KI lets slip plans for 2019 exist on IG today?
robintodd replied to BruceWayneWins's topic in Kings Island
It was a unique queue system. Riders go on from the inside the circle of pods and exited by the outside of the circle of pods. There is a lot of structure there and that is one of the reasons a skyroller makes sense. I'm not sure, but I believe the same type of loading system would work nicely. -

I always thought a ride like Skyhawk (Skyroller) at Canada's Wonderland would be perfect here. -
I stand corrected.

The statue head in the commercial seems to be the same on as the idol who dumps the lava at the top of the last hill (just different lighting/colors).

Kings Island's National Blue Ice Cream Day, July 1, 2018
robintodd replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I have a bottle of the Boysenberry BBQ sauce from Knotts in my fridge now. It's fantastic! -
I'm always scratching my head at that one as well. Up at Cedar Point they allow me to stay on all the time. One morning I rode Maverick 5 times in a row because no one was in my row when the train came back in. Also had it happen at close on GateKeeper and Raptor. You would think that the more people on the coaster the better (valleying, smoother ride, etc.).

Just some quick notes on Funpix. My bought my grandson a platinum pass last year (he will be 7 this summer and we go to Cedar Point 1-2 times a year with him). When I put the funpix on his card last year (renewed it for this season) they asked if I wanted to add it to another card (seem's your allowed 2). I put it on his pass (which his mother keeps, I have him digitally on my KI app) and on mine. I find I use my physical pass on the self-serve kiosks on the ride photos, easier access. Anyway, when you go to CP this year go STRAIGHT to the funpix location where you get your pictures at the front of the park and make sure they see the funpix on your card. Mine didn't transfer and they asked for my receipt (2 months after I paid for it and the receipt was at home). Anyway after seeing the 25+ funpix pictures on my account they were convinced I had purchased it and added it to the card. So I would take your receipt showing you purchased funpix when you go up to the point, it will save you heartache later in the day. I find the funpix is the best value (I have 3 grandkids total) and had over 169 photos last year between KI and CP. My wife and I went to Knotts this year and already have 5 for this season, we did have the same problem but with the added issue that they had to give me a new platinum pass, everything transfered over just fine, the big problem was I had an "old style" platinum pass (the ones that have Kings Island on the front in big letters) and I am unable to transfer the Knotts pass back to my old Platinum. Everyone always made a comment about my "old school" pass. I asked them this week to transfer everything back, but the couldn't so I just asked for a replacement card so it at least says Kings Island on the back. Any way, don't forget Funpix lasts thorught Winterfest (the had a nice snow effect last year they gave you a copy of on the app). It's strange that I used to avoid the people taking my picture when I would go in due to not wanting to pay each time (I would claim "witness protection program" :)). But now since I have Funpix, I hunt them down each time I go Enjoy Funpix and your season!

Kings Island Announces 2018 Changes
robintodd replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Actually I noticed Rivertown potato works had poutine fries for winterfest. didn't get a chance to try them though. -
Honestly, after seeing the INCREDIBLE investment made for Winterfest I would be satisfied if we didn't get anything for 2018. Winterfest was a capital investment of monumental proportions (4 million in lights alone I was told by the Dippin' Dot's Guy). For them to put in millions of dollars for 1 month is just incredible. Granted they will get the return on investment now that most of the lights, decorations and signs have been bought, still I'm in awe of how much this must have cost to roll out not just at Kings Island, but other parks as well. That being said, 2019 should bring a coaster, and a big one
-
There are also performers from Cedar Point in the shows.

