  1. What if I told you that most people already consider KI a major thrill park?

  2. I honestly hope after this, KI moves away from building new coasters at the rate they've been. I'd like to see some more creative flats or a decent dark ride, spruce up the non-coaster line up.

  3. Has anyone pointed out the "new prop building" in the queue line? Would this be a themed room, like a smaller FoF room?

  6. Yes, it's labeled as a Quonset hut on another sheet and is listed as being filed separately from Project X. Since it appears both Fast Lane and the regular line are routed through it, it apparently must have something pretty important inside.

  7. This looks good! Still working on my concept. Working with overlays and everything to get it perfected. Still ... I love this coaster. It’s gonna be so much fun! It’s all about perspective. Is it a record breaker? Noo. But will it be wicked?! Big time!

  8. The company that made the Banshee sign has been contracted by the park (Per the Notice of commencement)

  9. I'm really surprised they didn't lay out the queues in such a way that the Firehawk queue could serve as overflow for Flight of Fear OR for the Giga based on which of the two needs overflow. On opening day, you can rest assured it will be the Giga, however, the rest of the time, it would more likely be Flight of Fear. The Giga will be a people-eater and if it's anything like Banshee, may move people so quickly that it almost never has a line at all. The best thing about our Giga is that if Banshee is anything to go by, we can expect relatively short waits most of the time. That thing is extremely popular but has very short lines on even the busiest of days due to its capacity.

  10. It would be a waste to re-theme Flight of Fear. The indoor queue and station are already themed and not in bad shape. The indoor queue still has the pre-show video too.

  11. If it was 324ft you would still have many on here complaining! I am for happy KI is installing coasters at the rate they have been.

  12. That pretty much kills his credibility. Theres absolutely no vertical loop on this. We can see the track in the layout. The most we can expect is an overbanked turn. There will be no inversions on it.

  13. I believe a lot of people's frustration comes out of the fact they wanted and hyped it in their minds that this would be better than Fury and be the number one ride in the world. Very similar to the ridiculous theories people had with the shed. Also, I find it interesting that Millennium Force has a space theme, and this ride is looking like it will, too. Even the station looks similar to Millennium's. Maybe they wanted this ride to compliment and/or be better than Millennium.
    7 points
  14. Looking at the plans, the station looks like a military hangar. If they keep the Area 51/UFO theme on FOF, then perhaps "Project X" is the new aircraft (spacecraft?) built from that technology?

  15. I think people have every right to be disappointed. We love the park and want it to do big, great things. This is the only time we will ever get an investment like this, and while I’m sure it will be a GP crowd-pleaser and get a decent return, saying “shut up and be grateful for your ride” isn’t fair. It is disappointing because to pull in big TOURIST crowds, that’s when big record-breakers matter, and I had hoped this was the direction this park would ultimately go, but it seems they don’t want to compete with their own tourist base to the north. Mostly I just don’t get the exorbitant expense for a ride like this. I was almost sure the initially leaked plans were fake because it just didn’t make business sense to me. There are a lot cheaper ways to bring in *some* people and appease the GP. Maybe ways that wouldn’t stomp all over the once-charming look of The Racer, add another massive south-facing lift hill to the skyline, and ruin The Beast’s backwooded solidarity - its best attribute. The 30 feet of trees between the two rides will offer almost no camouflage from a towering, colorful, roaring 100-ft-tall turnaround. If we’re going to be relegated to being in the “charming family park” category, and not get the very best roller coasters, I’d rather we at least actually kept the charm. Finding the cheapest way to technically have a Giga is not a good sign for how the chain considers the park.

  16. Those were fun times, back when Paramount had potential for greatness

  17. If I remember correctly, the company who did Banshee's sign also did other things around the park as well. Like Tropical Plunge's sign.

  18. No problem! It was more of a calculated estimate back then, but yesterday's blueprints solidified several things. KI can arbitrarily measure the height from anywhere though, so they still may say it's 3xx' feet tall, but per engineered prints, it's only 286' from the ground directly below the crest, so that's what I'm sticking with!
    7 points
  19. I would like to acknowledge @fryoj @BSBMX@DustinTheNow and the others who calculated the 285' foot lift before the rest of the prints were released. Nice work decoding! I'm sure this coaster will be good, although, CF probably could've gone all out on this one and done better

  20. Wonder how many guest will think they are boarding Firehawk to find them self’s in line for Flight of Fear. Sidenote: Wouldn’t the haunt building need water lines for fire suppression systems?

  21. If I'm to be honest, I'm a little perturbed by a person who has 4 posts, and 50% of those are telling other members of the forum what they should be doing on the forum. Beyond that, I guess I'm just being cranky.

  25. The VR thing has always seemed odd to me. You'd figure the view from a rollercoaster would be spectacle-enough.
    6 points
  26. That would make it an X-plane (experimental plane). A name something like X-301 would be interesting, because it's both lacking but at the same time, fits the theme perfectly.

  31. Someone asked about the lift lights a few pages back (sorry this is a very active thread), and where I came to the conclusion of stream/chaser lights possibly like Valravn, see highlighted section from lift electrical prints below, circuit LP-247B-7: Personally I'm glad this lift will look different in the skyline than Diamondback (the single point egress lights every so often don't really highlight the lift).

