Tony totally does answer questions on his account.

Yeah but would he answer passive aggressive questions directed to him because he is not Don Helbig? Or do you think after the second or third question you would end up being blocked as well? By the way, nice burner troll account. You literally didn’t start making post here with this account until Don was gone. Furthermore this forum has more pressing issues at hand like, where is the other 1000ft of track for Orion? :P

Actually, Ive been here before and am good friends with @malemand @IndyGuy4KI. Not a burner account nor a troll.

And as far as Tony goes, yes he has.

Well with the amount of complaining about Kings Island PR. I hope you or your FB group wasn’t the reason why Don is no longer with Kings Island.

Those people who are the most vocal about the park’s communication are those who have a communication background of some kind whether they’ve studied it in college, worked in a communication related field, or are in charge of large groups. People aren’t complaining just for the sake of complaining or because they have a personal vendetta against the park’s communication department….. they saw how the PR was run in the past and how that quality has gone down recently.

Even people who aren’t super familiar with the PR aspect are noticing the questionable communication practices as of late.

And it’s not Don either, if that’s what he’s trying to imply. I’m not going to “out” who it is, but it’s pretty obvious given his personal anecdotes and tweets he’s posted.:D

I just want our forum to have a good relationship with the park. I understand, to a lot of people, there are big shoes to fill with Don no longer in the picture, and that it is easy to question if Chad can even fill those shoes. But honestly Chad shouldn’t worry (and we shouldn’t expect him to) about filling those shoes when he has his own shoes to fill.

Who says he’s filling Don’s shoes? Don was Area Manager, Digital Marketing. Chad is Director of Communications. When people point out the lack of professionalism from Chad, it’s not necessarily saying, “Don did it better.” It’s saying “this is the experience I’ve had with that guy.” You can be sad that Don is gone and you can also be frustrated with Chad’s lack of professionalism. Two things can be true at once without one being associated with the other.

I do appreciate that you want to maintain this forum’s relationship with the park, but given that Brad clearly doesn’t even get press releases from the park anymore, does it even matter?

I thought Chad was currently doing both for the time being now with Don out of the picture. It’s unfortunate that Brad no longer gets press releases from the park anymore considering how much content he brings to us that most people don’t get around to posting. I will say it probably doesn’t help bashing Chad on here tho, with some users going to the extent of giving him vulgar names.

I’m sure he’s covering both. But I’m saying that no one is comparing his PR techniques to Don’s. People saying that they saw the media walking around without a cohort, or that he can’t get a story out of Cincinnati, or that he has dismantled the park’s relationship with the enthusiast groups has nothing to do with Don.

But since he’s a social media newbie I’ll throw him a bone on this one:

IMG_0320.jpeg

Since July 22 is in the past, it’s generally accepted that in situations like this it would be phrased as, “Daily through August 6, 2023,” so that the messaging doesn’t come off as dated. Also, calling out July 24 - 30 on the post but 22 - Aug 6 is both confusing and sloppy. None of this is simply my opinion. This is a widely-accepted style guide in professional social media. So @gforce1994 please ask him to fix this next time he feeds you some lines to post here.

When Don got promoted to Digital Marketing, he kept control of the Kings Island PR account. Therefor he was responsible for the digital and social media channels. So when everyone who was bashing PR. Ultimately, ended up just bashing Don. What transpired as the reason for why he is now no longer with the park is anyone’s guess, but the silence is deafening.

per Kings Island:

Don Helbig serves as Kings Island's area manager, digital marketing. An experienced storyteller, Don manages the content for the park's website, mobile app, blog, and social media.

Interesting that the park would choose the 2021 year to show on this video, which highlights Kings Island Camp Cedar, which doesn't exist anymore.

Well, keep in mind. The info is literally in stone. Second, it was a part of the park in 2021, so in essence KI history. That really fits into the purpose for the video.

Let’s find all of the Cinema Sins in someone’s self-indulging descriptions:

IMG_7182.jpeg

Would Sally Derrick (Newport Aquarium) have written this? What about Erik Mueller from Watson’s?

A track record of solid decision making?

Like ill-advised tweets about being fully staffed or Panda Express in Germany?

Commitment to customer experience?

Like the many, many people who he has blocked on social media for just asking questions or harassed asking for personal phone numbers?

