  1. It is interesting in that most of the complaints that have made the news, as well as many complaints on social media, have that same theme of parents mad they now cannot drop their kids off at KI. And many of them readily admit the adults in the family do not have passes and now they want refunds. When Kentucky Kingdom implemented their chaperone policy 2021, they basically said they are not a daycare and if that was your intent, you had like two weeks to request a refund, which they provided. So how can KI assure families don't do this in the future - watch them implement a new requirement that any passholder under the age of 16 must have an adult at the same address issued a pass as well. Obviously that doesn't fix anything other than putting a family on notice that KI is not a daycare and having your under age 16 children passes without an adult having a pass will not be allowed. Anybody remember when KI had the family pass? Might be the only way for a minor to get a pass moving forward if this policy doesn't accomplish what CF hopes it accomplishes. Sadly I have kids that were not even 13 dropped off at the park for the day while the parents work or socialize or whatever they did...load the pass up with meal and drink plan and cheaper than a sitter...one set of siblings I would see at the park quite often and they were well behaved and went through food lines and got their food and the two would eat together, but never saw a parent...they looked maybe 10 and 8 and that was being generous. Maybe they were small for their age LOL.
  2. +1 above! I have said it before and will say it again LOL: People can say all they want about Kentucky Kingdom, but when they put out a statement like this and gets media attention, it stops or the incident rate drops off tremendously...Will we ever see CF post a pic of a banned person and say don't be like him LOL... https://www.wave3.com/story/35658459/kentucky-kingdom-shares-photo-of-now-banned-coaster-rider-with-his-phone/ And they also need to improve their accountability. A ban is useless if they allow anyone to purchase a pass and use a fake name... https://www.wlwt.com/article/fake-name-on-gold-pass-leads-to-charges-being-dropped-in-kings-island-brawl/36623191# Now granted the KK incident above is from 2017 and you can find incidents there in 20 and 21, so of course there is always a bad apple that doesn't care - look how many laws are broken daily! Despite how stringent rules or laws or regulations are, there will always be that person that doesn't care. But It took 3 years for a serious enough incident to happen to make the news.... and most of us would file that under the results of the COVID shutdown and most of the population forgetting how to interact in public. But as long as there are ZERO consequences, whether it be line jumping, smoking, fighting, it will continue to get worse. Publicly announced consequences will be a deterrent to all but the worse offenders. Who knows how many more instances KK would have had without public shaming.... And yet we get a couple news stories a season about fights and fair amount of other issues like vaping in line and line jumping on social media at KI and the stories never conclude as to what the outcome was (ban, etc.). Until a large percentage of the park going population see that there are consequences, it will continue.
  3. Increase in Prestige pass sales so chaperones can all congregate in one spot. There will be a direct link to security so the attendant can call you by name when their kid gets stopped. Full bar coming too
  4. I'm holding out for the "I'm a chaperone" pin
  5. Like many things, they aren't going to give official numbers like X number of security calls prior and Y calls after policy. They must feel they are effective to have had them be implemented over a several year period at other parks. It still won't stop everything, but it lets people know that the park is basically going to be in enforcement mode and watching things closer, so usually the up-to-no-good will then find another place to wreak havoc that won't be so heavy handed with security.
  6. That is the age-old argument about at what age can the government allow you to drive, drink, smoke, join military, etc. Those are different (are basically your rights) and affect everyone. Unfortunately every law or policy was created due to the actions of a few that ruin it for everyone else. If everyone behaved and did what was inherently right, there would be no need or a lot less need for many laws or policies or police. This is a private business and an amusement park is not a right or a given, so they can implement whatever legally allowed policy they want. As a consumer, you can chose to spend your discretionary income there or elsewhere. The park believes that any lost revenue due to the policy will be offset by increased revenue due to guests coming that are in favor of said policy. In your case you will be fine. This policy puts guests on notice that you can be stopped by security based on perceived age and if a chaperone is not in the park, they can eject you solely based on that whereas previously you had to be caught doing something against park policy. I suspect two teens minding their own business and simply walking around and not looking like they are causing trouble will be ignored by security. Contrast that to a group of kids that are pushing or shoving or throwing ice or popcorn at each other or running or anything else that draws attention to them - that group will be stopped and questioned. Why do you think it is 15 and under LOL (although some positions are available for 15 year olds). This used to happen in Planet Snoopy all the time on some of the rides where if a person was under a certain height, they had to be accompanied by an adult. So the 15 year old parent with a 1 year old child couldn't ride. It has since changed to "Guests must be XX” tall to ride alone OR accompanied by a supervising companion."
  7. Using KI as a babysitter and the chaperone policy is crimping that plan. Well new for 2023 – The Chaperone and Chaperone+ season pass. For $400 extra you can still drop the kiddos off like you have been! They will simply proceed to the Chaperone check-in booth and will be given a wrist band that they can simply flash to security whenever they are stopped. This post is sarcasm…until it is not and they offer some season pass add-on LOL…
  8. What would stop said chaperone from entering and then leaving.....
  9. Yet they eliminated bottled drinks in Prestige due to a few abusers. Unfortunately every law or policy is the result of a bad few that ruin it for everyone else. On the contrary, if a chaperone policy were in place, perhaps that juvenile wouldn't have been at the park at all. They haven't said but I suspect he was one of the many either dropped off or bussed in and I suspect no parent was on the premises when the event happened...
