That was a fun day with Keith. I also remember standing outside in the parking lot of KI last season after the park closed talking with Keith, Ryan (BoddaH1994) and a few others discussing the coming Soak City. Keith was one of those guys that enjoyed people and made friends with everyone. After meeting him and hanging with him for a few hours you would have thought you had been buddies for years. I got to say, I always enjoyed hearing his accent as well. Avatar, IBEW_Sparky, and I visited Keith before the GOCC holdiay party last December at his home. We were so hopeful that he would be able to beat the cancer. I am sure Avatar and Sparky will agree that we are so glad that we took the extra hour of our trip that day to stop and see him. He was a true friend to not only us, but everyone on KIC, even if you had never meet him and just read his posts. He made it to the park this year as well. Maybe not as a rider, but he came and took pictures of the KIC group at the Coasting for Kids event this year. KingsIslandPR (Don) even walked him back to get some pics of us ridding in areas that only the media can go. We appreciate the park extending that to privilege to Keith. I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of such a great friend, father, and loyal KIC'er. He was such an asset to this community. May he be in peace, cancer free, and enjoying that Kings Island in the sky. A few pics he took from this years Coasting for Kids!

I dreaded even opening this topic...I had a sinking feeling that I knew what it might be and I didn't want to see it confirmed, I had such high hopes that Keith would win his battle. Although I never met Keith in person, I feel that through his amazing trip reports I know him better than people that I do come in contact personally. He was a huge asset to this community. One of my favorite lines from one of Keith's trip reports is as follows: "...another family Disney trip while the boys were in that prime age (5, 7, and 40)" Even though this line makes me sad at the moment, it also makes me smile...which i'm sure would make Keith happy. My heart goes out to all of his family and friends, he will truly be missed.

Gator that's exactly what happened. Once Keith showed up everything kept going down. But the great KIC Racer evac was pretty epic, especially since another KICer had the key to let us out but he went along with it and laughed harder than all of us. Thats just how he was. He was a great inspiration to all of us and you could tell he loved his family. If anyone else is interested, we've set up a collection on PayPal if anyone wants to donate for a flower arrangement/memorial for the family. I was so sad to hear about Keith's passing. It was an honor to know him. This just shows how fragile life is. I cherish the times that I spent with him. We first met in line for Diamondback, I was wearing my KIC shirt with my user name on the back. He was in the next row over and introduced himself to me. It was a few months later until we met again at the Gravity Group tour & bowling afterwards. You could tell he was a caring father, who loved being with his sons. He was so proud of them, and it was so fun to spend time with them at the park. We would often talk about our kids' first times on rides, and how we couldn't wait until they were tall enough to hit the next height requirement, their first rides on Beast, and so on. I was one of those in that group that MF2000CMH spoke about above on opening day last year. I don't know how we decided it was Keith's fault that the rides kept going down. I think it was because until we met up with him, everything had been running smoothly, but then after we met up the rides started going down. It became a running joke all year, and he took it in stride. When I first heard of his cancer diagnosis, I thought "he'll make it." After all, my sister had made it through hers and I knew Keith would have the right attitude to help him through. I had a goal during Coasting for Kids, and that was to get over 100 laps on Racer. But when I saw Keith there, I just had to get off and spend some time with him. It had been too long since I had seen him, and I wanted to see how he was doing. It was difficult to understand what he was saying at times, but he still kept his sense of humor. When he was discussing how he couldn't eat and on a feeding tube that bypassed his mouth and throat, Avatar asked, "So what's your favorite flavor?" We all laughed, including Keith. I didn't make my 100 lap goal, but I said even then that it was so worth it just to talk to him again after so long. And sadly, that was the last time I saw him and talked to him in person, outside of KIC and Facebook. It was so good to see him continuing to post on here, and on Facebook, and keeping up on his KIC fantasy NASCAR team. I assumed things were getting better for him, so it was a shock when I got the text from rotag yesterday telling me that he had passed away. I feel for his wife and kids, losing their husband and dad at such a young age. We were close to the same age, and had gone to neighboring high schools around the same time, but it took this site to introduce us. Cherish your time with friends and family, they may be gone too soon.

