  1. I think it's safe to say that it cost more than:

  2. To be fair, I was surprised to see the floral calendar planted, with date, this evening (the clock is still empty). Usually those aren't planted until around Memorial Day, both to avoid the possibility of a hard freeze at night, and presumably to give the flowers time to grow (the date pieces in the calendar this evening looked like they had barely begun growing, which made the numbers hard to read). I think by June, they'll look much more like what we're used to.

  4. Interesting takes on the new Cedar Fair logo from design folks: http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/new_logo_for_cedar_fair.php#.VVZbG5M9nIU Having helped develop a couple of visual identity programs I also feel the new logo seems like a first round draft rather than a fully crafted finished product.

  5. Huh? Is Cedar Point now an entirely smoke-free park? Nope.....but as a courteous smoker I would appreciate designated areas and that should include something to extinguish my cigarette. There was only one of those "butt holders" at the convention center entrance. I was looking for areas to smoke that would not offend others, snuffing out my cigs on my shoe and throwing it away in a trashcan. I HATE people that just randomly flip their smokes on the ground when finished.

  7. Seems a LOT better than Guardian. Omnimover vehicles, 3D screens, physical sets, a [somewhat] discernible storyline. Masterpiece? No. Could it stand without the interactivity? No. But a fine ride. Triotech and / or Cedar Fair is learning.

  8. The Reviews are In: Voyage to the Iron Reef is great new addition to Knott's Berry Farm. Or so multiparty experts across many disciplines including theme park design, ride development, video game technology, and former Disney Imagineers, seem to agree. 9. Maybe we can try to have a KIC table when we have dinner the first day?

  10. I sure hope so. If a single B&M train costs ~$1 million, an entire S&S 4D coaster better require more than $1 million to be operational.

  11. Both parks had all of their new attractions operating on opening weekend, so they're already ahead of Hartland. Plus, I don't think we'll be seeing an article in the Sandusky Register about "hundreds" coming out to opening day at Cedar Point, so they have that going for them too.

  12. ^ I get that it's potentially an effort to make sure everybody gets one last ride (maybe two) in before closing (or even if the wait is very long) and I'm actually fine with that. I feel like I'm repeating myself from earlier posts, but what I'm not ok with is not being given the option to wait longer for front row when the total wait is ~15min and having my group of separated and forced onto different trains because of some arbitrary goal to turn around a train within a certain time.

  13. I too am very excited about the train tour. I have wanted to take it sine I first read about the one a few years ago.

  14. And violation of this fine semantic distinction along with the common use of the word "The" before an attraction subjects a guest's innocent remark in what is supposed to be the FUN atmosphere of an amusement park to inclusion in this thread? To me, THAT, not the guest's remark (with which I still agree, by the way) is worthy of this thread, as being the darnest thing. See, it fits right in. This thread itself got titled the darnest. And it is. The only thing sillier is post after post attempting to justify that Mantis was not removed. 2014. There. 2015. Gone. If not, go ride it. And TR:TR and Crypt. Enjoy Son of Beast, too. Station's still there!

  16. The Scrambler at Coney was NOT removed. It was temporarily removed while the support pieces received a fresh coat of white paint. The ride was open this past weekend for the Appalachian Festival, and will officially open with the park next weekend.

  17. Not exactly, almost 10 years later and it seems like things happened slightly different than were feared... Still going strong.... TERP you either are a really really good guesser or you may know some people in the park business.... I love the new Coke Stand... Sadly or not, IJST lasted longer than both these posters... Under new management, charm and class may be retruning, sort of... Funny, that GL was destroyed because of this deal... Well the theming did get stripped... and then the ride did... So a decade later (and new management later) how we looking? I will say that the park still has some distance to go to recapture some of the charm it had years ago. The landscaping (personally) doesnt look as great as it once did. The Floral Clock and the Floral Calendar always disappoint me. At one point they were great, last year and so far this year, nothing photo worthy.... Then again, I look at the park through my son's experiences and its one of the greatest thing on this earth.

  21. Well, don't most people use a credit card when purchasing tickets? Isn't there zip code info pertaining to those?

  22. I do not recall being asked for my ZIP code when I bought a single-day ticket at the park last July.

  23. I'll go on record and say it will be very unlikely that we'll see the inside of the fort. In all likelihood, it will be the exact same tour that KIC was honored enough to get a few years ago: board the train which will take you around to the train storage shed, where they will back the train into the shed and give you information and history of the trains & engines, with time for questions and answers. The train tour is well worth the time to take, especially if you're into trains and/or park history. I'm thrilled to get the chance to do it again! Sorry to crush your dreams. As many times as I saw that house while driving along the employee drive entrance from the time I started working at the park in 1989 until they enclosed it in the fort, I'd love to see it again today myself!

