Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor To Close After 2025.

As a person who grew up with Cedar Point, I feel like the Nebulaz should go there.  There haven't been a lot of new flat rides added since 2014, and there are at least 3 spots I would consider:

1: the Boardwalk area, replacing the 3 Point Challenge.  Also the former site of Chaos and Schwabinchen.

2 or 3:  Near Corkscrew, where Matterhorn and Scrambler were before being relocated to the Boardwalk.

As for Kings Island, I would aim for Ragin Cajun, though I am not sure where it would be located.

CP could definitely use it although the age old argument is they get investments constantly it seems so maybe someone else needs it more. Can they give a nebulaZ to a smaller park and then funnel more coaster money at CP?

Not just the investment that they get but the fact that CP has no shortage of flat rides. Does anyone in the chain even come close in that regard?

That's actually true... I mean CP probably has more flats and coasters than valleyfair and Dorney Park combined

Has anyone looked at what all SFA's Hurricane Harbor has? If anything were to be relocated I'd think some slides could at least move.

Rajun Cajun would probably go best in the Skyflyer plot if it came to Kings Island, if anything, to bring in another attraction while potentially saving some moolah for The Vortex replacement.

I think I read that the City of Santa Clara would like to keep California's Great America running even if they have to find a buyer or run it themselves. The land is owned and leased by the tech company (Prologis?), but the city has no intention to rezone the land. Six Flags could probably take a good number of rides out while they still own them. It may not be a great economic decision for the city to have the park, but I do hope it survives the purge.

The possibility of selling the parks to other management also exists. I don't know how it'd work out, but I could even imagine a spin-off company taking on some of the smaller/worse parks. At least that way Six Flags can say that they didn't close them. The former Six Flags/Premier Parks got themselves into a lot of trouble when they went on their spending spree from around 1995-2004, and I think they've been dealing with the consequences ever since.

Six Flags is required to remove everything from the land as part of their deal with Prologis.      Santa Clara rezoned the land in the fall last year and will most likely rezone it again when Prologis presents a development plan.

A Screamscape post indicated that Six Flags Darien Lake is getting a second train for their Ride of Steel coaster (the original source is behind a paywall).  They suggest that that second train was originally intended for SFA's Ride of Steel, but diverted it due to SFA shutting down for good at the end of the season.  The Darien Lake and SFA coasters are identical.

This, to me, may also be a sign that the SFA Ride of Steel is going to end up as scrap.  I don't see this as coming to Michigan's Adventure or any other spot with the potential space available for it.

Just visited Six Flags America for the first time today. Its reputation precedes itself and I was not impressed. Only 4 of the coasters operating in the 5 hours I was there.

The staff were friendly but seemed poorly trained. Some of the rides had standing water in the station or in the exit paths that were so deep you had to jump over it.

I was advised not to get any food during my visit and I settled on eating a heavy breakfast and a snack while at the park. They had no custard available at Rita’s so I got a milkshake at Johnny Rockets. The milkshake I ordered didn’t even fill the cup.

Honestly I view this park being closed and sold for redevelopment as an act of mercy from Zimmerman by putting this place out of its misery. A park that in its heyday had potential but was ran so poorly that it cannot be saved.

I was at SFA this past Friday before driving down to the ACE Spring Conference. I thought the park was actually better than my previous visit in 2023 however, there's definitely a reason this place is getting shut down. I will post more thoughts in the trip reports topic

I'll say, the entrance to the Six Flags America parking lot does look quite beautiful on Google StreetView. It by far blows Kings Island's entry driveway out of the water between the amount of foliage and landscaping. The gates and fences also look much better than the ones at KI. I can imagine that Kings Island's driveway looks like that because of the view of Great Wolf Lodge, I just wish it wasn't just a planter surrounded by tons of grass. It'd also be nice to have some acknowledgement of the Dog Street Cemetery with a sign and a small path leading to it from that intersection, although that is probably more of a pain than the park might think it is worth.

The SFA property listing shows a large clearing to the west (left) of the left-most parking lot. Does anyone know what that is? It looks like a bunch of footers, shipping containers, and piles of aggregate, but I can't tell and am super curious.

Another step toward the end: Six Flags America now only offers a link to purchase a 2026 Kings Dominion Gold Pass. 2025 season passes are allegedly still available through the purchasing website, but I'm not about to go through that just to find out.