I am deeply saddened to hear this news. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I too remember getting stuck on the Blue Racer, or him asking me on here about things related to Coney. I remember him at that bowling party. He always had so much enthusiasm for Kings Island and amusement parks. He was a great guy and always seemed to have fun bringing his kids to the park to share in his enjoyment of the place. Its unfortunate, how early his life ended. I`m sure he`s up there in that big amusement park in the sky looking down on us. Rest in peace Keith. You will certainly be missed by the KICentral community. Robbie

Just bumping one of my favorite trip reports from Keith.

Shell shocked, Keith - KIfan1980 always had a smile on his face, very intellegent I'll never forget him standing up and speaking out at Mason's city council against Mason's tax on Kings Island. Praying for his family, wife and two boys...

Prayers to the family. I know what it feels like to lose someone to such an unfair disease, one of my friends just passed away three days ago after a battling cancer throughout high school. He was only 17 and I can tell you, people with cancer are stronger than anything else on this earth. Their courage is unreal. I can only hope that one day cancer is just a zodiac sign...

I remember Keith being at ERT a lot at Diamondback and always getting real wild and crazy. I didn't get to know him as well as I would have liked but treasure the fact that I did have the privilege of knowing him. One of my favorite sights at KI was seeing him with his two boys-he was obviously devoted to them. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and boys.

I just found out that a fellow KIC member Keith Harrison (KIFan1980) passed away last night after a heroic battle with cancer. I first met Keith at the Diamondback station waiting in line. I was new to KIC and to being a coaster enthusiast. Keith recognized me from my avatar and extended his hand to welcome me to the family. I will miss you for now, but am sure that we will meet again and i know that his hand will be outstretched when we reunite. (Contributed by DaveStroem)

I am very saddened to hear of Keith's passing.He was always a pleasant man with a smile on his face.When I think of him the first thing that comes to mind is standing in line for DB.He was there frequently and for ert.I also remember the unusual way he would squat down when bowling.He would release the ball and then immediately squat down and watch the ball hit the pins.I was on The Racer train last year when it stopped on the lift and everyone started saying,"Keith!You broke the ride!"He was very devoted to his two boys.I remember the last time I saw him in June outside DB's entrance.He had lost a lot of weight and his voice was a whisper.His sons were with him.Even in not the best of health he still wanted his boys to spend time with their dad at KI.I had heard that he likely didn't have too much longer.I didn't want to believe it.Farewell Keith.The next time any of us are at KI take an extra lap on DB for Keith.

The one and only time I ever met Keith, I was working at Magic Kingdom. It was a slow, rainy night. I had messaged him on KIC telling him to look for me. Sure enough as I walk near Pirates of the Caribbean, I hear my name being called. It was Keith and his sons. I stopped and talked to him in the pouring rain. It wasn't a long Convo, since it rained and he was en route to his wife. I believe that was his final trip to Disney. It was one of my more memorable Disney moments. I always hoped to bump into him at KI. He was a great friend and great farther. A wonderful human being. He will be missed greatly.

I may not have many words, but I know what it's like to lose a friend to Cancer, or to lose a friend at all, it's so hard. R.I.P. Keith, every ride from now on, will be for you!

as everyone has stated before i, he was one heck of a great gentlemen; he always knew how to be fun. the first time i recall meeting him was on my first visit to strickers grove in 09' (which also happened to be the same day i broke my wrist from walking backwards (ive since gotten better @ the backwards walking thing)). i recall the first time i rode with him there on the tilt-a-whirl (he always told me that was his best t-a-w experiance). he shall be greatly missed by many.

My prayers go to the family. As a son who looks up to his dad(like every other child), I can not image the feeling they are going through. Something no child should ever have to see. Praying for you all.

