I'm not conflicted... I flat out do not want KK to reopen. As a Louisville, Kentucky resident, I don't want my taxes to be used to re-open a park that has proven over and over to be nothing but a hands-off babysitter for uncontrollable west-enders on the busline. It was, and will be, a park heavily attended by troublemakers. We've heard how it will be bigger, better & wetter from Ed-no-so-smart-Hart. But he's not said one thing about how much "safer" it will be. Why? Because he's not focused on that. At least when HW was involved, they were inent on improving the reputation and ensuring safety. Hart hasn't even acknowledged there was a safety issue to begin with. The whole thing is a joke - the reason local people avoided KK was that it held a bad perception. Seriously - in latter years there were at least 3 cases of rape/molestation that took place inside the park!!! Mark my words - if re-opened, it will hold that same reputation within 1 season. It's ridiculous to see this as anything but the 3rd time at the rodeo. Fool us once - shame on us... fool us twice... Astroworld had the same issue - and Houston bulldozed it. They were smart... I hate going to Kings Island during the summer weekdays and expecting low crowds, then seeing the opposite. But, honestly, I agree with you. I love seeing the park crowded. That way I know it's successful.

How would less people at KI ever be a good thing?

The way Backlot Stunt Coaster (previously Italian Job Stunt Track) is set up, I was under the assumption that that might've been themed to SpongeBob. Replace the helicopter with a giant robot monster thingy manned by Plankton, have the dark portion resemble that of what's inside Boo Boo's Blasters, and boom. Anyway, most people here remember the ride surveys Paramount sent out towards the end of their reign for a multitude of concepts, few of which actually made it to fruition. Including: Mission Impossible Stunt Spectacular - Originally pitched to conincide with the release of MI:3, but was reduced to a generic traveling stunt show that only made it to Canada's Wonderland for a single season. Some believed it to be a potential replacement of Timberwolf Amphitheater. Tomb Raider: Firefall - The outdoor version of Kings Island's flat ride that eventually made it to Kings Dominion. Tomb Raider: Chamber of Fire - P itched as a brand new preshow/walkthrough experience. Mrs. Puff's Crash Course Boating School - Highly-themed Wild Mouse-styled coaster that was believed to be a part of the Nick Universe expansion for Kings Island. Rumored to have been dropped during the Viacom split by CBS. Nickelodeon Car Wash - Outdoor track ride believed to be a part of the Nick Universe expansion for Kings Island. Rumored to have used updated versions of the original Antique Cars that were removed to make way for IJ:ST. Also rumored to have been dropped during the Viacom split by CBS. Addams Family Coaster - Dark ride/coaster combo themed to the Addams Family movies. Concept was thrown out by Paramount, but later picked up by Dollywood and retooled as Mystery Mine. MTV Soundwave - Potential retheme for the Flight of Fear attractions at Kings Island and Kings Dominion. TV Land Lounge - Restaurant themed to CBS station TV Land. Believed to be downsized and rethemed as Happy Days Diner for several of the Paramount Parks. Titanic Simulator - Dark ride themed to the finale of Titanic, most likely simulating a large room being overtaken by water. Similar in scope to both Twister and Universal Orlando and Lights! Camera! Action! at Universal Studios Singapore Snow Day - Playland area based off the Nickelodeon film of the same name. Top Gun Afterburn - Vekoma coaster that would use prototype Tilt/Seesaw technology for the lift hill. Concept later built as Gravity Max at Discovery World in Taiwan.

It's been over 20 years for me, I don't remember exactly when we visited the last time. We moved away from the Cincinnati area in 1993. It's been about 10 months since I've been at a park though. We lived in Orlando for a little over a year and did Disney, Universal & Sea World. I worked for Disney for a little over a year in fact. I'd be interested to visit KI to see how it compares to the Central Florida Parks, mostly in terms of operations.

