  1. For some reason, I find this hilarious and sad at the same time.

  2. As many of you know, I love the organization A Kid Again. A Kid Again is an amazing organization and Kings Island will be hosting the annual event on July 10. Some of the people you meet can and will change your life. July 10, 2012 was the day I met Amber and her daughter KK. These two gals changed my life. It's astounding seeing families with children facing illness that are often life threatening without complaint and with smiles on their faces. It's probably one of the most fun days you can have at the park. I don't know that I can get off work all day, but will be going at least part of the day. Amber and KK will be there and my daughter will get to meet them this time. (Plus it's Princess Sparkles actual birthday! July 10 has been a very special day for nearly 17 years!) Thank you Kings Island for your generosity for this organization. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Another thing to consider is that at one time, Beast had buzz bars and no seatbelts. I'm sure it would seem much wilder with much less holding you down. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk

  4. It seemed to me in the late 80s-early 90s that it got faster as the track heated up during the day. No idea why it would be, but it always seemed tamer in the cooler morning, or on cooler days in general. As for being faster in the past, I think we remember it that way due to lack of competition. It was faster and wilder than the other coasters I had ridden at that time. Now it has competition from things like Diamondback just within the same park. I used to find the height of the lift hill on Beast to be intimidating. I still do, sometimes. But, one day I went on Diamondback five or so times in a row before riding Beast, and the first hill of The Beast seemed quaint. I think it just takes more to thrill us as much more intense rides have been built. We're a bit jaded in a way we couldn't be in the past.

  5. Your mobile phone was able to "correct" Adventure Express's audio, so why not make it play "Right Now" at the appropriate time?

  6. It was a teen dressed as Tinkerbell, not a child. They allow children to dress up in park, but allowing adults/teens may create confusion between who is a legitimate employee working on Disney's behalf and who is just some other guest. They don't want someone who may appear to be an employee acting inappropriately, and then have people assume it is Disney's responsibility.

  8. So, I hit a video to watch a few clips and enjoy them on Youtube today, and thought of something. I compared the old Beast pre opening video to the current POV, and was actually shocked. So using the old video I'm sure everyone here has seen before tunnels were built/etc and the current released POV, I noticed quite a difference. I put the two side by side and put the camera at several points to compare timing, and was amazed by the results. It honestly seems like the old Beast that was considered wild, agressive, out of this world, and insanely fast, really wasn't at all, whatsoever. Here's what I observed: Leaving station=Current Beast much faster to lift hill engagement, old Beast seems to go quite slow here Lift Hill=Old Beast climbs much quicker then almost "stalls" at the top before crest, current setup creeps, block clears speed, then creep up top Drop/Tunnel/Turn=Old beast seems much faster down the drop and through the turn/drop, much more agressive airtime it looks here, current not bad but seems a tad slow Brake Shed=First major difference, old Beast with longer brake run length slows down quick and takes quite a hit, current slows down right at end where drive wheels were located back then. Even then current Beast seems to have more speed through here and exiting the brake shed. This is where things get surprising. Post Brake Shed-->Lift=This is where current Beast seems to dominate, it flies through the turns and tunnel(s). Old Beast post brake shed seemed sluggish, and honestly not that crazy as it always was mentioned Lift Hill #2=This was another surprising find. Old Beast seeming slower almost slows down completely on the hill w/ anti rollback ratchets (makes sense for the placement now) and then barely hits the lift hill and goes up. Current Beast, honestly I see no major reason for the rollbacks, and then it shoots up the lift hill, almost a good 1/3 or more up. Then the current itiration seems to climb quicker than old Beast. Finale/Brake Run=This was very very very close. Current Beast seemed to have more speed post Helix however and hit brakes first but barely, it's too close for me to really critisize unline the first half of the ride. New Beast was climbing lift two before old Beast even engaged the hill. So I ask everyone this, and figured open it to debate amongst us. Was Beast really that great and fast/exciting/insane? Is it moreover us being nostalgic enthusiasts as per ususal? Is it just comparing to what was out back then (it had insane laterals/distance/etc). Was it just more intense in a certain aspect. I always hear KI enthusiasts say old Beast was 10x better than today, but on POV it seems like we have a better product now than when it opened originally in these videos. Obviously I wasn't around KI all these years, so figured I'd ask y'all and those who have been here that long. One thing I did notice too lastly, Beast still had lube issues back then too. Heard the wheels squeal quite alot in sections just like it does today at times when it's not freshly lubed.

  13. Not allowing people to come to Disney Parks dressed as their characters is an interesting one. I totally understand why they do it, but I bet it happens more often than you'd think.

  14. Seriously, no one can tell. No one can tell whether the weather will be perfect or not, no one can tell whether or not the park will actually be busy or not, no one can tell if a ride is not going to operate if the wind speed is 15 mph, no one is able to tell if downtime is going to be affected by the previous weekend. As many have told you on these threads, not everything is guaranteed and the park doesn't know about things until they happen. If you have more questions about your trip on the 30th please post in one of the threads you've already created. Turning other threads into questions about your trip isn't cool.