I've been going to KI since they opened and without a doubt this is the BEST I've ever seen the park! The theming is WONDERFUL and everywhere you look it's Christmas! The park has out done themselves and should be very proud they definitely have a winner on their hands with this one. I thought I would post a few observations since I visit this site every day and don't feel I ever have time to contribute enough. First let's get the negative out of the way. Mind you these are by no means "show stoppers" only suggestions that could make the event better in my opinion. I agree it did look like there were some more things to polish in the next couple of weeks and maybe some of them are included on this list. First I've been a lover of KI shows, especially pre-paramount. I took 15 years of tap and jazz and started my own community theatre which highlighted it's first season with West Side Story that I choreographed, directed and produced. Back in the day KI rivaled Disney in talent and composition. That being said I was only able to take in 1 show and that was Charlie Brown Christmas Spectacular. VERY well done, nice sets and props, all the performers were FANTASTIC and definitely up to the pre-paramount standards of the past. As in all things when something is that spectacular sometimes something sticks out like a sore thumb and it was obvious. During the section where the girls wear the blue dresses there are several times where the skirts fly up (and one where the girl in front goes spread eagle when lifted) and they have no colored "bloomers" on. They have on underwear (full underwear) and the nude tights are over them. This almost makes it look like you're seeing something you shouldn't and detracts from what is intended to be a children's themed show. I my opinion, they should have on blue leotard bottoms on (to resemble a full-covering swimsuit bottom) since there are so many "up skirt" moments in the act. Again, the performers are AMAZINGLY talented and did a FANTASTIC job, this is more a note for the costume department and only "mildly" took away from the one section of the show. I heard other people commenting on it as we left. Second, and this may be because they didn't have time, they need a height requirement and wait time sign for snow works at the entrance of the attraction (also need do be more prominent where the entrance is. In addition adding a "one or two rider line" would help out for this attraction. It takes 6 people and after watching it for 45 minutes (waiting for my grandson and sister-in-law to ride) I saw several times where only 4 people would be on the ride. The worker at the front of the line kept asking for " one or two" riders but most of the time couldn't be heard or seen or there were groups of more than one or two people. Giving people the option to ride separately would help the line greatly. Third the ice carving show (right next to the slide) is in need of narration. We waited past the start of the 7:30 ice show and all that happened was a guy came over, picked up a chainsaw and started carving ice (I think there was some music playing). The ice carving is definitely interesting and a fantastic addition and the crowd around it was huge. It would just help to have someone with a microphone explaining about ice carving (history, techniques, questions from the audience). I was told this was the first night and they were working over their jitters and plan to put something like that in place. That was the only 3 things I found to be noticeable. I would call them complaints, just room for improvement. I need to wrap this up so let me do that by saying again what a FANTASTIC job KI did and kudos to all the hard work. It is definitely the "must do" thing in the area. Todd

Went to the park yesterday and noticed that the video (as well as the picture) for Mystic Timbers now shows up on the phone app. That only took a season :).

Neal Peart is the drummer for Rush. One of the top 5 drummers to walk the planet. As far as the shed if they don't start doing random Rick-Rolls I'll be disappointed. That would be EPIC!

Went Saturday night and enjoyed FoS. My biggest complaint is using Dinosaurs Alive as the que line to get in. The first animatronic on the right was ripped at the mouth. I understand there are people who will touch/deface them in any situation. I just think that having that many people there waiting in a line, bored is an invitation to vandalize our beloved dinos. The fix seems simple enough, have the entrance line next to the exit line without entering DA at all. Lines moved well and I was overall impressed with the first weekend experience.

Since you aren't staying at the hotel, here's a little tip: When you go to the park, get in the left lane (like you're going to the hotel/Soak City. Drive around the island and park in the Soak City parking lot. There is an entrance beneath hill of Magnum. It will be a shorter walk and you will start a the back of the park while everyone else is starting at the front of the park. Hit magnum to your left and then double back to Maverick and continue through frontier town to Rougaru and Millennium force. As for next year the Breakers is cheaper early and late season and a far better option than Lighthouse Point IMO.

