OFFICIAL: Carowinds to retire three rides

Recommended Posts

At least it's announced, unlike some other parks.

Maybe they did learn to acknowledge emotions of folks.  This is from the blog linked in the social post: "We know that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate your passion. These changes are an important part of our growth and underscore our commitment to elevating the park experience. We’re excited about the future, and we can’t wait to begin this journey with you at Carowinds."

It's interesting that they use the terms "multi year expansion" and "evolve."  Most of this park has been renovated since the Cedar Fair acquisition.  Anybody want to speculate on how else they are going to shake things up?

It's professionally worded but my question is, Why Couldn't they have announced this back in early October and given people a chance for last rides??? I know their maintenance budget was cut under the merger but still the fact that there was never a chance for final rides almost stings more than the actual closures. Nighthawk had it coming, as did scream weaver, however I'm surprised about the Drop Tower.

Because they don't care?

I'm sure there's a minimal level of care.  But they are making decisions from a non-emotional standpoint.

Remember, the parks are being overseen by a team led by the very person who, when they were acting GM at KI, sacrificed the original Antiques, KCKC, and Flying Eagles.  Sentimentality is not forefront on the current executive teams mind.  Cutting maintenance costs and redemption of real-estate within the parks is.

As I said in an earlier post - it is what it is.... and there's more to come...

Keep in mind we have seen this before at our own park...

Did the guests that loved Slingshot get to say goodbye?

Did the guests that loved Pipeline Paradise get to say goodbye?

Granted one was a paid attraction and not everyone did Pipeline, but a ride has the distinction of being a favorite ride for somebody.

Maybe KI once again was a test park for this new kinda rollout :P

Little did the last train on Son of Beast know they would be last riders ever.

But that one is easier to understand.

Historical perspective:

Did Bayren Curve, Flying Dutchman, Der Spinnin Keggers, Flight Commander, Cinema 180, The Bat(1.0), KCKC, Ohio Overland Livery Company, King Cobra, Screamin' Demon, Wild Animal Habitat, Bavarian Beetle, Scooby's Ghoster Coaster and Halley's Comet and The Crypt have a "proper" send off?  Or were they quietly retired with no fanfare?

I am sure all those older rides were posted to Facebook :P
