Dorney's Thunderhawk to Get a Facelift
MDMC01 replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Don't forget Dorney also has that terrifyingly wonderful Hawk 48! -
Cedar Point 2016 Talk
MDMC01 replied to Bansheeback's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
So, I looked on Bing maps and STR is nowhere near Challenge Karts/Skyscraper. Wonder what will be put in either location? I also noticed that TTD's straight sections take up a ton of space! -
Yup, another coaster being demo'd, and a Y2K coaster at that! Though I've never ridden it, I took a virtual ride via Youtube and it looked fun; layout was like a combination of Son of Beast and Mean Streak. Article here: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/attractions/fl-roller-coaster-torn-down-20160219-story.html. I was going to post this in the Random Discussion Thread, but I thought that merited its own thread. Also, reality company says the demo will be "a celebration" because progress.. really? Has anyone ridden this? Any thoughts on the decision?

When you are constantly watching POV videos and coaster music videos, no matter what the park. I think it's more of a realization that this is a symptom of the off season then a conscious decision, as in: oh, I miss KI, so I'm going to watch POVs and coaster music videos all day... ;it's more like someone might say "He's been watching a lot of POVs lately, I guess he really misses the park", if that makes sense
-
Yeah, I thought that was Ryan too lol.. Anyway, I got Vortex. And on the music question, I chose heavy metal because it most closely resembled a genre I listen to (rock).

Just looked at last year's response, and I'd have to add one song that made 2015 special, and I think a lot of us have heard it at least once... Ants- EDit This is the song that played when Shannon and Evelyn (trapeze act) took the stage for Cirque Imagine.

Haven't updated this status in a while lol... now there are 58 days left until KI opens for 2016- I would love my first ride of the season to be The Bat!
I miss it so much

Like others have said, plan but don't overplan. When I went to Hershey/Dorney last year, I had rides I wanted to ride (especially new coaster credits to get!) but I often stopped to smell the roses, which lead to some unexpected surprises along the way (such as ZooAmerica at Hershey and Chickies and Petes/Dinosaurs Alive/Wildwater Kingdom at Dorney). My recommendations: -Get to X-Base first and get FOF/Firehawk out of the way -Then do everything else, though you may want to hit the Coney flats early (Scrambler, Dodgems, etc.) and Woodstock's Gliders as they develop long lines at Saturdays. -Also, make sure to buy Skyflier/Slingshot tickets early at the beginning of the day -Please ride The Bat; it is seriously underrated! -Good night rides include: Beast, Adventure Express, Vortex, WindSeeker. -Have Fun!

California's Great America Winterfest 2016
MDMC01 replied to Creed Bratton's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I feel like the success of the #SB50 Fan Fair had a little something to do with this.... according to Twitter, Celebration Swings, Gold Striker and more were open as the Super Bowl Fan Fair. -
I have 2 favorites; the Skittles one with Steven Tyler (that made me ) and the #Pokemon20 commercial, because it was so epic (and I'm a huge Pokemon fan!). In general, I thought there were a lot of unusual sponsors... Apartments.com, Advil, Paypal, Pursil (basically Windex, but a different brand), etc. Even thought I'm a huge Pokemon fan, I feel like that was an unusual sponsor as well (although, they are celebrating 20 years, so..)

Oh, I know it's long gone, trust me! However, when/if I ever get to Japan, I'd love to ride Dodonpa, just to see what I missed.

That KI/KD I-Street comparison picture makes it look like KD's International Street is much wider than KI's. This is but another reason why I'd love to go back to Kings Dominion someday. -MDMC, who wants to explore a Crypt and ride the orange (formally yellow) rails of a Y2K coaster, in addition to enjoying a space-age clone and exploring the right side of the park (seriously, I haven't been on any of KD's wooden coasters and only got to watch Hypersonic!).