  15. A few things I noticed today at the park: Drop Tower no longer plays Van Halen, and is officially dead to me. Banshee, while certainly not rough by any stretch, seems to be getting a bit shakier in the last few rows than it was on Media Day and the first few weeks of the season. That single pop of airtime in 7-1 on Vortex is the greatest sensation that one can experience on a roller coaster in Ohio. Possibly the world. The Bat is still awesome no matter what anyone says. My phone rang while in the tunnel on Adventure Express. My ringtone is that tunnel's audio. My phone, zipped up in the pockets of my cargo pants, produced that audio much louder than is done by the ride speakers, and that's sad. Though the ride speakers WERE working today. I rode a second time to double check. I do not have the willpower to resist blue ice cream, and my wallet hates me for it. For what it's worth, I recommend buying your blue ice cream in Planet Snoopy, as the color is actually correct there.

  20. Once I was approached at KI for wearing a shirt that had Beethoven's autograph on it. It wasn't until the guard got right up on it that he saw the concert information on the shirt. Those of you who have seen Beethoven's signature, youd'd realize thst to somoene who hasn't seen it, it looks like BS. I just turned it inside out- it was enough of a distraction to attract one guard, I didn't want a day of that.

  22. When I saw this thread's title under "recent topics" on the forum's home page, I thought it was going to be somebody ranting about getting kicked out of Kings Island and how that was "unfair" and "wrong" or some such. Glad to see it's nothing but a harmless news article.

  24. I shutdown Delirium yesterday because I reported a restraint issue. On the back swing while facing down, my restraint clicked up. On the upswing, I pulled it back down and it did it again. I would rather be accused if being a liar than something happen and knowing that I could have prevented it.Missed the Cirque show due to having to wait around for a supervisor but was able to catch it later. Very nicely done. And the video too!

  27. It kinda irritates me that Six Flags is retiring true classic wooden coasters. If they turn them in to the RMC branded coasters, I'm just ugh. I have not been on one, but it irritates me that they then stay "wooden" roller coasters.

  28. A couple women in my row after riding Banshee: Woman 1: That was even better than the first time we rode it! Woman 2: Yes, and longer! Woman 1: Much longer! Um... it's a coaster, it is the same length as it was the first time you rode it. Glad you enjoyed your ride though!

  32. If you're already dropping $320, what's 60 more bucks? I don't think the majority of people buying Fast Lane OR Fast Lane Plus are those who can barely afford it, but I could be wrong. Another possibility is that the people don't like more "extreme" rides like Firehawk and Banshee, and just opt for the Plus because of cost. But there can't be that many people that won't ride.

  33. sigh... the first drop on Vortex in the back of the train... Why'd you have to remind me of that? However, Cedar Point's Corkscrew has a great airtime hill before the loop, though not as scary being only a few stories up.

  35. I wonder if this work will put a damper on BB1's goal of riding that slide 200 times this season. Hopefully they'll have it back open by the holiday weekend; they'll likely need all the waterpark capacity they can get.

  36. I second that. Voyage 2008 and Voyage 2010 are vastly different... but Voyage 2014 and Voyage 2008.. Aside from a yellow-pine color.. aren't as different in experience. Glad I'm not the only one who makes a distinction between rough and aggressive/ violent.

  39. Glad you had fun at Holiday World! For the record, Voyage (currently) is not "rough". It is violent. Voyage used to be rough a few years ago, but massive track work has corrected that problem. Violence is characterized by quick transitions, rapid changes in forces, and other factors that throw you around in specific ways. Roughness is characterized by jackhammering, shuffling from side to side, and similar factors that just randomly shake you around. Violence is typically part of the original design, while roughness is not. I like my coasters violent. I do not like them rough.

  44. Hi, I don't know if this is the place, but I just wanted to post a bit about my visit on 6/20. I thought the crowds were rather light. I haven't been in a couple of years, but the lines seemed very manageable. We were able to get through pretty much everything we wanted to do with ease and without waiting in any long lines. The only exceptions being Firehawk and FoF which was still closed. Banshee was amazing. I think I have a new favorite. I used to go to KI several times each year, but I've grown up and have responsibilities now and don't live close enough for a quick stop by the park. So I get there maybe once every couple of years. The last couple of times I went Vortex was down. I was excited to ride it on Friday, but I've got one question for everyone... Is it that much rougher now than it used to be or am I just getting old???? I mean, I know I'm older than I used to be, but I rode Vortex and The Beast back to back and The Beast felt like I was riding on a cushion of air after that! The LaRosa's pizza in the Festhaus did not taste like LaRosa's pizza. I think that might have been the worst pizza I've ever had. I realize it is amusement park food, but when I'm looking forward to some LaRosa's and paying that much money, I expect it to at least be better than a doughy, flavorless piece of cardboard. When we ate dinner at the Reds Grille later in the day and got a much better meal for the same price, that really made me upset about my lunch. Lunch for 4 at Festhaus = $40. Dinner for 4 at Reds Grille = $46, including a beer. I'm proud to say that my 4 year old son looks like he's going to be my coaster buddy soon. He was only tall enough to ride Woodstock Express, but he loved it. It was a walk on and I think we probably rode it 8 or 10 times. We rode front row, back row and everywhere in between. He's still talking about getting to ride a "big" roller coaster. All in all, it was a great day, despite the rain shower. It seemed to help cool things down and maybe kept some of the crowds away. We'll definitely make an effort to get back for a day again next year, especially if the kids are tall enough to do more.

  45. Normally I'd want those responsible for smoking outside of designated smoking areas swiftly ejected from the park, but FoF is an exception. (Not joking, I saw a group of three people smoking in The Beast's cattlepen at night last week.) Glad to hear it's open, though. Hoping to be able to reunite with my first looper at Kings Island shortly.
