  1. Wait....you mean Don isn't the King? I swore he was.
  2. I got the 7 new/refurbished rides from: http://www.wdrb.com/story/27848523/ky-tourism-dept-considering-kentucky-kingdoms-request-for-financial-incentives?clienttype=generic&smartdevicecgbypass And yes...that banner screams 70s Retro! You're not old...just seasoned.
  3. As staff that deals directly with parks Marketing/PR and Group Sales departments, I can confirm that Cedar Point has discontinued it's relationship with Coaster Crew and other Coaster Clubs. We were not given an exact reason and we respect the park for doing so, with hopes that we are added back some day soon. Whether or not Cedar Point decides to add us to the list for CoasterMania for the 2015 year, that is unknown to us. If they do, that'd be a huge surprise. But as of 1/15/2015, Coaster Crew is not an authorized Coaster Club for CoasterMania.
  4. I'm sorry if I missed it, but in the article it says, 4 new rides and 3 renovated. The things I'm seeing as advertised as "new/renovated" for 2015 are T3, Cyclos, Raging Rapids River Ride, Skycatcher and Enterprise. Have they announced 2 new attractions that I am missing?
  5. I am a part of The Coaster Crew....actually on staff. Working currently on bringing a huge list (hopefully) of discounts at parks across the United States as well as some local area attractions!
  6. Quite interesting. I wouldn't mind a Dive Coaster...I've never been on one.
  7. I am against this idea. As many of you have stated, I can only imagine the amount of people from those developments that would complain about the noise. When Diamondback was built and even in 2010, the park had got complaints, from the development behind the park. that the coaster was too loud in the morning when testing (because of the air horn) and at night after dark. I have heard complaints from a development about 10 minutes away from the park about the nightly fireworks. I can only imagine what those people in the complex would think when they heard Banshee's cry every cycle. IMHO I highly doubt that those who actually will be able to afford rent there, will visit the park often, even if they do, they'll go home to eat a meal, spend the least amount of cash as possible due to proximity. I honestly don't see the proposed idea as a good thing for the park. I would honestly like to see employee housing on that land. While a lot of people live close enough to the park to commute, having the option to stay, some I'm sure would rather live by the park(not at your parents house, on campus or pay a fortune for rent at an apartment semi-close). Employee housing at Cedar Point is fairly cheap for employees to stay (not the absolute best conditions) but it's something. I know when I worked at the park, I had generally a 30-45 minute commute every morning. I would have rather had the option to roll out of bed, cross the street, clock in and go to work. Employee housing would have, in my opinion, higher benefits than that of a luxury apartment complex.
  8. I hate that if you are against something religious, you are automatically labeled a liberal. I hate that if you are against something socially you are an intolerant conservative. My only opinion/stance on the tax break thing is....if you want a tax break, in a state where people pay taxes with the local and state governments, you have to be willing to hire anyone legally allowed to work in that city/state. Why should money that people pay to the governments have to go toward a business that wouldn't hire them if they don't meet their social/religious status? It's a sticky situation, a lot of which I do not know the actual law about, but I wanted to give my opinion.
  9. A bridge works for Canada's Wonderland over the fountain. Now, it isn't located in the middle (which would be nice to connect two sections) but it's located closer to the mountain. Still helpful with traffic flow, instead of making guests walk all the way around he mountain to get to the other side.
  10. I get that. As I said in my original post, in my speculation, the incident seems to be caused by the employee, not the park in my opinion. Again, to me it seems like the employee didn't take the initiative to take a drink of water, step out from the area with the heat source, step into a shaded area, even for a minute. Seasonal employers shouldn't have to ensure the safety of their employees? I'm sure that the matters in the OSHA report will receive more attention industry-wide. The fine amount is trivial for the park. From a PR standpoint, they certainly don't want to get fined again. Now I did not say that. I said they seem silly. As far as OSHA, I know for a fact, they look for the tiniest things, to try to prove an employer is at fault. My father who has worked for a company that has had numerous visits from OSHA on violations, has been there when they are visiting. He has seen them, try to fine the company for using the wrong type of screws in a door frame, that may cause an employee to scratch themselves. Their citing is silly often times. They don't account for an error on the account of the one who was injured. In the example from my dad's job, they tried to fine the company for someone who walked through the doorway and was too close to the frame and scraped themselves. They examine everything with a fine tooth, to find fault at the companies expense, hardly the one injured. Remember when Disneyland came into the spotlight at Disneyland, because an employee did not properly shackle himself to the outside of Space Mountain, he shackled himself to an unapproved anchor point. He ended up falling off of the ride exterior into a wall. Again, I'm not saying that safety standards are not important for employers to follow. I'm just saying that citing an employer such as Dorney Park/Cedar Fair with violations that are most likely caused by the employee is silly. But, who really knows....none of us were actually there when the incident happened. Anything at this point is pure speculation until the final report comes out.
