That is a strong statement. Large steel coasters have not been around for nearly as long as wood coasters, so there potential lifespan is really unknown. However, they simply do not last forever as they can't simply be retracked. Also, I would note that steel coasters are more prone to be considered "obsolete."

I've heard that CF parks used to pay in nickels. -

How can you not enjoy the Golden Ticket Awards? The authenticity, the true gold standard by which all award standards should be modeled... -
I think the next 2 full size coasters will be giga and wooden. If we are so fortunate, I hope the latter is built before the former.

Cedar Point 2016 Talk

Dive coasters are the epitome of a one trick pony. Should have gone with a woodie. -
To each his own. I thought the SOB layout was pretty uninspired. Two double helices, (with no lateral forces to your body), and almost no airtime.

I was just curious if it was that ugly, ugly situation that's turning you off or operation of the park after Will was also a factor. I understand your sentiment absolutely. Pat has gotten the worst of this sadly. Will would be absolutely appalled if he were here to see this. Family business can be a wonderful, unitive thing, but when they go wrong they can destroy what is truly important.

I guess I should have included the first time I went to Holiday World. It was in 2010 at Holiday Hustle with Avatar and IBEW. Got a geat pic with Will that night! Then, I could not possibly have agreed more. Now, I'll just say I don't feel the same way about Holiday World and never will unless and until it changes hands again. I've only been to HW only once since Will's tragic death and the family feud and split. I went several times before that. If you don't mind other than not seeing Pat, and the ugliness unleashed and the ruin of the tightly knit family what has gone down hill as far as Park operation and experience? In other words is the GP guest who knows or cares nothing of the spat or Koch family leadership adversely affected, and if so in what way?

Huh?Mr. Six was part of an era of massive new capital investment and over-expansion that led to financial failure. See, for example, Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. Coaster after coaster after coaster. Also, as betwixt SIX and FUN, one is seeing larger increases in attendance overall than the other... I was mostly referring to Mr. Six as a symbol of abject failure. Fair point, the Mr. Six era couldn't have been more different than this, but I think there's a happy medium that can be had in terms of investment. Yes, it's much more than coasters, but I don't see many large SIX investments relative to CF. Perhaps the appearance of low chain wide investment numbers is an illusion caused by the Six Flags policy that everyone gets something new. Everyone gets something so the cash is stretched out.

It's like they're not even trying anymore. No B & Ms no Intamins no GCIs. They're going to be back in the Mr. Six days again very soon if they keep this up. *One interesting item is their brand of Winterfest. It makes me wonder if they have success with it if CF will follow suit.

For Kings Island so loved the world, it gave its only "Son." Turned out to be more of an Antichrist, didn't it?
-
If it were to go, GCI could have a field day with that terrain/environment.

Trying to minimize public outcry from a terrible decision?

Respectfully not buying it. See Kennywood where the new and old happily coexist.

For one they didn't know if it could complete a circuit. No computer simulations in those days. They did calculus by hand, and prayed they got it right. Even if it were right there were enough possible variances to where it very possibly would not complete the circuit.

Whoops that should have said WITHOUT headrests and seat dividers. The high seat dividers KI has are even worse. The head rests cut the view and prevent people from putting their arm around their sweetheart. I think you've said in the past that the headrests are more to keep people who stand up in the train than to prevent whiplash.

It's truly amazing that no one has undermined PTC. I know the market is extremely limited, but those things are rolling dinosaurs on modern twisters. In the original configuration with buzz bars, and without seat dividers and head rests, they're pretty comfortable, if not pleasing to the lawyers and regulators. With all the safety add-ons they are quite uncomfortable to many.

So Millenium Flyers are heavier? Does that mean that GCI makes their coasters more robust than what is traditional?
-
Many thrill rides today would probably be considered too much by those standards. You can do a lot more while still being safe. Also I'd say people have generally higher tolerances.
-
Your Six Flags theory of letting their woodies go to pot theory is interesting. I never considered that possibility, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Was airtime a big liability mainly because of the less restrictive buzz bars? They seem pretty safe on Cornball Express and Hoosier Hurricane which both have good airtime. One thing that would be interesting with The Beast is changing to Millennium Flyer trains. I would believe that they would deliver a better overall ride, but obviously I can't say for sure. Brakes could also be lessened up as I would imagine that the GCI trains world be less harsh on the track.

My family suggestion: a modern replacement of KCKC.