Maybe the federal government / current administration will buy the park and operate it since it's called "America" :P

I'd love to see if anything is planned as a small celebration before the park closes. At least a closing ceremony or fireworks would be better than quietly shutting the gates and leaving.

I'm not about to pretend that SFA was some underloved gem--I went once about 10 years ago and have never craved a return--but it's worth pointing out that the widespread downtime you experienced really doesn't seem to have been a thing prior to this year. You're judging a store based on its "everything has to go" sale.

Also, the fact that an amusement park is having the maintenance equivalent of an "'everything has to go' sale" is its own issue, but that's for another post.

I went for the 2nd time last month....it was as I remembered it....only worth staying for a max of 3 hours....lasted 2.5. Operations were awful...one train ops on the coasters that were open. Firebird went down for guest illness at 11:15....wasn't back up and running until 12:45. Batwing was down....Superman was great but one train ops with lackluster dispatches made a 2nd ride not viable. Wonderwoman's swing (the funtime sky flyer) was down....many other rides down too.

The best part of my visit honestly was the SLC.

The beginning of the permanent closure for Six Flags America has officially begun. Batwing has taken its last flight and now Hurricane Harbor Maryland is also permanently closed. I'm still hopeful that a closing celebration can happen, even if it is put on by park goers or by Six Flags. My first and last visit to the park was fun for what it was.

Unless something changes, Six Flags America will permanently close on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 at 6:00 PM.

Six Flags America got to have their map updated one last time before they close later this year via their 2025 Fall Event Guide for their Kids Boo Fest. It doesn't appear to be as developed as the rest of the new Six Flags maps, however it's nice to see they didn't just cheap out on it entirely.

Six Flags America has put up some big banners thanking guests for 50 years of family fun. I think this is a nice way to show all the different iterations of the park. It also seems to be the first in-park references to the fact that the park is permanently closing in 2 1/2 weeks. I've also seen a photo of one of their merchandise racks marked as going to Great Adventure, but I didn't get a screenshot of that one.

Still out here hoping we'll see a small closing ceremony or something like that for the park before it closes its gates forever.

I lived in Virginia during its days as Wild World and Adventure World.  Yet I never went to the park back then.  I only went last summer, mainly due to its impending demise.  Still, I remember TV commercials for the park.  The last one I remember before my move to Ohio was a commercial promoting Mind Eraser.

I can't seem to find that commercial online.

I did end up riding it as Professor Screamore's Skywinder.  It had its roughness, but the newer trains meant this wasn't one of those SLC horror stories.

I wonder if the trains will go to Canada.

I'm glad I ended up making an unplanned visit to that park this summer (KD was closed due to a water main break, it was too late to change hotel reservations and I already had a two-day ticket for BGW later in the week). I didn't get to see everything because of the drive (I was coming from Beckley, WV and it took me 6 hours to get there with stops), but it was still a fun visit and I got a lot ridden in the 6 hours I was there.

Hopefully someone else will buy the property and keep it an amusement park, though it also might depend on how many rides Six Flags wants to relocate to other properties

I was thinking about the rumors regarding ride relocations and stuff, and when you think about it, the amount of saved rides will barely exceed the amount saved from Six Flags New Orleans if these rumors are true.  And that's considering the fact that SFNO was drenched in salt water!

With the exception of Ragin Cajun, Great Chase, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Steamwhirler, I see it possible that everything else could just get torn down.  It's all older stuff, and there's nothing really unique about it except for Wild One, and even that likely gets scrapped.

RIP to Six Flags America.

I wonder how soon the chain plans to remove it from their maps and such. IMO it would be a disservice to leave the website up as-is with no indication of the fact that the park is closed (though I wouldn't put it past SF to leave it up as-is). The earliest that anything will happen is tomorrow when people are in their offices.

If any rides get relocated then I could see announcements coming in about a month. Most of the fixtures (at least racks and such) will almost definitely be sent to other parks to be reused.

The logistics part of me would love to see the plans for what's moving, and how, and when — though realistically those plans would never be released.

Their teacup ride is a lot better than the pretty much mini version KI got to save money.

I've watched a few closing day videos on YT and it was sad to see. That was someone's home park and its always sad when people lose their happy place. Also I'm sure you all saw that ridiculous video of the guest gaining access to Batwing's cat walk  I really hope that was worth it to him to get arrested for.