As sad as it is for someone to be taken too soon, it's especially hard to see children lose a parent. Like several others posting here, my only connection to him was as a casual reader of this site over the years. Seeing the replies to this topic makes it clear he was a caring person loved by all who knew him. A tragic reminder to cherish the time you have with your loved ones, as there's never a guarantee that there will be more. My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

I was a little worried about the weather, as I think most people were. However, it turned out to be a great day at KI for my family and our sixth trip of the year. We got to the park about 3pm and the parking lot was the emptiest I think I've ever seen it. Last time I was at the park, we had to park in the very last row of the parking lot on the GWL side it was so packed. It was a nice surprise to see so few people. The lines were pretty short for the majority of the day; only FoF had more than a 30 min. wait. We wanted to take advantage of the $1 deals on the day and so we did. As soon as we entered the park, we went straight to the Skyline on Int'l Street for the $1 coneys. 10 coneys = $10. Once we finished eating, we looked around the I Love the 80's shop to let our food settle (can't believe the Back to the Future Flux Capacitor was $300). Then headed to one of the kids favorite rides - Adventure Express. It was a walk-on and a great ride as always. Next, I wanted to check out the lines for FoF, figuring it would have a less than normal wait. It did thankfully as I've been wanting my 9 year old son to ride it since he's grown to the 54" requirement. We haven't ridden it this year due to the long lines every time we've been. It's been over a year since I've been on it and a great ride as usual; my 2nd favorite ride in the park. I don't know if he liked it but I congratulated him for riding his first big (over 54") ride. I loved the lighting improvements; it was great to see so many lights working. The lights in the ****pit of the UFO were lit probably the first time I've ever seen them lit. It was also nice to see the alien in the container on the left side of the UFO. The LED type lights in the tunnel were on and was a nice addition. Great to see FoF get some little improvements to make the experience better. My boys and I then went to Vortex; it was another walk-on. And this is a first for me - a re-ride. We rode in 5-1 and 5-2 (this truly is the best place to ride this coaster; thanks to all on here for suggesting it in other posts). We came back into the station and nobody was in our row - yay, re-ride. My boys loved it; I'm okay with one ride as the second was a little tough for me. I guess I can't call myself a "ride warrior". After a ride on The Racers, and a couple rides my kids took on The Racers, I told my wife I wanted to get on Diamondback. My wife and kids went to partake in $1 blue ice cream - thank you KI - and I went to Diamondback. This would be my first ride on Diamondback in a couple years. I boarded the train and Gary Coleman asked if he could ride with me. Of course I said he could. He said the ride was number 8,066 for him. I love this ride; definitely my favorite. So much airtime it's hard to believe. Gary had mentioned he liked Diamondback better than MF and TTD at CP. Sounded like he may think MF is an overrated coaster like some others on here. Then while waiting on the final brake run we got to talking about what KI may be getting. He said he's heard we are receiving a coaster in '14. And if it's what he heard we are getting, I'm excited as I've never ridden the type of coaster KI may be getting. I can tell you one thing, the type of ride will be wild and will keep people coming back to the park. I'm excited. We then took a nice, relaxing ride on the train. Then we started to wind down and chose one more ride - Backlot Stunt Coaster. I can tell you that after this ride BLSC is definitely a triple launch coaster. I've never paid attention or noticed it before but after reading some discussion on here recently it's easy to spot/feel the 3rd launch. Afterwards, we took a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower and got some last good looks of SoB. I've only been on SoB once and it wasn't that great of an experience, so I'm not that disappointed it's coming down. I'm more excited to see and/or ride what will be coming in it's place. We left the park about 8pm and seemed like the right time. It started pouring rain as we were making our way down 71 and raining very hard. My family and I love KI and plan on renewing our season passes next year. This was the first year we had season passes and we enjoyed every visit. Looking forward to HH now. We went for the first time last year and very much enjoyed it. Thanks for reading.

Like many others on here, I only knew him through his posts, but he seemed like a really cool guy. It's just really sad to see that he was online just Saturday.

While I didn't know Keith, it is truly heart-breaking to read such terrible news. My sympathies to his family and friends, both on and off the board, in this difficult time.

