2018 Construction in Coney Mall

Last night, the fence had a Christmas-themed tarp wrapped around it. The ground was all dug up and a bunch of wooden fence posts(?) were lying on the ground.

Here’s what it looked like. @KIghostguy, the posts may be for the studs holding up the form if they do a slab based foundation for the restaurant.

In my non-professional opinion, these look very much like foundations for a building.

Those indeed are footings/foundatings for a building of some kind.  Based on the fact that the rebar is extending up from the footing, it would likely be a CMU (concrete masonry unit, more commonly known as concrete block) wall in that area of the new building.

My wife and I were in guest services on Friday as my wife was filling out positive comment cards.  We asked the girl working  about a 2018 announcement and she said the announcement would be made on December 30 so we should  get confirmation soon.

you can find some mention of what I assume to be permit fees for a few items under the memos tab.  The ones in particular that seems interesting are "Harbor House Foundation", "Harbor House Shell", "Sprinklers-Harbor House".  Could this be a similar restaurant to the Harbor House at Carowinds?  The only thing that is a bit puzzling is that the name seems better fit for an installation in the water park.  Regardless, it sounds like a place that would be serving up seafood.  Thoughts?

I just checked the property search site and when you click on memos, then general memos, "Coney Island BBQ" now shows up at the bottom.  It will be interesting to see if we are getting anything else.  Hopefully we get a flat or two at the other end of Coney Mall down by where Dinos entrance was.

I didn't make it over until after dark so I didn't bother to take pictures, but from what I could peek through the fence it appears they have started pouring floors.

It looks as if “Harbor House” was possibly referring to the smokehouse in SC.

Nothing's been announced yet. There's plenty of speculation in this thread; the leading guess right now is a new restaurant (perhaps a smokehouse to go with the one in Soak City).

The lead speculation is that a new food facility will be placed. It's also been said there might be an announcement on December 30th. Other theories that have been put forth are for a return of Lex Taxis, a Skywarp or another flat ride.

Melt also replaced something and it wasn't totally new construction.

No pics, but the scaffolding was covered in thick translucent plastic sheeting when we looked last night. For warmth for workers? To keep any upcoming snow off? Not sure.

Is Tom & Chee still at KI?  Perhaps a more permanent structure for a Tom & Chee at KI.

Well Tom+Chee is still on the Ki website so I would assume not Melt. Unless they remove Tom+Chee and we don't know yet. I wish this would happen. MELT is wayyyyy better then T+C.

I don’t think it would be a Tom+Chee or a similar kind of place since the Warren County Property listings are now showing “Coney Island BBQ” at Kings Island.
