I want to say Six Flags stopped doing it a few years ago... I want to say it all disappeared by 2018. I could be wrong. If not then, then definitely by 2019. I'm still entertained and confused by some of Six Flags's ride choices for VR. Ninja at SFStL? Mind Eraser at SFA? You just blindfolded an innocent bystander and threw them in a pro boxing match. I don't agree with the anti-Six Flags bias the coaster nerd world has had for decades, but this is one where Cedar Fair definitively had a better execution.

We seem to have a couple threads like this, but this is the one that seems to be getting the most attention. Reposting what I said in one of the others: In general, I thought this season as a whole was fantastic and one of the best in the 14 years I've been a passholder as an adult. The park was in peak performance this year, and I absolutely loved it and love where we're heading. The announcement of Adventure Port has to be up there for me. I can't begin to describe the joy it brings me to see KI move closer to being a theme park. On a smaller note, one of my favorite personal moments this year was participating (and placing second in) the 50th anniversary art contest back in May. I don't typically do art for anything other than my own satisfaction, and it felt amazing to put the work in and see it pay off. Getting to participate in the signing event and meet park staff was one of the coolest things I've gotten to do at the park!

You sure? I'll pay you $11,000!

Kings Island 2022 Regular Season Best Moment's

Ranking the ones I've been on... 1. Adventure Express 2. The Bat 3. Mystic Timbers 4. Racer 5. Flight of Fear 6. Backlot Stunt Coaster 7. Beast 8. Banshee 9. Orion 10. Vortex 11. Firehawk 12. Diamondback 13. Woodstock Express 14. Invertigo 15. Son of Beast 16. Scooby's Ghoster Coaster Flying Ace Aerial Chase and Great Pumpkin Coaster aren't ranked because they aren't bad rides, but they aren't really part of my KI visits ever.

Kings Island Announces Adventure Port for 2023

I consider Coney Mall to be two sections. Do you?
TombRaiderFTW replied to SonofBaconator's topic in KI Polls
I can understand that. The difference between the front and back halves of Coney Mall was less pronounced pre-Kings Mills Antique Autos and arguably pre-WindSeeker, in my opinion. I really like the look of KMAA and the look of the Killmart building during the regular season, but when you toss in the removal of Vortex, it kinda makes that area feel half-finished and disconnected from the rest of Coney Mall. I would love to see something be done that brings the rest of that end (or Coney as a whole) into the vibe that KMAA and Killmart have. -
Kings Island Announces Adventure Port for 2023
TombRaiderFTW replied to Coasterteam's topic in Kings Island
Listen, Kings Island. You might be new around these parts, but there's this little thing we like to call the Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not mess with Adventure Express, or now you will pay. ...And I think I have a lot of faith that Adventure Express is going to be in top shape next year. I'm over the moon about this. I can't wait for next year. -
^ WAS it 2007? I really thought all the de-Paramounting happened for the 2008 season.
-
Sigh. They just HAD to go and release an Adventure Express pin, didn't they... Now I have to buy one, you monsters.
-
Agreed. I could be wrong, but wouldn't a park remove the lift chain before doing that kind of thing? I have to imagine that's storm damage. I like Grizzly a lot. I hope everyone was okay and they're able to get it repaired quickly.
-
It has on multiple occasions. The time I'm familiar with was closing weekend 2014. It was like Haunt, but it very lightly snowed and some of the rides were closed.
-
It was my assumption that we won't see anything from the Paramount years. That being said, if the park somehow comes through with some Tomb Raider: The Ride pins, I would absolutely die happy.
-
Summarizing this thread: Orion13: Maybe our hinted roller [coaster]? BoddaH: Meh, old Haunt rock.
-
Sounds like exactly the sort of thing you'd say if there was Mohr to this story.
-
^ Yep! Can confirm it was torn down before the start of the 2009 season. I started going to the park as an adult in 2008 and remember being curious about that theater... and then they tore it down the next year. EDIT: Just realized I already replied to this thread and was unsure about the Omnimax theater. Guess I had a moment of clarity?

The annual retelling of the sinking of the S.S. Gator was one of my favorite traditions here for years. Where will you go to have a pedal boat sink in a lazy river with your family aboard now, @XGatorHead 8904?! This is one of those things that doesn't really affect me but I'm still sad to see it happen. I never went to The Beach since I'm not the biggest swimmer, but all the same, part of my experience of going to Kings Island for many years involved driving past The Beach and seeing people having fun.

Discussing Land and Space in and around Vortex
TombRaiderFTW replied to Klabergian Empire's topic in Kings Island
I don't have vivid memories of riding Racer backwards, but I've ridden other coasters (namely, Batman: The Ride and Viper, both at Six Flags Great America) backwards since then, and yeah... It was kind of miserable. I have to agree. -
I agree with @standbyme. As far as the actors go, there aren't "scarier houses" and "less scary houses." It really depends on who is working when. What DOES change from house to house is things like gore, lighting, or the particular fear(s) that the house is attempting to play on. Slaughterhouse is very gory but decently well-lit and is themed to cannibalistic butchers. There are parts of it where, with the right actors, you can have people approaching you on multiple sides--but again, that depends on how it's staffed. Madame Fatale's Cavern of Terror is darker, which can make it harder to see what's a person and what's a prop, but it's not particularly gory. It's themed to a wax museum whose owner has a dark secret (the displays are made from real people!) Cornered, at least in previous years, has been a dark, outdoor path lined with corn on both sides, and the actors are typically dressed to blend in very well with their surroundings. I believe the story behind it is that scarecrows are coming to life and want revenge. I would argue that the set pieces for this one don't really prime it to be super intense (there is zero blood--it's just corn), but again, it depends on who is working. It's moving to a new location within the park this year, and it's unclear what changes (if any) will be made to it with its move to Action Zone. I'm not as familiar with C.H.A.O.S., but I don't recall it being particularly gory or dark. KillMart is on the darker, gorier side (though not as dark as Madame Fatale's and not as gory as Slaughterhouse.) In that one, you are wandering a supermarket that has been overrun by zombies. In my experience, when KillMart is staffed by the right people, they can find very inconspicuous places to hide to get great scares... but that hasn't happened for me very often over the years. Hotel St. Michelle is new this year, so your guess is a good as mine for what to expect! I hope you and your friends have a fun time!

Having Haunt attractions themed to recent tragedies has never worked in the park's favor. KI is a business. There is a point where "edgy" is too much and becomes tactless for consumers of the park. Also, not sure if you heard, but there was a big medical crisis the last couple years that has become extremely politically charged and led to over a million people dying, so perhaps having a haunted house themed to a medical crisis in a hospital is a particularly tactless idea in 2022. Especially for the kind of amusement park event where there have been nationwide issues over the years with violent guests.
-
Do we know that Urgent Scare is still standing? And if it is, are we sure the park would WANT to have a hospital-themed maze after the last two years? At any rate, I believe the park should be announcing Haunt details within the next few weeks. I haven't heard anything, but maybe someone else has.

What is on your Made to Thrill poster wish list?
TombRaiderFTW replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Oh man. I forgot about that thread. That was one of the best moments of this site. It's too bad that tinyPic no longer keeps pictures indefinitely, because a lot of gems were lost to the sands of time. -

Oh! I misunderstood. You're absolutely right. Perhaps that's the thing I'm not taking into account here when expecting how many of these things will sell.
