  1. Am I the only one who couldn't care less about getting a Giga? Even a coaster for that matter. The big bad coaster war is over, friends. Here's to a new dark ride in 2014! Wishful thinking...

  2. Wasn't the same thing said about Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, (the list goes on) when they were popular? Kids are going to get exposed to music that parents feel is not appropriate. My 7 and 2 year old love that song. They don't know what it is saying, they just love the beat and I would have no problem with them hearing it at KI. It is up to the parents to teach their kids what is right and wrong. We have to explain to them to not take the lyrics of a song as the truth. I tell my kids that a Disney movie is just a fairly tale, not the truth, and not real life. I see no difference in explaining that a song is someone expressing themselves in music form, and can not be take as the truth or factual.

  7. The good ol' days, when the park had a clear vision of what it should be. No mega expansion, no mega licenses, no mega prices. A local picnic park with beautiful grounds, a solid ride collection, and a price that the locals could afford.

  8. So you may have noticed that we were under Maverick for the walk through of Cut Throat Cove, so we also got some great pics of Maverick as well. Track Traveling through the roll First Drop: First turn after the second launch. This was a hard picture to get with the speeds of the train and using a cell phone camera! Up next was the construction tour of Gatekeeper! Pics from tour! Crane ready for putting in track! All that remains of Disaster Transport, the transformers. These are still needed for service so they will not be removed until after the season ends by the power company! Annie explaining plans for the new ride. Footers ready for pouring! Electrician Larry explains about the power coming into the park. He also states the main entrance will be leveled and rebuilt about 10 ft closer to the parking lot than where it is today. Station location! The footer behind the crane in where the first drop will be. Parking lot construction: At this point it was about 5:30 and we had a 5 hr drive ahead of us. So we headed out to make our drive to Indy! I just found one more pic I got of a Wildcat car! Hope you enjoyed the PTR!

  9. The news station isn't saying their interpretation of the proposal makes it "in doubt," they're saying that the sources and people they've interviewed are in "doubt" about it, as noted in the article. Did you read the article? While the state suggested in its RFP that collateral can be used, the other government officials who were sourced (presumably and most likely not the same ones who did the RFP study) expressed "doubt" and concern over that method. Hence the article. The news station didn't spin this to make it "exciting," they reported it pretty accurately. There's an RFP that suggested ways of financing. Ed Hart made a new proposal. Government officials expressed concern and doubt.

  10. Presumably this will require the park to be open then, making this good news for people who want night coaster rides and aren't able to come to HoliWood Nights or in the fall. As-is, it's a rather "dry" ride, especially for a water park. Perhaps they'll look East add some spitting giraffes after the flume. Then there's that long walk connecting Giraffica+RhinoBlaster+future expansion to the rest of Splashin' Safari. This is a park that pays attention to details, so I'm sure we'll see some changes along that route now that it's "in" the water park. (Misters, shade, and seating?)

  11. So true! HW just seems to understand their customers by thinking of the small things... not the larger. Sometimes you don't need to add a second wavepool... just more shade, a small family ride, and shows.

  12. Kind of like how our German area doesn't play German music, how our action-centered area doesn't play action-y music, or how our western town plays no western music. Instead we get sad songs by Adele and songs about ex boyfriends by Taylor Swift.

  15. On Saturday, Oct 20th IBEW_Sparky and I left Indy around 4AM to head up to Cedar Point. We were attending the GOCC/ACE event Shocktoberfest. On Saturday we were going to be filming an episode of Insane Coaster Wars on Magnum XL200. It was a very cold and dreary day, but we had a good time fiilming. At 3:45 we checked in to walk through Eden Musee's haunted house. (Like Madame Fatale's Cavern of Terror at KI) Here are some pics of the house with the lights on. I got some good pics of Mean Streak while we were waiting to go into Eden Musee. At this point in the day it was around 5:00 P.M and the park was getting very busy. So we tooks some pics in the park. A stream that we had not ever seen before. Mllie pics! At 5:30 this is what the queue looked like while we tooks a relaxing ride on the train. Full queue! Haunt props! Corkscrew from the bumper cars queue! We ended up heading to the hotel about 9 PM to get some rest for day 2, which was the actual event day. Day 2: On Sunday we got up about 7:30am to be at the park by 9am to film another Insane Coaster Wars on Maverick. At 10:00 AM we had ERT on Millie for the event. After our ride on Maverick we headed towards Millie for the ERT. We got about 6 or 7 rides in during our Ert and about 1/2 hr of normal ERT. At 10:30 we headed back to Maverick to get a ride in before the park opened. After another great ride on Maverick we headed towards Mean Streak and got a few rides on it before the GP made it to the back of the park. We then headed to Dragster to get a ride in before lunch. We got on in about 1/2 hr. This was my best ride on it, since this was my third ride. I now knew what to expect and was able to relax and enjoy the ride. We then had lunch provided at the Coral Courtyard. After a good lunch we have a behind the scenes tour of Cut Throat Cove, an outside maze. Here are some pictures of the maze.... A few fellow coaster enthusiasts Annie from Marketing who was leading the tour. More pics to come!