  32. Cool idea, but yesterday's blueprints only show two hills consecutively.

  33. I think another company did the other signs, the Notice of commencement had 2 sign companies. The other sign company I assume did the Kings Mills auto sign(Based off of their portfolio). I’m assuming the flat, less detail signs are made by that company. Exhibit 3 fabrications (The ones who made the Banshee sign) as you mentioned also does a ton of work around the park.

  34. Then that almost confirms that X base will remain a dead-end in the park won't add another path. Also people who are in line for Flight of Fear, when the Firehawk que is used, will have an awesome view of the new coaster

  38. The lift's crest is 286' from the ground directly below it. I have an earlier post on page 145 describing how I came to this, but this pic below sums it up. The 4 footings surrounding the the crest are all at roughly the same height (750' ground elevation). These heights are from the footings coordinates, so they're legit numbers. I'm assuming that these heights are negligibly close to ground level (maybe 2-3ft above ground, but for simplicity here, I'm calling this zero). The crest elevation is 1035.9, so subtract the 750' ground elevation from that gives us ~286'. The crest is 286' directly above the ground below it. You're close with your 17' estimate to track height, but using the dimensions on that sheet you took an image of, I'd say the track height is right at 19' (about 1' below the station floor, which is at 20' off the ground). Note that the ground here is at an elevation of 740', about 10' lower than the ground where the lift's crest is. So, if you want to measure from the station's ground height, then the lift is 296' from the ground. However, station height is irrelevant to lift height. You don't simply tack on the 17' or 19' onto the 286'...they're independent numbers. The elevation heights are what we care about, so whether you measure from the ground at the station, or ground directly below the lift's crest, you're in the 286-296' range. They're marketing grab-words are the fact that the drop is 301', making it a giga coaster. At the end of the day though, they can literally say whatever they want and nobody will publicly refute them.

  39. I consider it a Giga automatically if it has a 300 foot drop, regardless of height since it is the drop and not the height that determines all of the characteristics of the ride. Same with a hyper but with a 200 foot drop. So Phantom's Revenge is a hyper despite the tallest point being 30% smaller than the biggest drop. If drop is less than 200 or 300, then I consider it a hyper or giga based on whether it is "within reason". I think 10% is a good benchmark. This way, things like Magnum are still a hypercoaster, but we don't have to count things like High Roller on the Stratosphere Tower, which obviously shouldn't count. as a 909 foot coaster.

  40. Hey, I might just be going crazy but maybe this is all part of a bigger plan. Maybe Kings Island will be getting the record breaking RMC ground up topper track woodie in 2024 and in 2030, maybe KI will get that Strata! It’s all a process y’all!

  41. I know some people are disappointed by the new coaster, but I've only ridden one other giga and am very excited to ride our new one next year. Like everyone I wish it was a longer ride, but with all of the different elements it will have I can't wait to ride it next year.

  42. Getting back on topic, I do think it's interesting that the park decided to combine Firehawk and Flight of Fear's que line. However, something bugs me. Every time I've been to the park, only half of the FoF que has ever been open; the part to the right of the UFO. Does the park still utilize the left hand side of the que?

  43. Kinda interesting if they are walking around Congo Falls as well. There are rumors that both Congo and Invertigo will be removed in the next few years. I could see those two being the next on the chopping block and it could be where our next coaster is going (after 2020). But it could be nothing (like the whole RMC spotted at KI rumors from last summer).

  44. Our turnaround does look similar to Leviathan's hammerhead from the top angle, but the top point of ours is about 90 degrees away from Leviathan's, which is almost perfectly centered. I think our turnaround is something different.

  45. Per the footings coordinates in CAD, that distance is 97.96' (you can probably just round up to 98'). Note my number below is a factor of 12 off given my CAD cannot support such large numbers, so I have everything scaled down by 12.

  46. I would say its pretty doubtful with a drop of 301. MF goes 92 for comparison with a drop of 300. I think its just going to be the Tallest,Fastest coaster in SW Ohio. Just saying the coaster has a 300ft drop will get the general public to show up. It might not be the enthusiast's wet dream coaster like people thought it would, but I would not be surprised to see it rank consistently in the top 10 of stuff like the Golden Tickets.

  47. I keep studying the turnaround by The Beast, and even though it’s not a reverse treble clef, I think it will be far better. So you enter the turn vertically, but given the speed of the transition and the placement of the apex towards the inside, the sideways airtime you get will far exceed what you get on Fury’s horseshoe turn. The train is going to be tossing you to the right. I will try to make a Planet Coaster recreation within the next few days of what I think the layout will be like.

  48. No................ it's 286 ft from the ground at the peak. It's 296 ft from the ground at the Backbone footer. Once again, no one who knows what they are looking at are using station height for anything. That number is irrelevant. The lift foundation plans have the finished sea level height of the footers. These are not numbers that get fudged. If the top of the footers aren't right to within a few inches, the steel that is made elsewhere doesn't line up and none of it works.
