I think KK is more of a local park, but then again, KI has become that with the season pass model. One season in the last ten, I think it was 2016 or 2017, KK pulled in 800k. Doesn't sound impressive. But, with the equivalent acreage model, if they had 300 acres like ki and no height restrictions, that would have equated to 4m guests, which probably would top KI admissions. The park has plenty of untapped potential, and if the fair board is reasonable, and this redesign gets rid of the road and gives the park a new parking lot and entrance...watch out. Or not.

It's interesting to read these comments about KK. Ten years ago, many were saying it would not reopen. It did. Next, people said KI/CF laughs at the thought of KK being a competitor. Then, people started to notice when they opened Storm Chaser and made a splash with calling out the guy who had his cell phone out COVID happened and literally detailed the raptor. Things were bleak. The park was saved again, this time by HFE. People were expecting Dollywood North, quickly. That didn't happen. However, HFE has begun to implement their formula in a calculated way. They seem to have fostered a good relationship with the fair board. They spend while Cedar Fair retreats. Some here now are admitting that they take a dent out of KI. I haven't been this excited about KK since about 2016. It will never be a Kings Island, but it is making an impact. They said they had 500k guests last year, but if you figure land area size, 60 acres=500k; 300acres= 3 million. If KK was 300 acres and had no height restrictions, they could pull in 2.5 million. Not an accurate postulation, but food for thought. And how many of the 500k would have went to KI if KK didn't exist? How many hundreds of thousands of dollars would have gone to Cedar Fair instead?

I think it's going to take a whole lot more than stripes to retheme The Junkyard Coaster!

Camp Snoopy Construction Updates

But, on a positive note...we got a new FunFact Friday. While the KITeam has much to be desired, this is a great thing they do. I'm assuming this is Elizabeth (?) and deserves kudos for this! -
Me too! I had to leave work for a bit for an MD appointment and I come back to @disco2000's post! :). Stress, I reckon! The gentleman I spoke with was very nice. I appreciate his update.

I called ACE. Tickets have not been put on sale. The events page will be updated at some point, but not today. They are not selling tickets today.

Six Flags and Cedar Fair Merge

This is not remotely close. They only have a few markets with overlap, and that is a stretch. But then again, it's a government agency who tend to make no sense. -
My Idea The Phantom Theater Ride Returned...
BeeastFarmer replied to kingsislandfan1972's topic in Kings Island
I mean, phantom Theater is an IP in its own right. If they were forward thinking, they could trial it at ki and roll it out to other parks in the (probably soon to be bigger) chain. No fees to use! Boo Blasters is the same thing, but I think it is owned by Sally because there are one or two Boo Blasters outside of Cedar Fair. But BB is such a downgrade from PT. -
Just guessing, but I'd say that is to emulate what DW and SDC do with their events. It looks like they are in it to win it, investing 8 million dollars into the event. Hopefully this and Down Under feed off of each other and make both stronger. I've never been and I want to go. This announcement has spurred me to become a kk passholder again. And it's much closer to me than KI. I can see one visit to WinterFest for me this year and a couple of visits to Louisville now. Interesting that HFE is heavily investing into their properties while Cedar Fair is cutting, cutting, cutting. Reminds me of the Kroger Kost Kutter commercials from the 80s, except the cost isn't being cut, it's the experience. https://youtu.be/x1HrWQWdfSk?feature=shared

That's what it looks like!

I don't understand the allure of the bridge. There is a grade crossing. I'm excited for Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom! I wonder what The Interpreter thinks about this?
-
I bet the park smells reeeeeeaaaaaallllllyyyyy good today. (not really) Any guesses why?

Looking forward to seeing what HFE is announcing for KK today. Will it be more of the same, or will it truly be something that propels the park forward?

Does the All Park Passport cover parking at your non-home park?
BeeastFarmer replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I understand that, but issues will always present themselves when something new rolls out. In this case, either the small minority that has gone to Knott's over the last two months have not had an issue or they did not speak out about it. Mike Kootnz went over and above to solve this problem and it sounds fixed, and hopefully a memo has been shared thru the chain. As Kings Dominion and Carowinds open soon, we will see if it's repeated. Even though one customer experience is too many, the truth is that this affected a very small percentage of one percent of the customer base. -

BeeastFarmer replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Knotts is the only park open this year. The pass system needs work. For instance, I went to Carowinds before Kings Island a few years ago. Because my pass has not been "processed", I had to pay for parking. Guest services refunded me, but for 2016, my home park was Carowinds because of this. If the merger commences, I'd expect more frustration until they commit to a unified system. It's my understanding that Cedar Fair adapted Paramount's ticketing system...this is now at least 20 years old. Six makes it very difficult to be a pass holder in that they make you process at a park you bought at, and have a deadline to do so. Plus they have 2572 different pass options. It sounds like Mr. Kootnz had to solve another problem that a park vp/GM shouldn't have to solve by talking to Knott's Berry Farm. This is very bamboozling to me, but shows his commitment to guest satisfaction. -

Gotta represent Lex too! -
It is a daunting situation. Before a new floor opened in the hospital I work at, they took an opportunity for voluntary active shooter drills. The gyst is "run, hide, fight" in that order. It was as realistic as it could be without a full compliment of staff and clients. Hiding in a locked bathroom hearing chaos and gunfire, even though it was simulated, was terrifying. And waiting for an "all clear" and seeing simulated results still gives me flashbacks six years later

And to add to the fray...I called Kings Island today to ask about this issue. The lady I spoke with told me that parking is NOT included at Knott's and Canada's Wonderland. When I mentioned that the list of benefits when I bought the pass said it included all Cedar Fair parks, she said...wait for it...terms and conditions are subject to change at any time for any reason, including park choice. -

As long as people renew their passes with all this degradation, they will continue to cut. Here's the 2025 entertainment announcement: New for 2025! Kings Island will amaze guests by turning on the royal fountain for three minutes each hour from June 20- July 1!* *Conditions subject to change with or without notice. -
Six Flags and Cedar Fair Merge
BeeastFarmer replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Hmmm...maybe brighter days could be ahead. PRKS and or Herschend could be winners. Or there could be massive losers as private equity swoops in and either dismantles and sells piecemeal or cuts even worse to bost numbers. Sometimes, though, private equity can be good. Look at what cerebrus has done with Albertsons since like 2006. Bought back the majority of the company that was divested to a wholesaler and reuinted the company, opened stores, acquired regional chains and then swallowed Safeway. Took the company public again and now a merger attempt with Kroger, and if it fails, Albertsons will get a multi million dollar payout from Kroger. -
