  2. Don't you dare even think about that. I don't like Graeter's very much... Would it be bad for me to say I would prefer a pile of rocks in place of it? Well not that bad. I mean, you'll be banished from Cincinnati, but other than that, it's no big deal.

  8. Short simple answer without getting too technical. Both KI and CP have a dedicated sub station that provides power to them, KI is located just south of the water park and has two "sides" one for KI and one for the surrounding area, CP is located on the mainland just west of the causeway I believe. Basically it is set up like a grid, they use a three phase system strung out around the park. Each "ride" or "attraction" will take power from one, two, or all three of the wires by a transformer that turns the voltage provided via the wires and turn it into a usable voltage. Basically it is the same as the wires going into an industrial park and being distributed into each business. CP system was upgraded not just for Maverick, but for the entire park.

  11. ^Robin, the Boy Wonder? So many choices. I loved all the old HB characters, even the lesser known (by today's standards) that used to walk around the park: Hong Kong Phooey, Quickdraw McGraw, Captain Caveman (one of my favorite costumes), Jabberjaw (another great costume, used to love seeing people being "eaten" by him), Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Scooby Dum... Then the more well known ones: Fred Flintstone & Barney Rubble (were Pebbles & Bam Bam there too? I seem to think they were but don't quite remember), Yogi, Boo Boo & Cindy, George Jetson & Astro... But I have to ultimately go with Scooby Doo!

  14. That is not why International Restaurant closed. In fact, company executives said at the time that it was highly profitable. There were other reasons that venue was closed. Those reasons continue today. They had nothing to do with profitability or table turn. If table turn is such a big issue for theme park restaurants, and it is not, please explain how it only affects Kings Island, and not the Disney parks, Universal, Busch Gardens, Cedar Point, Knott's Berry Farm, and literally dozens of others. Terp, somewhat of an expert in this field, and who depends on that expertise daily in his career.

  16. I'm gonna have to pass on this as well. They still offer the 10.99 fright feast which is still worth it in my opinion so I think I'll be spending my money on this instead.

  17. Also, for 100 dollars (the cost for my wife and I to eat there) why in the hell would I want to share a table with 20 other people? Assuming they only have the one large table.

  33. He received an offer that he couldn't resist and sold the park for $64,000,000. Every man has their selling point even if it is something he loves. He made a huge profit and foresaw the trouble that the Fair Board was going to cause dealing with business. So he was in a win/win situation. Sell the park for a huge profit and he did not have to deal with the Fair board which is (IMO) ultimately the reason why the park failed and is still not operating today. Ed Hart is not an idiot he knows exactly what he is doing.

  34. Its a safe bet, that if they had to bring in a whole new power line for Wicked Twister, they also put in some extra conduits to handle additional power in the future as the park expanded its need for electricity. when is it deemed that a ride needs its own power supply? Likely when that ride's electrical requirements push the park's current electrical grid above its capacity. Cedar Pointe has a definable amount of power available to the park that is limited by the number of wires brought into the park, the size of those wires, and the size of the transformers and circuit breakers inside the park. Think about your house and the circuit breaker you have. There is nothing that prevents you from plugging in a hairdryer into every outlet, turn on the dryer and AC all while watching TV and leaving the fridge open. However, the electrical system in most houses is not capable of handling all that load at once, which will cause a spike in demand of current and trip the circuit breaker. The circuit breaker is simply nothing more than a safety device that prevents too much power from coming into the house or any one circruit so that the lines w/n the circruit and/or house don't exceed their capacity and start a fire. Now if you wanted to run all that stuff at once, you could certainly hire an electrician to bring a new line to your house, run new wires in the walls to different parts of the building which will then allow you to run everything at once. That is essentially what Cedar Point did, they're grid was likely reaching peak capacity and Wicked Twister was going to push it over the edge, or close enough that fear of a power shut down from too many operations going on at the same time was a possibility. In order to increase their capacity, they went and brought a new line which gave them additional capacity for the park. Perhaps that line was sized specifically for Wicked Twister, perhaps that line had extra capacity for more park expansion in the future. I'd imagine the location of a new attraction is a factor, though it may be a small factor. Keep in mind, not all new rides need a ton of power in relation to the rest of the park. I'm sure the motors on Diamondback have a pretty high hP rating, but its likely a small fraction of the amount of power needed to cool down a space like Flight of Fear and all the AC that building uses as well as the power needed to run the ride. Dinosaurs Alive likely uses very little power in relation to other rides. the current infrastructure of a park likely pays a role in a ride's location. Its not overly difficult to run new electrical lines and conduit, but if you're going far off the beaten path that means you've got to dig trenches, perhaps saw cut concrete, patch up any concrete, etc.... Like any other business, they're looking to save money wherever they can. In most cases, the cost of installing new conduit for new electric lines w/n the park is probably a small cost compared to the cost of the actual ride itself. I'd also imagine all parks have a special arrangement w/ the local electric supplier. Kings Island might be the biggest user of power in warren county (I don't know that, I just can't think of anyone else that would come close). I'm sure they get a break in pricing, I'm sure Duke Energy is aware of their future expansion possibilities, etc... I'm sure King's Island already has expansion in mind the last time they updated their lines coming into the park. If they're starting to run out of power, they will consider expansion the next time they bring more power into the park.