This is truly heartbreaking. A young man with children and a wife...you've all said it above, but prayers and thoughts with his family in this impossible time. As a father, it brings tears to my eyes. He was, and continues to be loved.

Ah, Vortex, and Firehawk....I remember riding Vortex the first time, it was with my friend, and she had rod it a lot of times and was in total shock I had never rode it, and I told her the story about how our friend wouldn't ride the last time I was there and that my group didn't wanna leave him there alone. Boy, oh boy, Firehawk, I rode it with my cousin and two strangers, my picture was just......let's not go there, but the first time I rode it, I held on for dear life after I felt my body hit the front of the restraints on the turn over, but now I just ride like Superman!

Only knew him from his posts here on the board. Sad Ill never ride diamond back and see him on it. He brought many things to this board and made us better, just like he did in the real world RIP

In the few times I met Keith, he always went out of his way to be kind to me, my family and everyone else who was there. My prayers are with his family.

Although I only met Keith a few times, he was a great guy. My first time meeting him was at Holiwood Nights 10'. He bought my lunch for me that day for no other reason than him being himself helping others. I am sure I thanked him at the time, but I'd like to once again thank him for being such a great guy. RIP, all of us will miss you.

Seemed like a great guy- so sad to hear this... its crazy to think that someone who was on this site just last night is no longer here today. Thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family, and my next ride on Diamondback, whenever that may be, is in his honor. RIP KIfan1980. God bless!

Extremely sad to hear this news. Keith was such a great guy, both in the coaster community and when you got to know him on a more personal level. One of my favorite times with Keith was opening day last year when a group of KIC'ers, Keith and I were walking in the park trying to decide what to ride. We ended up in line for the Crypt when it broke down. We decided to stay in line because the A/C was great. We "tried" to figure out who's fault it was, somehow it got to be Keith's fault. After riding that, we ended up checking out a couple other rides. We finally decided to ride Racer (blue side). An almost full train of KIC members headed up the hill and got stuck 3/4ths of the way up. Who's fault was it? Everyone yelled to Keith, "way to break the ride Keith." He just laughed about it the entire day because it was just his luck that he was with some friends and things kept going down. I look back on that day and it has become one of the most cherished Kings Island visits for me. Keith will truly rest in peace and I'm sure he'll watch over all of us on our crazy coaster trips and throughout our lives. God Bless Keith and his family. RIP buddy!

