something that really annoys me...the photo of the Intamin Flight Trainer at Coney BBQ isn’t of Flight Commander. It’s of Skyhawk at CGA. That specific photo was pretty widely distributed in newspapers after Flight Commander’s opening and the accident...but does Kings Island really not have any photos of Flight Commander?

WCPO: Kings Island rides we wish had never gone away
KIghostguy replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
The King Cobra was entirely built, installed, tested, etc. at TOGO HQ in Japan. The ride was disassembled and shipped over to the US for reconstruction and installation at Kings Island. -
He did say why it won’t be open, though: it’s not being used.
-
He did. "We've had other plans in the near-future that doesn't include that area."

Surprised no one has mentioned the new Ohio Room at Emporium. IMO an improvement from when the room was Peanuts-filled.
-
Mike Koontz said in a KI Central video that there are no plans in the works that involve the former Dinosaurs Alive! area.
-
The cemetery is maintained by the Deerfield Township Trustees. I would guess they own it as well.
-
The front plaza is a smoking area, I believe, and the paths still wind back through the woods, but without dinosaurs. The walkway under Racer is fenced off.
-
I’m not sure who decides what the theming is, but I think usually it’s done by an outside company. Mystic Timbers was done by Holovis and Daniels Wood Land, for example.
-
I was unaware of that. Thank you for the correction. I do think it’s kind of odd to see The Bat and other Coney Mall rides mixed in with the original Coney Island rides.

Person Dies at Schlitterbahn Kansas City
KIghostguy replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The indictment can be read here. It’s worth reading, especially before commenting on this. Schlitterbahn might be highly regarded, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t negligently design and operate Verruckt. -
Lion Country Safari Mauling: An Untold Story
KIghostguy replied to KIghostguy's topic in Kings Island
From Lebanon’s Warren County Reporter 8-3-1976. Nothing new to add to my article, but I know how you folks find these old newspaper reports interesting (as do I). -
While the official announcement wasn’t until October 1980, the public had known since May of that year that it would be a suspended coaster. Interestingly, the original plan for The Bat called for two inversions.

I don’t know about Holiday World, but Mystic is my favorite woodie. It is better than the others at Kings Island and better than the two woodies at Knoebels IMO.
