I'm not saying the decision was not made for many years, but..... The metal used for the track is cold roll steel- the cheapest steel that can be purchased. The rust is not a surprise.

Place: Current Event Friday, History Class Subject: Son of Beast Demolition "True" Facts about the Ride: Son of Beast's major problems were in the loop. It would cost too much to fix and operate, and the park needs to worry more about employee payroll and the electric bill. No accident occurred in the rosebowl. Aaaand my personal favorite, Kings Island couldn't fix Son of Beast after the 2004 incident, so they turned to Paramount, where Paramount removed the loop.

Indeed, and this isn't a direct comment to anyone here but in general people think they are entitled to everything. You should be grateful that the park is even releasing the images and videos of this demolition. I remember coming to the park opening day in 2002 and seeing King Cobra in pieces and being heartbroken because I had no idea that the ride was leaving. They are doing the fans and community a favor and I for one am thankful for the time they take out of their days to share with us.

I have never been on Vortex. I do like watching it in action. Its fun standing right next to it watching it twist right by you.

1979, I was 6. Went on Beast after 4 hour wait. What a rush. Got back in line later in the day. 2 hour wait. I somehow shrunk and was not permitted to ride. Dad stuck papertowels in shoes to give me the 1/64" I needed. Waited another 2 hours. I'm at the air gates. It's 9:30pm-ish. Thunderstorm hits. Beast is closed.

I bought it online, so technically, I suppose, there was nothing Six Flags could have done to avoid that. (It's not like they could have updated the website beforehand to say, "Hey! Probably shouldn't buy a pass today, as we're going to close the park in an hour. Thanks, and have a Six Flags day!") And no, I didn't. Part of the closure announcement included a means of getting a pass refunded, which included mailing all evidence of purchase to Texas. That was the last I heard of the $40-$50 I spent on a pass. On the plus side, I now jokingly threaten to shut down parks my friends are interested in visiting by purchasing a pass.

It's been explained several times. Static pictures issued by the park are far safer than a live feed of a process that sometimes doesn't go as planned.

Meanwhile, a kingdom near Louisville remains under lock and key by a quite nasty Fair Board for the past several. We would have had bluegrass playing amidst its boardwalks, but alas, the only sound the board wants is that of bills flapping near their ears.

If I were Six Flags I would stay away from this deal. They are finally starting to turn things around. Dont want to go messing it up by merging with Cedar Fair

I just gave her a look and said, "You remember what happened last time we got on one of those!?!? I'm never doing those again!"

One time when I worked at the park, I got off early and decided to ride Invertigo. Right as I was next in line to ride, it shut down due to the weather (I think there was lightning or something). I didn't end up staying in line as I had to get home.

Two years ago I was not having the best day at school and I made plans to make the two hour drive to Kings Island straight after school. I did, and I immediately got in line for Diamondback. As my friend and I were next in line the ride closed because of inclement weather. It gets worse though, the park ended up closing hours early within a few minutes. And guess what happened next? It stopped raining and was gorgeous the rest of the afternoon, yet the park stayed closed. A few KICers and myself ended up spending a very long time at LaRosa's in West Chester.

This is a short version of my bad luck experience. My car key somehow fell out of my pocket while riding DB during ERT during last years haunt. Yes they were zipped up. I'm still not sure how it happened but it did. The ride crew said they were going to look for them but they never did find them. Got a ride back to a hotel (from Indy) from a friend they dropped us off in the morning at KI because the workers said they would look for the key in the morning. Our ride left because we were confident they had the key, but they didn't have the key. I called my mom to give my backup key to my fiance's mom (my mom was working) and have here drive it to KI. My fiance's mom dropped off the key AND.... it was the wrong key... We rode back home to Indy and came back on Monday. Had the car towed to a dealer. They cut a new key. So $225 (the cost for the key to be cut) later we were on my way home... The only positive was that a security guard (who shall remain nameless so he doesn't get in trouble) let my fiance and I in for free on sunday. It made the experience worth it because the gentleman saw we were in trouble and helped us out. Otherwise we would have literally sat out in front of KI for the entire day (our ride came at 6pm). That guy was totally awesome and we still say hello to him when we see him around the park!