Public Relations and Sales Leadership?

Like when Adventure Port didn’t make it out of the local markets? Like how there were soft-ball opportunities for live hits, look-lives or stories including most recently, but not limited to, National Carousel Day?

Exceptional work ethic?

Like when he can’t be reached for comment, or relies on parroting a corporate blurb if there’s any kind of negative news? Or when he’s called out repeatedly for never being actually in the park by several people, and then starts to take selfies with the few park goers that aren’t sickened by him by now in order to prove that he spent 15 minutes “on stage?”

This is your spokesperson, folks.

It just seems odd to me that they would highlight THAT year vs something sucessful like Mystic Timbers or Orion.

I'd grab a shovel, but I've been advised not to go in the shed...

It's a constructive hole, though. Gotta dig it out in area 72 to prepare for a space launch to get us to the Orion constellation before the Choads/meteors destroy our habitat.

This thread is like a car wreck that I just can’t seem to help myself from looking at!
My earlier post with the man digging a hole was just my (completely neutral) observation that everyone just seems to be digging a hole deeper and deeper into a subject that obviously no one can win…everyone’s minds are already made up one way or another and there doesn’t appear to be a way for anyone to sway them one way or another, yet they keep trying…that’s why I find this thread both amusing…and sad.

About the only good thing I can say about this thread is that I am glad that KICentral still exists where we could even have a conversation like this. :)

Not a media outlet in Cincinnati, Columbus, Indy, Dayton or Huntington would have passed on a story about this.

This is the only way people would know about this, unless they visited the park.

Good job.

And for those who don't know about this great organization:

Quote

It all started with Payton. In the summer of 2018, six-year-old Payton decided she wanted to have a lemonade stand. We talked about where the proceeds would go and decided that 100% of all proceeds would go towards purchasing new toys for patients at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Payton received a new toy (teddy bear) when she was a patient there at a very young age and that bear has slept in her bed every single night since. It’s a very special toy to Payton and has provided her with great comfort and security over the years. Now that she’s older, she would like to give back and provide other kids in need with their own special toy. After the success of her first stand in the summer of 2018, Payton decided she wanted to make this an annual event. A year later, at her second stand in the summer of 2019, she raised almost $7,000!! Word started to spread about this annual fundraiser and more kids wanted to get involved. In 2020 we came up with the idea of Payton’s Pals and implemented EIGHT additional stands! Stands were hosted by kids all over the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Together, with the support of the community, we raised over $35,000 that summer!

While supporting children at CCHMC has always been at the heart of Payton’s Lemonade Stand, we have realized that there are many other children who are facing hardships that could have their lives sweetened by a toy, gift, or craft. So, as we continue to grow, we will be supporting children through other organizations, in addition to CCHMC, who fall in line with the mission of our organization. With that in mind, we became an official nonprofit (501c3) in 2021, and are looking forward to expanding our reach to sweeten the lives of even more children facing hardships.

In the summer of 2021, the 4th Annual Payton’s Lemonade Stand added even more stands. With the help of over 100 kids at 30 stands across the Tri-State, we raised $60,000 to sweeten the lives of kids facing hardships!! We expanded that even further in 2022, with 50 stands, 200+ kids, and four fire departments helping raise $85,000 for kids facing hardship!

OUR FIRST STAND

Our first stand took place in July of 2018. Our goal was to raise $50 and go out and buy a few toys for children at CCHMC. Payton got to work with her dad building the stand and making signs. She set up shop in our driveway, invited all of her friends and neighbors, and made her lemonade. In just a few short hours she made $768! We took the money we raised and went to our local Target to purchase toys on CCHMC’s wish list. Shortly thereafter, we made a trip to CCHMC to drop a car full of toys off to be distributed to patients. We drove away thinking our work was done, but looking back, it was all just beginning.

YES! Great organization!

Just wish that, in a year without a lot of feel-good stuff coming from the park, there would have at least been a social post…

Exactly.  Help 'em out, encourage people to come to the park and stop by for some lemonade!

But, nope.  Crickets...

Beggars can’t be choosers, but if I ran that organization I’d be so disappointed. With any level of competence this should have been breakthrough exposure. Instead, they’ll quietly raise a few bucks.