  24. I just try to plan my visits to KI when lines should be short. However, if a friend can only go on busy days, I would not be opposed to doing legal line jumping. I have done it once, and it was fun. Now, if they would just fix the food lines....haha

  25. I made an impromptu run to the park for about three and a half hours this evening and used my dining plan while I was there on a burrito at Hank's. Everything went as smooth as possible, and the cashier correctly handled both the burrito and my soft drink purchase, even asking if I wanted the chips and salsa that comes with the burrito dining plan meal (I said no thanks). Had I not had the dining plan to save that money, I probably would not have stopped at Sweet Spot on my way out and bought a five-pack of buckeyes. In general, I find that I'm still spending about the same amount of money in the park as I would if I didn't have the dining plan; it's just being spent on different things. (On another note, that was the single largest burrito I have ever seen. The trainee that prepared it packed it so full that neither she nor the supervisor training her was able to wrap the shell completely around the ingredients. I carried it around to the back porch and watched PTI and SportsCenter while I made the whole thing disappear. Burp.)

  26. And in both cases, the point is money. E tickets rationed ride experiences to those who paid, too. What your logic misses is that, especially with Fast Lane, the line skippers ride many more times than they otherwise would. If I'm in the back of the regular Banshee line (otherwise, say, 90 minutes), and the same 270 Fast Lane patrons decide to ride Banshee all day without ceasing, I will arrive in the Banshee station if and only if they do cease and are not replaced by more if, as on opening day 2014, all Fast Lane patrons are accommodated before any standby. Even if some standby are let in,, they clearly waited longer than they otherwise would have, as those Fast Lane peeps in front of them could and did ride over and over (or took up space in other ride lines when they otherwise would not) while standby waited longer and longer and longer. If a ride always has a line, and there is Fast Lane, and the line skippers ride it more than they otherwise would have, the standby people either wait longer, don't get to ride or quit coming to the park. 27. At Ride Warriors Weekend in 2009, all attendees were given free drinks both days (free drink wristbands). Obviously things are different now (different CF CEO, possibly different events/marketing people at KI, though Don is still in the same role he was in back then), but I wouldn't be surprised if we get free drinks both days this time around as well. Either way, I'd be happy just to have an event to go to. Getting a shirt, pin, two free on-ride photos and a souvenir cup on top of all that is more than generous.

  36. Originality is way better but that's not going to stop me from riding. It just means that I won't necessarily enjoy the ride as much. Nothing to complain about, of course. A day at an amusement or theme park is better than a day at work, after all. Unless, of course, you're out of work. Then, you'll be sad that you can't go to work.

  37. I'm just happy to see S&S get something out and hopefully working. I really feared for that company a few times the past few years, especially since their new merger with this new company. Hopefully seeing this ride develop and what people think of it, I hope S&S gets a few more new developments. I will say it seems very B&M inspired, especially the restraints. The brakes surprised me the most seeing almost PTC esque brakes on the track, but hey if it works and does what it needs to do, who cares.

  38. Uh huh. Next you will tell me Steel Phantom still exists. Or Texas Giant. Or Cyclone at Riverside. Or or or... Mantis IS gone.

  39. I honestly don't think it will be too bad. Even if all 400 attendees show up right at 8am, people will spread out and take advantage of all rides that are open for ERT. I plan to take advantage of Drop Tower and Delirium ERT as well since those rides typically have longer lines when they park is busy.

  40. And you have to figure wet weather cycles.
    2 points
  41. Well I figure not all 500 are going to be there for the morning ERT and some of that number will be at The Bat. So lets say we have 400 people in the queue at all times, and you get off and get back in that queue to ride again. It is going to take appropriately 11 trains to cycle about 400 people through. Assuming they are sending a train of enthusiasts out every 2 minutes that will be 45 trains sent during that ERT. Divide that by your 11 train wait, you should get 4 rides in during ERT if my math is correct.

  42. If 500 are attending then that's way too many for the IR.

  44. Rode these for a second time last night. I think after the ride yesterday I have a handle on why this set just doesn't have the same oomph as the ones at Carowinds. When you're at the top of the swing on KI's set and you swing the handle quickly to the right, the flyer doesn't actually start swinging to the left right away. There's a more noticeable delay on this set. It's almost like the flyer has to think about it for a second...and then it responds. The Carowinds set starts turning really quickly after you change the direction of the sail and that provides a quicker trip down. The quicker trip down means that the rider has a chance to get the cables to go slack which in turn causes the snap. I've seen novice riders snap the set at Carowinds. I've seen empty gliders snap at Carowinds. I've yet to see anyone snap KI's set in person, and I haven't heard the awesome "ker-chunk" sound after a snap on the KI set (although the video that BB1 posted does show someone snapping, so I retract my earlier comment about the snappability). As upstop mentioned, the short ride cycle doesn't really allow you to get going, but perhaps they'll address that later on down the line.

  47. It's not exclusive to normally single riders, but that sort of thing happens quite often. See the meetups forum here; the people who frequently participate are a rather welcoming group. It can definitely be fun to visit amusement parks with others who really enjoy them.

  48. There was a kid today on Viking Fury that told me he has a better idea for the ride theme..."Biking Fury". Instead of a boat, it would be a big bicycle. I couldn't stop laughing.

  49. Never thought I would be able to contribute to this thread so quickly. Tonight while walking the qeue to get on The Beast, two ladies were talking in front of me. One of them looks at the other and asks "how does the car change from this brown wood track over to the blue metal one?" Lol I had to laugh inside a bit.