All I know is my family and I go EVERY October and LAST October was the WORST I have EVER seen at Kings Island. We could barely MOVE in the park. I'm not kidding you. I'm scared that will happen again next weekend when we go. It's just absolutely TERRIBLY crowded. People are trying to use their passes for the last time (most of us for the season) and also people can go through MANY haunted attractions for WAY cheaper at KI than if they went in their town and paid $10 to $15 JUST to go through ONE haunted house. I'm serious...it's dang expensive to go to haunted houses but KI you can go through a decent amount of them all night long and they stay open late. Problem is the crowds are just unbelievable. We were baby stepping through the park last year because there wasn't much space left in the park that didn't have people standing there!!

Starting this Sunday for the rest of the season, the outdoor zones will be open on Sundays! Now you can get scared all three days.

Really? Where would the return on investment in that be? The money would better be spent on adding a new ride, or fixing up some of the existing infrastructure. Given the cost of licensing, it simply isn`t worthwile for the return. Not to say Coney is cheap, but for a smaller park, licensing is just out of the question in most circumstances. And this past weekend, they had Curios George and the Cat in the Hat having lunch, and then walking around the park. They also had "Big Boy" from Frisch`s there this past weekend walking around.

Ride Mean Streak in the front of a car (1-1, 2-1, 3-1...) for a more enjoyable experience. Maggie is most enjoyed in the middle of a car NOT train. I recommend 1-2 or 6-2. Also don't forget to come through Cut Throat to see the pirates.

I planned on opening the theme park portion of my vacation this year with Wet 'n Wild on August 27. Tropical Storm Isaac had other plans. It was pouring down rain that morning, but there was little to no wind, so I called the park to find out if they were going to open and was told yes. Figuring that I was going to get drenched anyway, I was the first one there about 5 minutes before the gates opened at 10:00. I changed, got my stuff in a locker, and hit a few slides with literally no wait, and so I figured it would be a good day. Just before 11:00 got in the wave pool for a round of waves, except when the signal that the waves were going to start was given, I waited and waited and they never came on. About one minute later, they announced over the PA system that the park was closed. I went up to the gate to ask about it and was told that they had too few people in the park. They have to get 50 guests in the first hour or they close for the day. So I left. Less than two hours later, the rain stopped for the day and the sun came out for a gorgeous day, perfect for fun in the sun. If they had been able to wait it out, I'm sure they would have gotten plenty of people once the rain stopped, but Isaac screwed it up.

Many, many years ago I drove to what was supposed to be the premiere of Hurler at Kings Dominion. Upon arrival, we immediately found that an entire section of the coaster was yet to be erected!

Ok. we all know we're going to get scared..... but the question is how? The parking price?

The Dinosaurs Alive attraction adds value. Lacking an educational component many schools will no longer allow field trips to Amusement Parks. Dinosaurs Alive addresses and fills the educational component requirement. This is also quite likely the reason for the separate admission fee. To segregate out the costs of the educational components of field trips to meet bookkeeping and regulatory requirements. Cedar Fair is savvy to exploit the school field trip market. Efforts such as Dinosaurs Alive assist in securing access to that market.

Am I the only one that's been impressed by how quickly the ride is coming down? Not meaning to come down on you, SonofBaconador. I just had this idea that this thing wouldn't totally be down till just before opening day 2013, but they're well on their way to have it down before New Years'. Is it just me, or is a page not a page in this thread until someone's joked about burning the ride down and someone's swooped in with a "the fumes would kill you" retort? (Not coming down on you, either, TheCrypt. Heck, I'm probably the pot calling the kettle black. I'm just saying!)

Can I just say one thing. My information is right from twitter it's self. It was an conversation from me to Don. Me: are you going to show video of the Lift and drop falling to the ground? Don: Depends on when it might be. Me: A lot of people on Kings Island Central are saying that will stay in the skyline until after haunt is over. (Wolf Pack Haunt) Don: It could be down before the end of Haunt. Could that mean that there is a possibility that the skyline will change even before the 27th or October when Haunt officially ends? Or would it be past the 28th of October. We could never know until it happens. Note: That I am NOT taking this as a fact. I'm saying there is a possibility.

Not sure why this topic is just for the ride ops. Once heard someone in the park ask the following, "why are the midgets not back this year?" With the answer being, "They grew up."