  11. Okay....so this reminds me of the alleged "Banshee crew is not allowed to have water" in one of the threads early in the 2014 season. Reading the article, I see what OSHA says there has to be: Cedar Fair allows each and every ride/attraction/food stall/office/store/etc. to have access to water. So that couldn't be a part of the issue. What gets me, is that OSHA claims in an odd wording, that the employee was placed in a heat hazard environment, which could be due to the fact that they were working in direct sunlight or working in a small building with a heat source such as a fryer, which is a violation of OSHA standards. I would think that any violations in food stalls would have to be cleared okay by the health department prior to the park opening for the year. Now I know the health department doesn't necessarily work on building codes and zoning (for size) but if they see any hazards for the customers or employees, it should be their responsibility to report it. How long has the food stand been in existence without incident previously? Why is this just now an issue? I feel sorry for the employee who suffered the burns. OSHA standards to me are silly for temporary/seasonal employment. While I understand their general purpose of protecting the employees, I disagree with fines for citations when the employees are temporary/seasonal, where their wok environment is explained in detail, including weather, work space, heat, etc. In my experience with working under Cedar Fair, employees know the dangers associated with their jobs, so for OSHA to issue a citation on seasonal/temporary employment at an amusement park that operates, in various forms of weather (cold, hot, rainy, snowy, sunny, etc.) through a 6-8 month period, is incredibly trivial. I am okay with fines when serious violations happen, but from what I understand, the employee collapsed due to heat, working in food service at an amusement park in which they knew the hazards associated with the job, it seems that the burns were minor and the employee (in my speculation) doesn't want to say it was their fault for not staying hydrated, not for reporting they weren't feeling well, etc. Post was written in pure speculation, other than how Cedar Fair, explains the work environment and does provide water throughout shifts. Otherwise, I may not know what I'm talking about in the idea of the OSHA citation and I'm okay to admit that.
  12. I don't know if I'd cross the entire company off your list to patronize. Just that specific location. I am not planning to go back to that location until I've heard better from it, or it moves to a different location in town. The one we recently found, absolutely wonderful in service, building and in food quality (not listed in any particular order). I also typically look at reviews of restaurants before I go into somewhere new. If they have one or two little complaints, it's usually people who made their visit bad by their attitude, unwillingness to acknowledge that the customer isn't always right or just want something free. If the good out weighs the bad, I'm game for going. If it's the opposite, I won't go. I'd say give them a try Terpy! Just check out the reviews of a location that you possibly may visit first!
  13. I love Roosters! In my opinion, it is one of the best places to get wings. I have two within 20-30 minutes from each other depending on traffic, within reach of my house. The one specifically in my town, sucks. The food is typically undercooked and the building is way to small for that type of restaurant. I have two screen shots of the building from Google Maps to share with you. The first is from the front of the building. Some of you may recognize the style of the building from Frisch's Big Boy. This was Frisch's up until the early 90s. The building was converted from the Frisch's style "diner" to a casual wing joint. As you can see the building is not very wide at all. The second screen shot is looking at the side of the restaurant. The actual seating of the restaurant goes as deep as the out door patio does, to the left of this screenshot. Inside of the restaurant, they have a bar in the main (and only room). A restroom is located on the opposite side of the building, one in each entrance (two entrances, meeting in a common area, that meets a glass door to the main room). A small waiting area is located inside the main room. When seated you are asked to follow the server between tables that are so close that you have to turn to the side to walk through to your table. Seating Capacity, I guesstimate is around 120, which isn't terribly low, but in such a small restaurant, it is hard to have a conversation with the people at your table with the noise of the music playing on the system, the bar crowd talking (usually inebriated) and on top of the multiple TVs in the building. I've only been this location once on a weekend and I will never go back. We recently found the other location and it is located inside of a strip mall. There are 4 areas for seating plus a bar that isn't right up against any of the other sections. This location is incredibly open and quiet, even when major NFL games are happening on Sundays (we usually visit after church and the place is usually busy). The food is always hot and fresh. The wings are always well covered in sauce that is never watered down or "buttery." The service is absolutely amazing and we continue to visit every couple of weeks. As far as Quaker Steak and Lube. I have never ate at a location, but have been in one. Inside and outside of the building was visually impressive. Very busy but it allowed for me to look at multiple things and not get bored with what I was looking at. However, we sat down after being told to find a seat wherever you like, we looked at the menus on the table. The descriptions left both myself and my friend with tons of questions. After about 20 minutes of never being acknowledge by the wait staff, although they had passed us numerous times, we never spoke with a Quaker Steak and Lube employee other than the one telling us to find our seat. I was incredibly disappointed, because they weren't terribly busy. We decided to just go ahead and leave. I had really looked forward to trying them out, but didn't get the chance to that evening. I haven't been to a Quaker Steak and Lube since....of course there isn't one too incredibly close to me either. Maybe one day I will.
  14. I will be doing this event for the 4th year! I really enjoy doing the event at Kings Island, so I'm certain I will do it back at KI in 2015! Not to mention the park really does go all out for participants!
  15. I voted on my first impression. So I voted for Tomb Raider: The Ride. That ride was my favorite in the park from 2002-2005 or so. I absolutely loved it. The show that it was released with, was amazing. To later work on the ride (The Crypt) though it wasn't the same ride as it formerly was, was a highlight for me!
  16. The area in question, is where the fireworks are shot off for display.
  17. I've been on both. Intamin's in general are more intense. B&M Giga coasters are a lot of fun though. I can't pick a favorite from either. As far as floater air, Leviathan has a ton in my opinion. I have a feeling Fury will be the same.
  18. My big question about this coaster, is how in the world are they going to check the track every day? The structure doesn't look accommodating for safety rigging.
  19. They will be like these.. but with, from the rendering, yellow cars that look somewhat space-like. That is, hands down, the most awkward video I've ever seen. I don't know what makes it awkward, the music, the fact that it looks like they set it up in the middle of a field or the fact that there is literally nothing but the ride carriage showing. Interesting.
  20. Absolutely acceptable. Each person poops, probably vomits at least once or twice in their life, urinates, this park just chooses to portray that. I have no issue with it. However, parents have to decide what is acceptable for their family and what is not acceptable.
  21. You are right, it is the scariest haunted house of all....you should work there