The recent pod cast featuring Matt Ouimet was very interesting. He reports bringing in hotel design folks from Disney days to assist in the "refreshment" of FUN lodging properties. Talked of concepts such as dueling piano lounges/lobbies. His discussions concerning dark rides and design limitations due to a lack of intellectual properties (IP) was insightful. To call Cedar Fair an "Entertainment Company" seems disingenuous to me. Lacking the IP component they really are more a collection of amusement parks. The ability to fully monetize theme parks and resorts is hobbled without IP content. Ownership of IP is critical to profitability leverage and capture long term profits from those assets. It will be interesting to see what else Mr. Ouimet has up his sleeves in the coming couple of years. With refinancing of debt, and the much lower annual interest expenses, I suspect Mr. Ouimet is readying to make an acquisition of one sort or another. Possibly pick up a park or attraction franchise they can locate near parks to gain a second admission. Look at Cedar Fair moving from the old guard view wherein lodging was simply warehousing guests, to the new guard action of lodging and hospitality adding value (and revenues!) to the Best Day Experience on Park. IP will increasingly play a larger role in the future Cedar Fair. Increase the offering, refine the product, and price accordingly. Theme is the meme.

Guys, I'm conflicted. Does it make me a bad person if deep down inside I hope that Kentucky Kingdom does not reopen? Because if KK reopens, I feel like it could hurt Holiday World due to competition and possibly hurt future expansion via less revenue. And I don't like that one bit.

I went to the Reds game last Friday against the Nationals. We went on my aunt's company night, and they had seats under the smokestacks in center field. We sat two rows behind the fence and had a great view of all the homeruns leaving the yard. My family and I got there just as the Reds were about to bat in the bottom of the first. As I walked around, I noticed five new things around the park. 1.) There are two Frisch's Big Boy Concession Stands which looked as if they were pretty successful. 2.) There are three rows of new seats over the visitor's bullpen. 3.) There is a giant neon Budweiser sign in the field concourse. I believe this is a league-wide development, as multiple ballparks like Toronto's Rogers Centre were also sporting the same sign. 4.) There are substantial price rises in many things around the ball park. For example, the Kroger Meal Deal went up from $7 to $9. 5.) The Reds Car Race and Mr. Red's Race have been combined into one. Other than that, it was a chilly but great night for baseball. With the Reds winning 15-0 against a "top" team in the NL, it was great. Plus, Shin Soo Choo threw me the ball he had been tossing to Jay Bruce before the 8th inning. It was my first ball caught. I ended up giving it to my little cousin who was sitting behind me and didn't have a chance to catch it. The Reds will be a top contender for the World Series this year. Choo is a great addition, and if they aren't plagued by injuries, they'll be fine. I will go even as far as to say that Heisey deserves a chance to challenge Ludwick (when he comes back) for the starting role.

The new seats over the visitor's bullpen are part of a new bar they put over there (hence the Budweiser logo). They way the team spun it to the media was that they always saw fans hanging out over there, so why not give them more reason to do so (translation: find a way to profit from areas where fans like to hang out). I was at that game with my fiance as well. The 7 run, 7th inning was awesome! Glad you had a good time. I still say being at the ballpark is just like being at KI. Even the worst days there are better than a good day at work!

Theming is great but upkeep is incredible long term goal of KI!

I hope some of the theming for Adventure Express can be redone, like the spears in the first tunnel. I wouldn't mind some additional theming on DB too, although I don't know what could be done there.

I'll go with large because the last medium I bought is a bit tight, and I don't mind if it runs a little big.

Ouimet officially started in January 2012, right? I wouldn't expect that he had much of anything to do with the Soak City retheme. That's mostly/all Kinzel. Replying to the original post: I would say, based on Gold Striker and the small atmosphere changes at KI and several other Cedar Fair parks, that Ouimet will do a little bit of both. Paramount-era theming it is not, but it's more than the concrete-and-trash-cans atmosphere of old management. For what the Cedar Fair parks had become under Kinzel (which wasn't bad--just not my preferred cup of tea), it's enough for me.