I hope you have a comfortable seat and plenty of time because this will be long Disney World, Spring Break – four words that strike fear in the hearts of many, but since we didn't want to take Kyle out of school and really wanted another family Disney trip while the boys were in that prime age (5, 7, and 40), we decided to venture to Disney World last week. To make the most of the trip, I gathered advice from many (thanks Jesse, Dave, and others here on KIC who gave advice) and even invested in knowledge from tourguidemike.com ($20 well spent in my opinion) before setting out. What follows is an accounting of a truly spectacular family vacation! With airfares through the roof, we decided to drive this year. Santa helped with the Nintendo DS in both boys stockings and we made a good choice to include the third row of seats and DVD Entertainment system when we purchased a new car recently. My iPod on shuffle also reunited me with some good music I'd forgotten I had! We stopped on the way down just south of Atlanta where we were greeted by a Tornado Warning as we checked into the hotel (this was only the beginning of weather playing a big factor in our trip). Upon Arrival at Disney, we checked into our room at Boardwalk (my inlaws are Disney Vacation Club members and the stay was our Christmas present – best gift ever!) where we went Swimming at the Luna Park pool. Boardwalk also has this miniature carousel located in the lobby – according to the Disney website, it was hand-crafted in the 1920s at Coney Island by M.C. Illions, a master designer and manufacturer of merry-go-rounds. It is really neat to watch it in action. After a nice meal in Downtown Disney and a good night sleep, we ventured to Hollywood Studios for Rope Drop on Day 1 (Monday) despite the driving rain (although we got wet, we had a fantastic time and I know this significantly reduced the crowds we encountered). I secured the first set of Fastpasses of the day for Toy Story Midway Mania (yay me!) before we rode it standby – like many Disney rides, the queue for this is amazing, you feel like you are part of the toys in Andy's room! The ride is also an awesome interactive 3D experience. Following this, we rode the Tower of Terror, Rock-n-Roller Coaster and saw a few shows. I thoroughly enjoyed Walt-One Man's Dream - both the incredible items on display like an early diorama of the Peter Pan ride and the movie on his life – while the boys enjoyed Disney Jr. Live. We were all in awe at the Lights, Motor, Action Stunt Show – where despite the wet track, the show continued at high speed. After an afternoon break we headed to Epcot for dinner at Coral Reef – I've got to give huge thanks to Disney for making it so easy to vacation for families with dietary restrictions. We had a chef come to our table at every table service meal, and every cast member at the counter service restaurants knew what to do! We also hit a few rides (Soarin', Mission Space, Maelstrom – Test Track was down due to rain) before watching Illuminations, which I considered to be the best show at Disney (at least until Day 2) Day 2 (Tuesday) began with a risk of rain (although none came) and an early start at the Magic Kingdom. With touring plan in hand, we quickly worked our way through many rides in Tomorrowland (never waiting more than 10 minutes) Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, Astro Orbiter before crossing over to ride Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean. We also watched the Move It-Shake It Party, and enjoyed the atmosphere at the park – I love the topiaries, the band, and the character meet and greets. Following another afternoon break, we returned to the park for a few rides, dinner at Tony's, and then the shows: Main Street Electrical Parade – Magic, Memories, and You – Wishes. While technically not one show, MM&Y followed by Wishes is a truly magical and a memory from my day at Disney with the family that will stay with me. I'm also pretty much in awe of the technology that enables them to make the castle come alive in the MM&Y show (sorry, I was so busy watching that I didn't snap any decent pictures ) Day 3 and 4 to be added tomorrow

IBEW_Sparky I'm as nostalgic as anyone, I still miss Mill Race, but I have to say with respect that leaving the big 12-E Box is the worst idea I've ever heard. Haha I'm so happy to see that ugly box gone forever.

Sounds like Midget Wrestling will not be returning. Thank God. That show was awful.

Had the pleasure of meeting Keith last summer. He was a good man and we all had a great evening. I will forever remember taking my first ever ride on Delirium that day.

And you neglect the new and improved Express? Glad you had a great day, as well as experiencing one of your father's favorite ride with him. Your trip reports are great, and this one did not disappoint.

All of this makes me very, very happy. The last time I visited KI, even less theming than usual was working, and I swear on my pass there was a flat spot on the wheel I was riding above in the last car. Sounds like they've given my favorite KI coaster some love it was needing. And yes, Adventure Express is a wonderful night ride--especially during Haunt! I've never seen (or at least noticed) green lights between the station and first tunnel. I do hope the lights you noticed on the second lift aren't just the emergency floodlights that occasionally get left on, because with the way the lights (until my recent visits, anyway) were being repaired, it was doing the ride wonders. I think I've officially descended into AE fanboyism.

You MARATHONED Vortex?!?!?! On a Friday night in August? I am SOOOOO envious. I LOOOOVE marathoning Vortex. If I do go to KI tomorrow (September 3rd), I hope I'll be able to do some. If I don't, at least October will have some great days. Glad you enjoyed Vortex, the other rides, and the Backyard BBQ thing. Sounds like you had a lot of fun! EDIT: I remember my very first marathon on Vortex. It was in the evening of Sunday, September 26, 2010. I was 11 years old at the time. There was literally NO ONE waiting in the station. The ops were actually inviting me to stay on if I wanted. Meanwhile, the other passengers were getting off. I was the only one who stayed on, so for the rest of the evening, I had AN ENTIRE TRAIN all to myself! I will forever treasure that memory as I continue my riding on Vortex to this day. (What are the odds that someone will see an 11 year old on an entire Vortex train she has all to herself?) Ahh, good times, good times indeed.

