Tr0y Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Any word on what is to become of Hurler for the 2017 season? Quote
Tien Shinhan Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Last I hear all they had done was remove the metal strips on the wood track Quote
SonODiamondback Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I thought they were going to get RMC or GCI but it looks to be just a retracking. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Quote
TTD-120-420 Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I saw your avatar and got excited that Young Stud was back. 7 Quote
Logan Goddard Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 ^^ I think I heard somewhere that the renovations were being done in house. Other then that the IOE thing was the only thing I have seen that could be connected to Hurler. Quote
IndyGuy4KI Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Seeing it this past Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, it does not look like anything has been done to it so far this season. 4 Quote
NoChickens Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016  No matter what they do, they can't hurt it, IMO.  Other than Invertigo, it's the only other coaster I got off of, and vowed to never ride it again. I did though, ride Invertigo again, and now  appears I will have to give this one another chance at some point.   For the record, Invertigo still has the standing of "I will not ride it again".  Never say never, but it would take some doing. 8 Quote
silver2005 Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 The only real way I think it would be improved is if they got rid of all those drawn out hills and made a figure 8 course or something.  The whole ride from after the first low high speed curve until the brake run delivers a whole lotta nothing. 2 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 When it was new, it had phenomenal airtime in every seat. 1 Quote
IBEW_Sparky Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 I have only ridden it once, in 2011, and I honestly cant remember the ride. Â What happened to the airtime, did it get Cedar Fair-ed to Death? Â Now, so as not to be seen by the CF apologists as being unfair, lets hope that whoever decided to do the repairs in-house (if that happens to be the case) learned something from Paramount in what NOT to do when doing one's own construction work on a roller coaster. Â Edited for side note: Â Seeing the ride from Ricochet and Grizzly, I wish I COULD remember the ride experience, as the high speed, high banked corners looked to be a lot of fun. 2 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Within three years, it was gone. Cedar Fair had nothing to do with whatever happened. 6 Quote
RollerNut Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Within three years, it was gone. Cedar Fair had nothing to do with whatever happened.Could it be that once the wood aged that the wood formed tiny dips between the dips resulting in a rougher ride and also slowing the trains?I ain't coaster engineer but I do know that Hurler didn't have the trim brake added until after 2006. I worked the Carowinds Hurler in 2006, turn three(first banked turn) was retracked twice that year, once before the season started and once during the summer. It made the ride no better, when GCI came in and rebuilt the entire turn the structure and made some changes it really improved the ride. I would love to see GCI do the rest of the coaster but it hasn't happened since 2013 or 2014. Maybe Carowinds have up on Thunder Road and Hurler? 5 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Not when it opened. But, within three years... 1 Quote
thekidd33 Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Florida weather, PTC trains, lack of proper maintenance (depending on who you ask), etc. 6 Quote
BeeastFarmer Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I rode the Carowinds version this spring and it is a never again for me unless it has major work. Worst coaster I have ever been on, even counting Firehawk at Kings Island. 1 Quote
freaks76 Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 The one at Carowinds was also down when I went in April, so in a three day trip, there was no Hurling for me. I would have liked to take a lap on one of them. Firehawk is WAY better than Invertigo. 3 Quote
VekomaRulz Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Even with the Millennium Flyer trains I thought Gwazi was horrible. The only part of the ride that was tolerable was the pre lift section and the lift hill. I can usually tolerate rough coasters but Gwazi was so bad I had a headache an hour after riding. Easily the worst wooden coaster I have ridden. 2 Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Gwazi was an exceptionally rough example of how well the GCIs with PTCs run. Wildcat at Hersheypark isn't much better, but it is a little better (and it now runs Millennium Flyers, too.) I think Roar at SFA ran the best out of the three PTC GCIs I've ridden. Ironically, it still has PTCs. There must be something about switching from one to the other... 1 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Yes. There is something. $$$ Trains are far, far more expensive than most would think. 5 Quote
IBEW_Sparky Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 I know they are big time money, but are e talking Lamborghini Gallardo money, or Bugatti Veyron money?? 1 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Closer to the Bugatti than the Lamborghini... And that's for PTC's, each train. I have no idea what GCII sells their trains for these days. 5 Quote
Kenban Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 To give you an idea for the cost here is a used Timberliner train. Â This used train is $550,000 and Hurler runs two trains. Â My guess is that price is around half what it would cost new. Â Hmmm built in 2010, I am guessing this is from Holiday World. 4 Quote
stashua123 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 The rollercoaster in the background certainly looks a lot like Voyage.... Quote
NoChickens Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Â The Ad does say "trains" not "train", so maybe that $550,00 is for 2? Â 4 Quote
bengals fan Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 if you look at the pictures you will notice the one with water dummies has dark blue restraints the other has lite blue restraints. 2 Quote
RollerNut Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 https://instagram.com/p/BI-38GyAz6Z/ Snoopy is snooping around Hurler and KD uses the #2017. 1 Quote
Oldschool75 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Yeah that would be a no. How epic of a PR fail by that park. All they are getting is a Planet Snoopy upgrade and Fun Pix, free Wifi, and a new Pre-K pass level. I'm. not understanding all the hype around Hurler by their PR dept. judging my the FB live stream, BG just got a bunch of new season pass holders for 2017. Wow is all I have to say.
