  5. It's also kind of a unique situation with KIC since it is simply so large. Remember when "Kings Island new roller coaster" was trending at like #8 on Yahoo a few days before the announcement? That was all you guys. The first thing that popped up when you clicked the link was the, "Decoding 2014" thread. That thread lit a fire and the park continuously threw gasoline on it all season. They knew what they were doing. One thing that you see is that social media can be a series of photos and conversation, or an absolute machine. One works, and the other works very very well.

  7. Yes, leave the trees please. I love when trees surround and enclose the rides. It definitely has a different feel to it. Trees are one of my main theming items when I play Roller Coaster Tycoon. I love to place different kind of trees around the rides to create unique areas of the park. Kings Island has that going on, let's not mess it up.

  8. I disagree with them needing to remove trees for better views of the rides. The trees at the park are on of the best aspects of it. The wooded closed in nature gives it a very different feel. Just imagine how The Beast would be if the woods were all cleared away just so people could see the ride better from the midway, it would lose a large portion of its appeal and charm. I'm all for adding more trees where possible.

  9. Grizzly at Kings Dominion was once surrounded by nearly mature trees. Many were removed. Camden Park's midway once had huge, mature trees from end to end. Virtually all were removed. The place suffers greatly for it.

  10. I am not so much a tree huger type of person, but please don't take any trees out of KI that don't need to be. The big amount of trees and nature is one of the things I love about KI!

  12. From the perspective of a "monster", it's a double-edged sword when it comes to scaring people: always targeting the easily scared means you're alienating the rest of the group, but you know you'll get a good reaction, whereas attempting to startle those with a "straight face" means you have a 50/50 chance of either getting a positive or negative reaction, at worst the scare failing completely and you being chastised for it from the group. Maze monsters, for the most part, have a somewhat easier time with this because the groups come to them every 45 seconds. They pop out from behind a curtain or a door or a window, scare the group, and that's it. They never see that group again. If they messed up or somehow got the wrong part of the group, tough luck; the next monster can pick up the slack (unless you're the last scare of the maze). Street monsters don't have that luxury of waiting and resetting scares, ESPECIALLY during an event that takes place at an amusement park. Having worked the streets of both Kings Island's Haunt and most recently The Dent Schoolhouse, I can comfortably say that street monsters have it the hardest when it comes to scaring people. Unlike being in a maze where the people that come through are, 99% of the time, the ones who ACTUALLY want to walk through a haunted house, there are thousands outside the houses that may NOT want to partake in the festivities (like a certain group of enthusiasts that only go for night rides on roller coasters, not mentioning any names) and accost monsters for somehow ruining their night. Amidst all the chaos that is trying to entertain what could be 7,000+ people in an area like Coney Mall, some take to being full-on entertainers, interacting and conversing with guests while in character, compared to simply just running around and popping in and out of groups, even though that works just as well. I think the point is that not everyone is going to have the same reaction to a scare as most would expect/hope. Some think that going after the girls is just a rookie move or a fallback scare. I beg to differ; most people that don't scare easily have a blast watching other people get scared, and that's the most important part of the experience. It's to have fun, whether you're watching someone running for their life or actually running for YOUR life.

  27. Im going with intamin on this one. Ive always loved intamin because their coasters are so unique and each intamin ride is different than the next (minus the stratas, inverted impulses). With B&M, once you ride one type of their ride (invert, floorless, sit down etc.) you pretty much know what to expect from the rest. Some are longer, faster, and taller than others, but they pretty much have all the same elements. Regardless, i absolutely love both, but im gonna have to choose innovation over reliability on this one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  31. I agree Devarious, but sometimes its fun to spin the pot and see what shakes out. I really do wish for a sarcasm font.. Also, how funny would it be if they just changed the name of areas to symbols. "well lets all head over to, the fish with legs area and then maybe we can hit up the stick with 4 branches area afterwards."

  33. ^Parking lot generally isn't included in the park map, so I'd be surprised if it was featured on this one. Although, to help the less-frequent visitors, a large directional map (or even signs pointing the way) of all the parking lot subsections could be nice right outside the park, helping visitors locate their car when they leave for the day.

  39. (in response to Tuskin's "live action" post) Did someone say "live action"? Better call the Turtle Man to investigate The Bat problem in Action Zone! EDIT/NOTE: The Bat was automatically capitalized; but in this sentence, it was intended to be left un-capitalized (as in, "The Bat" I'm talking about is not necessarily referring to the ride, but the animal)

  40. I've got it!!! They are making a park map out of pavers. Lost? Check out our new "live action" park map over in Action Zone. - tusk realizes "live action" has nothing to do with a park map out of pavers. Nether the less, he felt it was a necessary statement to bring emphasis to the point of this ridiculous sarcasm. Although, he must admit a park map made out of pavers would be pretty superb.

  41. The event, as a whole, shows potential, but it's plagued by poor design and management choices that keep it from being "the most immersive horror experience around" it markets itself to be (granted, the idea of "immersion" is immediately lost when you realize you can't drastically change the surrounding environment of an amusement park midway to fit the theme of, say, a dilapidated graveyard). I think the event has gotten too big for them to adequately manage well as resources are spread way too thin over too many mazes; some look professionally well-done while others look like a third-rate backyard haunt. Size-wise compared to other park haunts, Universal is gearing up for its 24th annual Halloween Horror Nights and has only maxed out at 8 houses; meanwhile, Knott's Berry Farm has had their Haunt around for now 42 years and has 10. Kings Island's Haunt/Fest is just now reaching its 15th year of operation (technically 8th as they still refuse to acknowledge their FearFest past) and they've already gotten 11 mazes. If they downsized to, say, five or six big mazes as a part of a major overhaul of the event and worked to up the quality from there, then it'd be a bigger critical success.

  47. In all honesty, it seems that this discussion keeps going in circles. I second this inquisition. I worship God, the God of the Christians, more commonly known as Jehovah, but hey, I don't speak for the rest of the crowd. (For all I know, someone here may worship the flying spaghetti monster!)