The line was just on the stairs and it was about 5 minutes. As always, it was a very fun ride on Diamondback. After that ride, we headed back to The Beast. The Beast was only a station wait. I noticed the new red/orange/yellow lights in the station were on. The path lit up! It was a great ride on the world’s longest wooden rollercoaster. It was almost time for Lucy and my mom to leave, so we got a last ride for them on The Racer. Only the Red side was operating. From when we passed by Vortex. Racer was a station wait. And it was a fun ride on The Racer. Now, Lucy and my mom had to leave for something, so they left, while me and my dad stayed till close. My dad was hungry (He hasn’t ate in awhile) and wanted “meat”. We were by Hank’s, I asked if he wanted burritos, and he said that would be good. But, of course, it was closed. I then mentioned there was cheesesteaks by Diamondback, so we took a detour and headed there. We got to Snake Pit, my dad ordered a cheesesteak, I scanned my pass for FUN Perks, as he was way behind, and we waited for it. It took around 10 minutes, and then he sat down and ate it. He said I could probably take a quick Diamondback ride, so I went to do that. But, the line was almost to the entrance, around 10-15 minutes, and my dad was getting close to done, so I just went back. After he was done, my dad wanted to go to Flight of Fear, so we headed there. I was hoping for a short line, but I wasn’t sure how it would be. Luckily, the line started in the hangar and was about 10 minutes. “The Swings” of KI. “All Clear. Goodbye.” It was a great ride for us on Flight of Fear. I also noticed green lights outside of the exit, which looked cool. We then headed to Drop Tower. Drop Tower was literally a walk on. They weren’t even assigning seats. It was a great ride. I also noticed some people inside of Timber Wolf. I then decided to see if I was tall enough for Thunder Alley to use my instant reward, which expires on 9/22. I was tall enough. But of course, it was closed. We then ended up walking to Invertigo. There was only a few other people in Invertigo’s station, and we just waited for the cycle to end. It was my first time on Invertigo at night. Not much seems different, except for the lights. It was still a FUN ride. We then headed to The Racer. The Racer was just a station wait. It was also my first ever Racer night ride. It was a fun ride on The Racer. After that, we headed to Vortex. There was absolutely nobody in line. We could have just got the front row, but I wasn’t sure how rough it was, so just to be safe, I went in 5-1. It was a very fun ride on Vortex. There was nobody in our row, so we stayed on. Another great ride. I love putting my legs up (or down) on the first drop and corkscrews. Now, this next picture could only mean one thing. A Beast night ride! We walked right up to the station, but just missed a ride before the fireworks break. We waited for fireworks in The Beast station. I’ve learned The Beast station isn’t the best place to watch fireworks. Not the best view. But, after about 30 minutes of waiting, we got on. It, was, of course, an awesome night ride on The Beast, the best night ride coaster in the world. After that ride, the park was closed, and we walked to the entrance. We walked thru Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular on the way to the car. We walked thru the lit up International Street, and then out of the entrance. Goodnight Kings Island! A couple of notes: *Mostly the water rides and pay rides were closed for part of the time, but opened up later. *Lots of Haunt decorations, as you can tell, are being set up. It also seems The Crypt back doors are still half open . *I’m 65% to Level 4 and have just unlocked Bring A Friend Free, $20 off a 2013 pass, Free Dinosaurs Alive, Free fresh baked pretzel, free Sling Shot, and VIP Fireworks Viewing. Also, as mentioned, a fellow KICer Keith Harrison (Kifan1980) has passed away from cancer. I never knew him, but I know people who knew him. Rest in peace. Thanks For Reading

I contemplated creating a Post of this type, but hesitated, mainly because I was having a hard time finding words that fit. I first met Keith at HolliWood Nights 2010, and quickly became Friends with Him throughout the weekend. He genuinely is one of the best Men Ive ever had the Honor of knowing, and my Heart goes out to His Wife and two young Sons. The textbook example of the phrase "Only the good die young". One of the best, and taken far too soon.
