January 17, 201610 yr https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1103179403027127&id=247739365237806&substory_index=0 I wonder if they're going to put a big Coke Marketplace like the one they put by Coney Mall last year? ^I cropped the pertinent part of the still from KI's webcam.
January 17, 201610 yr Also looks like the ramp from WWC is gone too. Perhaps there are plans for a direct route across the railroad tracks.... Or better yet... Signs of the beginning of a 2017 attraction!
January 17, 201610 yr They must have felt that the discussions on here have gotten too boring recently. Nothing like some demolition to get the speculation rolling!
January 17, 201610 yr Author The reason I'm thinking Coke Marketplace is that's what it was when we "caught" them doing unexpected demolition/construction last off-season. If it was anything more interesting I'd think they'd say something, even if it was just vague hints.
January 17, 201610 yr As long as it does not mean the end of the train, I am ok with whatever they are doing.
January 17, 201610 yr Author Agreed about the train! It may be wishful thinking on my part, too. RHoFG is one of the few places in the park where you can't get the souvenir cups filled. On the rare occasions I had my cup with me, I wanted to fill it at a Freestyle machine, and the train station location was typically closed. A Marketplace would probably (hopefully?) be more likely to actually be open, so having a Freestyle drink in Reds wouldn't be as likely to require a trek halfway across the park.
January 17, 201610 yr What?! No! That's the only place in the park that I know of that sold elephant ears! Tell me the elephant ears didn't get the axe, too!
January 17, 201610 yr That will likely depend on how popular elephant ears were among money-spending park guests. It will be interesting to see what they put in that space.
January 17, 201610 yr They were very popular with me, a money-spending park guest! Just kidding--I know what you meant. It's just a bummer to think about them potentially leaving. They were so stinking good, much like the fries that were in Hank's Burrito Shack before Hank's Burrito Shack was Hank's Burrito Shack. I did notice that that place would shut down when the park was short-staffed. That probably says something about its popularity. The covered patio area behind it isn't the prettiest place in the park, so I suppose I'm okay with this happening if it means that the appearance of that area improves. I'm a little sad that the park is losing a unique building that (I'm pretty sure) was there in 1972, but mainly I just don't want to lose the elephant ears.
January 17, 201610 yr Wow pretty interesting! I just saw that too. I checked the webcams last night (I had a feeling) just incase they might be doing anything, and it was too dark to see. Here it is today and yup more work being done! Hope they announce soon what's going on.
January 17, 201610 yr Wha...? No, but seriously, It would make sense to relocate a Coke Freestyle marketplace there as the train station depot is frequently closed. But if they are demo'ing that because it's sometimes closed, I wonder if/why they wouldn't demo Paradise Island, which is almost never open? Hmmm... the plot thickens...
January 17, 201610 yr Maybe it could be a FunPix location where people can buy prints, get their cards, and create accounts.
January 17, 201610 yr Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they just build/remodel a new funnel cake/elephant ear location on Main Street? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
January 17, 201610 yr There were no elephant ears on International Street in 2015. Main Street is at Brand D. Dream Street is at NJFTP.
January 17, 201610 yr Now that I've looked at a map of that area- if they did a bit of re-routing of WWC's queue, that'd be an excellent area to expand Rivertown.
January 17, 201610 yr Thanks Terp. I have WDW on my mind. I meant International Street in the shadow of the ET Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
January 17, 201610 yr Must be for that big 2017 project. Lol Sent from a signal coming out of the Vega system.
January 17, 201610 yr Although I still think that the old Flight Commander pad would be a more fitting spot, that Rivertown location could work well for a Gerstlauer Sky Roller, similar to what Canada's Wonderland is recieving this season. I wouldn't doubt that the park could recieve a flat in 2017 anyway, not necessarily in that location though, considering what some of the other CF parks are getting for '16. ......And then again, of course, this could be nothing but a little "clean-up" and restoration for the area / maybe another new building......
January 17, 201610 yr Sorry for the double post! Was browsing over the park on Google Earth and noticed that the pond near White Water Canyon was drained back in October?.... Correct me if I'm wrong, but the pond pictured is not connected to White Water Canyon, and if it's the one I'm thinking of, it's never been "drained" either....? Here it is pictured on Google Earth, captured in October: (Photo captured from Google Earth and courtesy goes out to Google Earth for image-capture) You guys' thoughts on this? Am I thinking of the wrong pond? Connected to the demolition of the elephant ear building? Something to think about.....
January 18, 201610 yr Author I believe I heard on the train at one point that the pond is the reservoir they use for the water of WWC. It was drained around the same time as the rest of WWC after it closed for the season, at least.
January 18, 201610 yr Thanks for the clarification! I've never really looked much into it and had never noticed that.
January 18, 201610 yr If I'm not mistaken, that pond is drained every fall after WWC closes. Just so you know!
January 18, 201610 yr Maybe they are going to finally build that woodie Jeff Gramke was talking about. LOL
January 18, 201610 yr Won't someone think of the funnel cakes? Man, can't wait for the Trumbull County Fair. Head up, get some fries, bring back a funnel cake. Ahh.
January 18, 201610 yr I'm a little sad that the park is losing a unique building that (I'm pretty sure) was there in 1972, but mainly I just don't want to lose the elephant ears. Yep, present since park opening. Originally home to "Whistle Stop" before becoming "Canyon Canteen" in the 1980s. Also a Skyline Chili at one point. I'm curious about what will happen in this space, but I'm even more curious about the White Water Canyon pathway. If the bridge is gone I wonder if the park will build a new one or instead have a new railroad crossing, similar to Cedar Point's railroad.
January 18, 201610 yr I'm curious about what will happen in this space, but I'm even more curious about the White Water Canyon pathway. If the bridge is gone I wonder if the park will build a new one or instead have a new railroad crossing, similar to Cedar Point's railroad. I'd very much like to have a grade crossing instead of the bridge. It would be much easier than climbing all those steps only to go right back down, and on the exit, it would be much easier for wheelchair users to not have to deal with that massive ramp.
January 18, 201610 yr ^I agree, but it would also require the park to staff a crossing guard there. And even at minimum wage, that cost of labor quickly adds up.
January 18, 201610 yr If it's anything to improve food service I am all for it, the lines there were most of the time extremely long last season. I doubt a Coke Freestyle shop would be put there seeing as there is one right next to it at the train station that they never keep that one open. I have a feeling it could be something along the lines of FunPix as someone mentioned earlier, but hopefully with that loss there will be a gain of more up time at the Coke Freestyle shop at the train station. I doubt a FunPix kiosk is going to require as much labor as an area that served as much food and drinks as they did.