  18. My girlfriend is the same way. She hates the songs I play in the car, but when they come out on the radio 4 months later she asks if I have ever heard this awesome song before.

  19. Exactly..that reminds me of a lot of people I know that only like the songs that are on mainstream. They won't ever, ever, check out other songs. I even showed my friend the song "Some Nights" by Fun. back in February (when they weren't popular) and she hated it. Now that it's mainstream, she likes the song. Ugh. (That sounded so hipster. I hate that about me, )

  22. That would make perfect sence to take down those two slides because frankly, they just are not fun anymore. Almost painful sometimes. That would definitely open up that area and create less of a bottleneck. Those two slides, as I recall, were the first two slides in SS's existence. In addition, no matter how crowded the waterpark is, those two slide rarely ever have a line. Yet, Congo River? This just doesn't add up for me. Both of those rivers are populated at once. I can't see them wanting to get rid of it 'too' soon.

  23. Sounds like great additions to me! Based on the schedule expansion, it sounds like Happy Halloween Weekends has been relatively successful (which I was hoping for, as that's a fun little event.) Also, it would be wonderful if the park's hours extended into the evenings during the summer for the light show, because I've been dying to try any of the coasters after dark but haven't ever been able to make it to Holiwood Nights. I'm curious to know how further expansion of/beyond Thanksgiving will happen now if Pilgrim's Plunge is being annexed to Splashin' Safari. (They're not physically moving the ride, right?) I've read somewhere before that long-term plans for the park will make Thanksgiving the centerpiece of Holiday World, so I'm just wondering where else they could go with the paths. I always thought they'd extend over the tunnel from Splashin' Safari for Pilgrim's Plunge and continue adding rides, etc. beyond the ride, but that's where Rhino Blaster is going. Maybe they'll extend to the east of PP? Also, here's hoping the Splashin' Safari entrance remodel will expand the nearby path to Thanksgiving (or at least improve the flow.) That thing congests pretty bad around opening when everyone's trying to get to SS.

  24. I agree that this really isn't an appropriate song for children no matter how many kids know it and sing it. My 8 year old niece was singing it one day and I put a stop to that pretty quick, but then explained why it wasn't a good song to be singing. I was at a wedding reception 2 weeks ago and they played all kinds of music that I wouldn't find appropriate for children. And what was sad, all these young girls that were there, probably around 6-8 years old, were singing right along with the lyrics. They were singing along with songs about being sexy, going to clubs, getting drunk, hooking up at clubs, etc. I think we're exposing our children to things way to early. These kids don't know the difference at that young of an age. I doubt they even know what they're singing about, they just like the song. But these lyrics and themes get into their heads and after some time, could have a negative effect. The problem is that these songs are part of our popular culture and somehow that makes them acceptable. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "inappropriate" songs at "family" type events. Sorry didn't mean to go on a rant and get off topic, but I thought I would just express my opinion related to these 2 posts!

  26. I was also taken to Sea World when I was very young. I do not remember it a whole lot, but I remember playing in a ball pit and fishing with my parents off of a dock. My parents had most of the trip recorded on VHS, but they recorded over most of it by accident. (Kinda like the Everybody Loves Raymond episode where he records the Super Bowl over their wedding tape, only we recorded the Home and Garden channel)

  29. Sounds like you had a fun trip, and you got some really great pictures! I would love to participate in an episode of Insane Coaster Wars, that sounds like so much fun. I can't wait to go back to Cedar Point next year, seeing these pics just make me more excited about the coasters I didn't get to ride this year.

  34. I see a gap in the first drop. Is that what you're talking about? I'm guessing it was caused by adjacent photos being taken at different angles (i.e. with the satellite in slightly different positions in orbit). There's also a less-noticeable gap in the drop into the splashdown.

