Horrible Cleanliness in the park

Recommended Posts

Today, everyone at the park threw up. So as the train arrived to the station on The Racer, the kid in the row in front of me threw up on his seat. After the gates opened, I told one of the operators (glad I did since the floors for each car). They didn't even clean it properly. They ran the hose for 30 seconds and called it a day. I was glad to be on the next train.

Then, in the UFO someone puked all over the railing and on the floors. This forum is full of people wanting the park to hire more staff in the Rides and F&B departments, but what I want is for them to hire more janitors so they could staff them at each ride. A clean park is what matters.

What I consider a "proper cleaning" is running the hose on it and then using a disinfecting spray. Closing the entire train isn't neccesary, but the surrounding rows should run through the course. Also, I understand that workers can't see everything but if a guest says something they should get some kind of reward.

It would be nice to see the park also take some more preventative measures on these hottest days of the season. The extreme heat tends to make people sick more often, especially if they have not been drinking enough water or are baking in the sun and riding a lot of coasters. Part of the cleaning process is indeed to hose the car down, although I can't remember how many cycles it takes to clean them.

Additional dedicated water stations (with cold water available), more shade (even temporary tents for shade), more fans blowing, and more trash cans would help. I'm sure the reduced number of ride operators and janitorial staff around the park does not help these situations.

FYE Coasters recently posted a video where there seemed to be less trash cans in an area than there used to be. Can anyone confirm or deny that you've seen the number of trash cans change recently?

I’ll have to agree.  First time I’d been back in a few years.  Went to the bathroom and was pretty shocked at the condition.  I’ve been hearing depressing things about the park since the merger, but actually other than that I had a pretty good time.  I did not encounter one jackass the whole day and the ride ops were extremely friendly with my grandson and us in general.  I don’t usually contact guest services, but I probably will this time.  I plan to give kudos as well

The park isn't going to make changes because cleaning and janitorial work doesn’t directly bring in money. Hiring more park service and ride associates costs more, so it’s not a priority. In fact, the park is likely to cut more staff if visitor spending continues to fall short of their metrics.

All of the parks can afford proper janitorial staff, safer operations, and better guest service; but of course that means old Zimmerman won't get all $9 million of his stock awards.

Anecdotally this season it does feel like we've had to look around a little bit more for a trash can when we needed one.

I wish I could react with an angry emoji. Stupid corporate greed.

Ki is no different than any other corporation-they all maximize profits and not much can change that. Sad but true.  I pick my battles these days and this one isnt worth it-I enjoy the good times and walk from the bad.

Curious-you mean they didn’t unleash the pine sol dust?

When I worked at the park, the disinfectant was called Voban....Voban is a granular, aromatic absorbent powder used to clean up and neutralize spills, particularly vomit and other bodily fluids. It is designed to quickly absorb liquids and odors, preventing staining on carpets and fabrics. The powder is fortified with enzymes to further eliminate odors

The "janitors" you mentioned were called "litter gitters"... appropriately dressed in green and white stripes

Part of me wishes Kings Island would build a new set of restrooms between Jukebox Diner and Coney Treats to free up that space. It would replace an older restroom set and make it so that guests don't have to fully walk to either end of Coney Mall just to use the facilities. The renovated restrooms over by Diamondback seem to be holding up well so far. My only remaining issue with them is their lack of partitions between the urinals.

So you like that restroom because you can take a sneak peek?

Well, I like it because it's never busy. Guess I could have worked on the phrasing on that one!

I think the big issue with cleanliness this year is that I don't think they powerwash the walkways at night anymore (which I think started last year), or at least not as often as they used to. Combined with how Park Services seems to be scaled back significantly this year, it means everything feels much grungier than previous years. It's one of those things that people won't necessarily go to GR and complain about, but it sticks in their mind when it's time to renew their pass or choose between KI and other entertainment options.

They started not washing the walkways in '23 as part of the first year of budget cuts. I think they did it every three or four nights. It was really noticeable during the parade when parents would often remark about how dirty the park has become. Hopefully they are doing it at least once a week this season.

if it’s cheap and it’s dirty people will feel even less likely to take care of it. It’s a self fulfilling cycle.