Can someone explain the loops on coasters with loops at Kings Island?
MDMC01 replied to Blackhole6670's topic in Kings Island
I don't really have a favorite inversion, per say, but I do Banshee's barrel roll (as the only other coaster I've experienced this element on is Volcano: The Blast Coaster back in '01) and Firehawk's loop. -

MDMC01 replied to Blackhole6670's topic in Kings Island
Good explanation bkroz! As for the actual inversions the coasters themselves contain, the breakdown is as follows (* denotes 2 inversions in one element): Banshee (7): Dive loop (Barrel roll meets a giant half loop) Loop Zero-G Roll (Basically a barrel roll meets an airtime hill) *Batwing (technically called a Pretzel Knot, when a corkscrew + half loop meets a half loop+ corkscrew, but they cross over each other) Loop Barrel Roll Firehawk (4 or 7, depending on what you consider an inversion ): Lie-to Fly (when you roll into the flying position) Fly-to-Lie (when you go from flying position to lying down Loop Lie to Fly Barrel Roll Barrel Roll Fly to Lie Flight of Fear (4): *Cobra Roll ((Half loop + corkscrew) + (corkscrew +Half loop)) Sidewinder (Half loop + corkscrew) Corkscrew Invertigo (6) *Cobra Roll Loop Loop (other way) *Cobra Roll (other way) Vortex (6): -Loop -Loop -Corkscrew -Corkscrew -*Batwing ((corkscrew+half loop) + (half loop + corkscrew) -
Cedar Point 2016 Talk
MDMC01 replied to Bansheeback's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Um, well... ok. I rode STR once and it was ok. I saw the separate Shoot the Rapids thread and I thought oh, yeah, it's being demo'd, but I was genuinely shocked to find that was not my imagination, but that it's actually happening! Lots of space to work with Cedar Point... game on for 2017/2018/2019? A dark ride or wooden coaster would work great here -
Good stuff; bkroz. I never thought of Cedar Point's layout as straight midways until the article. Also, I remember Tomb Raider and not knowing what it was, and even enjoying The Crypt, despite it being a shell of what it once was. Oddly enough, TR:TR/The Crypt is the only Top Spin I've ever been on. I feel like that'll change in May when I brave King Chaos at Six Flags Great America.

I thought of a cool idea... make a launched wing coaster (or another launched coaster) with a station and the first part set in a futuristic lab, and then if DA were to get the axe, have it go in the forest to display how the "creature" would do in a natural setting (or it could escape from the lab). If the coaster had a lift instead (I'm thinking a Mega-lite or a Wing coaster for this example), have the thing be set free from the lab to a natural environment, slowly rolling out of the station and cautious of it's new surroundings. Just my thoughts!

Good stuff so far. I know you never got to ride Mantis (Rougarou in it's original form), but let's just say that was an interesting coaster. Also, totally agree on Maverick- it is my favorite coaster ever!

Dollywood/Carowinds Trip: Advice, please!
MDMC01 replied to BeeastFarmer's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I plan on waiting it out for Nighthawk, no matter what the line! Pertaining to the topic, I've been to Carowinds twice and will be celebrating my 100th coaster there this summer. The first time I went, I rode about half the coasters. I remember enjoying Afterburn, Hurler and Cyclone. I also rode Goldrusher and Thunder Road (forwards). The second time I went, the only credit was Reptar (now Flying Ace Aerial Chase) as I was going through a weird phase where I didn't like coasters with lift hills. When I plan to go this summer, I def. plan on getting on Nighthawk as my 100th coaster and I'd like to give Vortex, Fury, and their Drop Tower a try. As for hotels, my family and I stayed pretty close to the park and I could see the park from our third floor room. -
I imagine that WWC is still going to be closed during Haunt, as it has been in the past D'oh! You are correct sir!
-
I rode Chaos at CP before it ended it's run; it was pretty unique and the constant pitching back and forth reminded me of KI's Slingshot.

A millennium is any arbitrary period of 1,000 years. So 2000 started a new millennium. 2001 also started a new millennium. Tomorrow will also start a new millennium. Consider it a fiscal millennium, if you will. Ah, that makes sense! So, both sides were technically right, I suppose.
-
...Such as in the year 2000, when the real start of the new millennium came in 2001 (I think? ) Well, I don't care, both years were mostly awesome!
-
That could cause a bottleneck during Haunt (assuming Madame Fatale still has her cavern of terror!), but during the other times of the year, I could see using the old Crypt's exit as WWC's exit as being fine.