  35. ^ Yeah, I'm with Tanna. I'm very grateful that the park took passholders' suggestions and tried out a rewards system, but I think it would be more beneficial and more inspiring to users if the system wasn't based on "just blindly spend some money and watch what happens." Of course, I still ended up spending more money in the park this year than any other, so I suppose the goal was reached, but a continued lack of explanation kind of screams "we're in it for the profits." I understand that Kings Island is ultimately a business, so obviously increasing revenue is a goal... Just don't be so point-blank about it, I guess. Make the "regulars" feel like their business is appreciated rather than basically playing them as fools by encouraging them to endlessly spend money until the Mystical Percentage Roller Coaster Chart makes it over the first drop three times. And on the note of amount spent vs. percentage increase: I seriously do not understand the correlation at all. Mine was chuffing along at a decent rate when I purchased food, etc., and I blew through 1, 2, and 3 stars fairly easily over the course of the season. I used my pass on a $180 Fast Lane purchase the last weekend in September, and it only bumped me up about 30% on the way to level 4. Obviously, the higher star levels require more purchases/visits to advance, but either 1) Fast Lane doesn't count nearly as much toward rewards, which doesn't make sense to me since passholders would be more likely to leave and return another day instead of purchasing Fast Lane, or 2) the difference between going from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 must be huge. ...Wow, this post sounds like I'm griping. Not my intent, I swear. I do still like the FUNPerks system, promise! I just don't care for that one aspect of it. If I get a 2013 pass (which is only in question due to unrelated circumstances) I'll still happily make use of the system.

  41. I had a dream last night that Gatekeeper was built at Cedar Points Soak City and was being advertised inside CP and SC with images of the original art of Son of Beast on the 2000 KI maps. Sorry if this is confusing trying to find a way to word it.

  42. Another dream of mine! #4- I had this one in the summer of 2009, not long after I took my first ride on Diamondback. In the dream, I was with my mom and my older sister, and we were staying at Kings Island for the whole entire weekend. We got in line for Diamondback. The queue was arranged a little differently, with the many switchbacks being under where the brake run is (in real life). I was watching the drop, and a train was reaching the top of the lift, then I realized that part of the drop was missing- and the train was going straight for the gap! But it traveled normally as if the missing track was actually there! Then I also realized it was actually a dream and got the urge to open my eyes but I didn't want to, because I didn't want to stop this dream of spending a weekend at KI, but a few minutes later I gave up.

  43. I had a dream where I was looking at DB and the sky was all dark and grey. It was my first ride on DB. But the wating concorse ( I forget what its really called) had an elevator smack in the middle, and you would go up, and into a gift shop. You had to go through the fift shop to get to the ride. Once on the ride, (yes there was still a lift hill even though the elevator took to you too the gift shop even though the gift shop was at the top of DB's first lift hill ) As I was going up the hill, KI was running like norma, but the sky had black clouds, with a grey sky. I was halfway down the first hill when the dream ended. Yeah, a little wierd.

  44. I've had TONS of KI dreams- but in this post I'll mention 3 of them (in order). #1- I had this dream a few months prior to a trip I took to KI on 6/30/08. (before I became a thrill seeker) At the time my goal was to ride Runaway Reptar, but the dream started out with my mom and I eating at this International Street Restaurant-style restaurant (yes, it was still at KI) with Nickelodeon characters roaming around the room. The other guests in the room had lots of game prizes and giant stuffed animals, yet I had none. Suddenly I was at Nickelodeon Universe, within the park, standing at the entrance for Reptar. But I just ended up walking up this infinitely long carpeted staircase...and never rode Reptar before the dream ended. *On the bright side, during my 6/30/08 trip, I finally rode Reptar! (I guess things DID work out, after all) #2- This dream also was in 2008. This time I was riding Vortex on this sunny day in the spring (March?) except instead of the normal harness and all that, my so-called "restraint" was two pieces of white twine-like string, going in an X across my mid-section. The cars on the train were more like big tubs. I only went as far as the lift hill, then it jumped to the loops, then the dream ended. lol *Weird thing is/was, it would be two more years after that dream before I rode the real Vortex in 2010. #3- This one I also had in '08 as well! (go figure.) I was strolling through Coney Mall toward Vortex, and suddenly, I see this Vortex train on a section of straight track, TWIRLING THROUGH THE AIR OUT OF CONTROL...(the train stayed as straight as a ruler) then it exploded when it hit the ground. I almost cried, since I already loved Vortex just by watching it. When I woke up at 4 am, I thought, "I should definitely go back to Kings Island soon." More wacky KI dreams of mine coming soon...(Stay tuned!) -BFF, still dreaming on a semi-regular basis...

  45. So I had a crazy one last night. I was at Halloween Haunt on a Friday night and the park was dead, no pun intended. Anyway I went to Action(less) Zone first and got in line for Drop Tower. Walked right on. Next was Delirum, which was an hour wait, although on 5 people were in line. Gotta love the capacity on that machine. Also Delirum was where Invertigo was and Blood Drums was where Delirum is. Yes Invertigo was gone completely. Crazy part # 2 was Son of Beast was running. In my dream they had demo the rose bowl but reconnected the track from the second hill. Crazy part #3 all of the rides were hauntified. I.E. Delirum had people with chainsaws on the ground chasing you. DT had a monster on the lift car. Son of Beast still had Wolf Pack. FD line had been converted into a Haunt about plane crashes.