  10. When most don't have an enjoyable experience visiting that park these days, whether it be for that event or some random Thursday, they shouldn't be surprised. The quality of the performance and offering has gone down and they know it because they dropped gate admission price for the first time in two decades....which will only make CP more crowded and even less enjoyable visits. Thank goodness it appears KI is beyond the give the gate away mentality. https://wmms.iheart.com/content/2023-04-18-cedar-point-lowers-gate-admission-price-for-first-time-in-nearly-20-years/
  11. Or maybe it is you cannot purchase online day of but they will still have availability at the toll? Or someone didn't get the memo LOL. Or someone told me bad info LOL.
  12. Oh yea that will stop people from using it LOL, just like the line jumping signs stop people from line jumping, the no smoking announcements stop people from smoking in the park, and the exit only signs on restaurants stop folks from going thru the exit to skip having their refill cup scanned....
  13. My understanding is Preferred is now only sold online a day before and cannot purchase day of (but does that mean the toll gate got the memo or will they change it back if too many complain?), but yes you raise a valid point - if they sold out the preferred by the day before, then that means no Prestige could get in even if the lot is empty because you were the first one there.
  14. Cross-threading, but maybe that is why preferred lot stayed open until close Sunday as that station can see that area.
  15. They need to do like they did with Chick-Fil-A - the need to reduce the width of the queue from where you place the order to where you get the food and use that freed up space to add another queue for the order line. On Saturday, but even in years past, on a busy day it is not uncommon to see 30 or so people that have ordered and then all bunched up by the drinks and exit waiting for their number to be called. If that queue was a normal queue width, then at least the bottleneck is at the cashier as they couldn't take another order until some of that line cleared out, similar to what would happen at I-street Skyline.
  16. More coming out, including it was a gun, and he climbed the fence into the park into restricted areas... https://www.fox19.com/2023/04/17/teen-arrested-near-kings-island-had-9mm-handgun-magazine-12-bullets-police-report-says/?fbclid=IwAR3Qtm_TN0suQk3Aai80_xrZsW15j-U-LaGF0ZFR28aX_Vf3roBd4NHySQc
  17. Is the prize really worth it? https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/boy-13-gets-stuck-climbing-claw-machine-prize-98641983?fbclid=IwAR2lueNNpryZsi6ZA_rZOORlhmNMI1aOW93ZGG4TxgYTEBkfBJJYiBuSNIM
  18. The upside to this is it would pretty much stop line-jumping because if your pass or QR code was too far off when people entered the line, then it is an easy catch.
  19. Who would have thought it would be a juvenile... And don't these types of articles typically name the spokesperson they got the info from... https://www.fox19.com/2023/04/16/juvenile-arrested-accused-having-weapons-kings-island-parks-first-day-season/
  20. The VIP lounge closes an hour before park closes so why not preferred lot too
  21. You know, the sign they put up when they don't staff the lot at the end of the night lol. So people pay for Prestige and a few that bought said pass take too many bottled drinks so they eliminate a paid benefit, yet so much theft from stores of bottled drinks and people taking water cups and filling with soda with no recourse...crime pays apparently...
  22. I suspect those that bought the pass did so for one or more these reasons: Preferred Parking Bottled drinks and snacks Front of the line pass Lounge The way it was marketed initially was that preferred parking was a guarantee, now it is subject to availability. That would be like saying the season long FL is subject to availability. It was marketed, promoted, and sold as bottled water and snacks and then that was taken away. Many bought Prestige after walking by the Lounge last year and saw what was being offered to only have it removed weeks later. I know people with handicap plates that bought Prestige just so they could show up later since the handicap lot fills quickly and the preferred is basically at the same general location (just other side of walkway). I know people with allergies to the dyes in drinks so they cannot even get water from the Coke machine since they share a drink with the water dispenser. They would buy bottled water and essentially decided to go with Prestige as essentially their bottled water drink plan. So they have kept the front of the line pass and the lounge, and of course the two free guests, but is it worth 3x the price now? And then the lounge for Soak City is being marketed as only having seating and no other amenities. Unless some additional benefits show up or they restore some of what was lost, I see many not renewing Prestige next year.
  23. You go to the right associate entering the park and you can get that for the price of your gold or platinum pass LOL Pay me $200 and I will greet you by name as well
  24. Yep...now just imagine all the folks that bought said pass after visiting the lounge last year when it had bottled drinks and all you want variety of snacks and purchased pass based on that experience and now get cooler water in flimsy cups and they ration the snacks. Many call it the bait and switch. At least they are Lay's this year. For a while last year it switched to no name chips lol.. Wait till you see Soak City where all KI mentions is seating...well exclusive seating... and no mention of water or snacks or TVs...