Nothing better than Cedar Point on the final weekend. My wife and I go up every year and stay at the Breakers (same room every year, we have a revolving reservation). Anyway, I can speak from experience the BEST time to ride is Friday. They don't open until 6 (I believe hotel guests get in an hour early) and not many people are there from 6 till close. Nice time to ride, ride, ride. I have found myself on Raptor for a solid half hour (never getting off) on many a Friday night the last weekend. If you're staying at the Breakers, I would suggest buying or taking a cheap coffee maker, there are none in the rooms (Sandcastle does have coffee makers in the rooms). My wife and I also make sure we pack coffee cups with lids and have a bottle of cream for the coffee (Irish Crème, that is ). Always a great way to start the morning when it's a little brisk outside (or to continue throughout the day for that matter!). Saturday will be BUSY. That's the day my wife and I usually watch shows (catch the one at the Red Garder Saloon, it's always fantastic), and go to haunts at night. The indoor haunts open earlier than the outdoor haunts. The second best time to ride is Sunday (not many people pay full price for part of the day, just like Friday). However looks like you will be going to Kings Island for Sunday. Be warned I believe NONE of the haunts will be open on Sunday at KI since they close at 7pm. Make sure to prepare for the CP weather, I've had it snow on us the last weekend in October before (it sleeted the second weekend this year!). Take a hoodie and jeans just in case. The weather on the peninsula is usually about 5 degrees colder than forecast for Sandusky. Also that late in October keep an eye on the winds. Some rides don't run in the wind so plan accordingly. Finally if you're lucky you'll have bad weather one night. Yes, I said BAD weather. The reason I say this is because one year my wife and I went up and Friday was cold and windy with a slight drizzle. All the outdoor scare zones (which are walk-thru and awesome) were closed however, since there was a new indoor maze (hexed) I talked my wife into going through it. We were the ONLY ones in line (walk-on) and every employee that was scheduled to work the outdoor haunts were working the indoor houses (twice as many scareactors in every house). It was AWESOME. My wife and I were literally the only guests in the house and it made it very enjoyable considering they got to 'set up' the next room for us. The employees were pretty bored and willing to jump out and put in an extra effort for those that braved the weather. Needless to say my wife and I decided to go through EVERY indoor haunt that night and it was well worth it. Sometimes bad weather can be a great thing. Sales will be EVERYWHERE. Candy is a pretty good deal in the Frontier town shops that weekend and you can usually find a good deal on 2016 shirts as well. Hope you have a fantastic time, as I stated in the beginning it is the absolute best place to celebrate the end of season. Cedar Point really pours it on for Halloween and I've always found their customer service to be second to none. Have a great time and RIDE ON!!!!

Decoding Episode 2.5: BONUS ROUND! Second Announcement!
robintodd replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Complete agreement. Carowinds has had the attraction to see it's popularity and work the bugs out. It is in a building that is exactly like Action Theatre back by The Racer. They could work on it during the winter (if they haven't started already) because it's an indoor attraction. My only question would be is how much of the building is being used for urgent scare? I'm assuming just the right half is the haunted house leaving the left side open for the new ride. -
Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
robintodd replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Pumps need to get rebuilt from time to time. They are likely the same pumps just taken apart and rebuilt. Each attraction would feature its own set of pumps so that they are independent of each other. It is important to keep attractions separate for maintenance, safety, and just general operations. Invertigo would likely be moved to a smaller park, likely Michigan's Adventure which does not have a boomerang. Invertigo has very low capacity and another copy of the ride was moved from California's Great America to Dorney Park in 2010. The mention of moving/removing Invertigo makes me think that maybe we will be seeing a new coaster around/over the entrance similar to Carowinds and Cedar Fair (3 of Cedar Point's entrances now have coasters going over them. -
Just had a thought..... I'm wondering if the island (where the tree and bushes have been planted) will feature The Peanuts Gang in shrubbery form. That'd be a great touch! I agree, plus I find it possible considering Cedar Point has the same thing.

Carowinds 2016 Announcemnt & an recently old friend from Cirque
robintodd replied to robintodd's topic in Kings Island
I'm well aware the show has been there. Actually I have seen the show over 30 times in the last two years (my grandson LOVES it). It's the best show they've had in that theatre since Celebration ('82-'83 I believe, I still have the LP) and Gotta Dance('84 - '85). It will be interesting to see what they do next year. I've always wanted them to bring back a version of the Celebration show. Robintodd, who's feeing old...... -
I know this isn't "KI" news but for some reason I couldn't post in the KIC Forum so this may need to be moved but Carowinds just held their announcement recently and sees as though their waterpark is getting some love as well. More interestingly is the new show they are getting called...Cirque Imagine! Here is a link to the video which includes an recently old friend at the end showing off with a ring.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFao-TqJbUo Enjoy!

Changes to 2015 dining plans (Update: not happening)
robintodd replied to malem's topic in Kings Island
Seeing as they are doing this during "peak" times I wonder if you have to check out within the predetermined time, or just be in line . The later would be almost impossible but the former would depend upon how many people are in line and how fast the line moves. You could get in line with 20 minutes left and check out 30 minutes later, thus having to pay. Seems like someone didn't think this through. It would seem better to offer off-peak hours for the dining plans. It would keep the lines down during peak hours. If a regular non-dining plan user sees a large line at mealtime they may decide to leave the park to go to the arches or bells or skip it entirely. However if the dining plan was used off-hours the lines during peak times would be shorter for those guests who don't frequent the park as much and food would have to be made on a more regular basis throughout the day to keep with the demand. I expect this to change once the season opens if not sooner. The bait and switch thing is kind of wrong, especially to the people who support you the most. I would think anyone who purchases season passes and dining plans up-front would be treated better. Just my thoughts.