  38. I see that a lot of parents take small children into the Story area for a rest. Sometimes little kids just get tired. I'll get a coffee and funnel cake and sit there for a break. I wish the water worked, but it doesn't. I like that area, it's a small respite away from everything, smack in the middle of the park.

  43. Absolutely ridiculous. Just ridiculous. 2, 3, and 4 (above) are not even exact duplicates. Not by a long shot. If your biggest fret is that Tidal Wave Bay is a copy, you need to take your complaint up with most every water park on earth that has a wave pool. It's honestly very, very absurd that you'd accuse Soak City at Kings Island of being a "copy" of Soak City at Cedar Point. It's not even worth arguing, though I know you'll attempt a snappy reply... Was the name "imported" from Sandusky? Yes. Every single other thing about the water park is exactly as it was when it was named Boomerang Bay save the action river and new wave pool. As for WindSeeker, most anyone who's actually been on a handful of them will tell you that they give quite different experiences. WindSeeker, if it's easier to think about it this way, is an outdoor observation tower. Now, wouldn't an observation tower in Mason, Ohio provide a wholly different experience than an observation tower in Doswell, Virginia? Sandusky, Ohio? Buena Park, California? But to argue that misses the point entirely, because the question is who cares? (EDIT: The answer to the question, by the way, is a vast, vast minority!) Believe it or not, most of the folks who visit Kings Island will never, ever, ever (NOT ONCE) visit Carowinds. An overwhelming majority of Knott's Berry Farm visitors haven't the slightest idea that a park called Kings Dominion exists at all, much less do they know (or care?) that it has one ride in common. Period. If you traveled to Kansas City, Missouri and declared in your most accusatory voice, "You know, a park in Ohio also has Dinosaurs Alive!" guess how many people would give a rat's behind? Something tells me that if Disney purchased Kings Island and decided to clone The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (which exists in four places in the world), Star Tours: The Adventures Continue (which is cloned in 3 places), The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure (which exists in two parks as identical clones), and Jungle Cruise (in five parks across the globe), you wouldn't mind at all. Am I right?

  45. We went down Saturday night (got there about 7:30) to let the older two not be hampered by the younger sister who is not tall enough for anything outside kids area. We did 7 slices of pizza, 5 cones, 1 drink refill, 1 Vortex ride photo (2nd child's first time riding), 2 bags cotton candy, 1 popcorn tub refill, 5 Coneys. Most expensive purchase was The Vortex stuff at $11.05 (big photo and snow globe).

  46. And who is to say if it was nixed, that it was in fact in the 11th hour? Any new attraction is a big investment by a park. They are going to do their due dilligence. If something comes up that causes them to think that their investment will cost more, or that the cost of the investment will not provide the necessary return on investment, then the smart decision would be to not install said investment. Then again, a park must invest money in order to lure in group sales and new customers, as well as to keep existing customers coming back. Fresh paint and new kiddy rides alone will not keep people coming back.