My wife and I were in line for The Beast on a Saturday night and a woman, about a ten year old boy, a fifty something man and a teenage boy got behind us, they were mouthing off back and forth and the teenager kept cussing at the boy and the woman. I tell my wife great tonight on a very special Springer...when I hear the woman quitely calling security, that's when I realized they weren't together. I had the woman and boy go ahead of us while they waited for security to get there, the man and teenager were both drunker than monkeys and didn't seem to want to mess with me. They were stupid enough to tell security that they did threaten the woman, the man saying " I can knock her on her -ss she isn't older than me". I told security that I better not see them in the parking lot because they were both wasted and to my suprise they were being loaded into a Mason cruiser when we were on the brake run.

Paul stated it best. Some enthusiasts can put a "black eye" on the perception of enthusiasts. A few bad apples can spoil it for the bunch. There are some enthusiasts who think they are entitled things when they go to the parks. This is a select minority, but they tend to stand out. Then there are those of us who have spent 11 seasons working in the industry and still are enthralled by it. I don`t care how many times I have ridden a certain coaster, I just enjoy going to the parks for the sake of enjoying the parks.

That's not the first burn by Don. I remember one burn in the Son of Beast to be removed thread. So I made this to follow demo of our beloved Son. That is all I know of so far.

There are many factors to consider. Coaster clubs like ACE have been rendered obsolete in certain ways by the internet and the abundance of communities that can be created at will. As for enthusiasts, everyone grows up and moves on to new things in life. Just in my lifetime I've gone from being the diehard rollercoaster fanatic, to an adult who still enjoys parks and rides but doesn't center his life around them. You also have an econonmy that's not in the greatest shape, so parks are doing their best to cater to the largest possible audience to sustain their business. Spending twenty million on a record breaking roller coaster may bring an influx or visitors short term, but it's not going to help your business as much as families or broad appeal will. I think the enthusiast population will always exist but it won't be as predominant as it was. When you can learn about any coaster, park, manufacturer etc. with the click of a mouse, it's hard to really be that much more in the know than anyone else

(MORE DETAILED) Slaughterhouse: Last year, I loved Slaughterhouse. It was by far the scariest for me. This year, I was disappointed. None of the actors attempted to scare; they were just walking around with their bloody meat cleavers and axes. It was the first time Slaughterhouse hadn’t scared me more than once. And, guess what? The highlight of the maze was the exit, where the chainsaw guy came out of nowhere to scare the living out of you – not there anymore. 5/10 Club Blood: Oh, Club Blood. The scares have always disappointed me but the girls haven’t (I’ll admit it) – but last night, I got scared a whole bunch. Great crew working in it. I loved the strobe lights part; I forgot about it since 2011 but it is easily the best segment of maze in Halloween Haunt. 8/10 Wolf Pack: Another maze that has always disappointed me but was great. Everything in it is covered in leaves, and the wolves match the color of the trees and dirt just right, so there were several times where I almost touched someone when I thought they were fake; one of the scares in it was the best scare of the night for me (a wolf standing perfectly still that looked fake, and decided to pick on me). 9/10 Urgent Scare: We did this one early in the night like Slaughterhouse, so the actors weren’t that great here either. I still love the theme and setup of the maze. The elevator simulation is awesome, and really freaks some people out. I did get scared several times, but once again, most of the actors were just standing around looking at me. 7/10 Holiday Horror: Last year I thought the same thing; this is more fun than scary. Same way this year, but I was disappointed, AGAIN. No actors! The President’s Day section had absolutely no actors like they did last year, there was no Easter bunny, and only about one actor per holiday. I’m very sad that one of my favorite mazes from last year wasn’t nearly as good this year. 4/10. Overall, last night's mazes were decent. They were all the same as last year but there was a scarce amount of scareactors. Nightmare Alley was stupid, like Snowman said, if you're afraid of giant eyes hanging down from trees, don't do it! Other than that, no scareactors there either. Freak Street's the best scare zone, easily, with the overabundance of fog and the lasers. I'm guessing it wasn't that great last night because it was the first night of the year. Hopefully as the year goes on it will get better.

^I've always loved the scarzones, Nightmare Alley was great last year. It's always nice having something scary that you don't have to wait in line for.
