jbeast
I hate to see any ride retired and leave KI. I have seen too many in my life and losing the original Eagles still hurts. After just visiting Cedar Point again after a few years last week, I'd love a Maverick style coaster anywhere in the park. But, especially in the old Vortex spot. (or a ground up RMC, one can wish). I saw tons of kids and parents riding Maverick as intense and fun as it is. Not the biggest coaster in the world, but sure packs a fun punch. Took my youngest son for his first CP visit and Maverick was his first ride and favorite as well as Top Thrill 2. With Millie a close 3rd. Lightning Run In KK surprised me too the first time I ever rode it as a coaster that is family friendly. But wow, what ride! When I was a young kid, KI often pushed the boundaries a bit with the coasters they installed...The Beast, original Bat, King Cobra as examples. I think there is plenty of want for a more intense coaster experience watching young kids riding all the intense coasters at CP.
DJSkyFoxx
I know they would never do it, but imagine a retracked Invertigo in the same way The Great Nor'Easter (Vekoma SLC ) has been, giving it a super improved experience and some revamped trains with better tracking capabilities and the new style restraints Vekoma now uses. I know that would never happen as that would be a very expensive overhaul, but the ride quality and overall experience would be leveled up while also keeping the only operating Vekoma Invertigo stateside in operation and far better.
kingsislandfan1972
Is it odd to say that anytime I go to KI, Invertigo is always down? Literally everything I have had a chance to ride it, it seems like it shuts down. I live in Michigan and my family and I have been going to KI since the 90s and I have rode Face/Off/Invertigo a total of 0 times... do I just have bad luck?

I have not been the past few years but based off of my experience, it seemed to be up more than it was down. I can only remember 2-3 times I’ve gone and it’s been closed for the entire day. I do remember some late openings but it seems like it was fairly reliable.

DJSkyFoxx
Yeah those cables have been hanging for a moment. I guess you could say it's still very "Invertibroken". I wish the park would make some kind of formal announcement about it-whether they decide to remove it or repair it. I really hate this whole line of secrecy. And the fact that the park was essentially hounded into making sure people knew Monster wasn't going anywhere. Why can't the same courtesy be made for Invertigo? I know that SF has been awful about letting people know about ride removals, but I just don't see the benefit in doing that. Transparency will always garner more respect than not. 4

Years ago with the practice of communication at amusement parks, almost each park had spokesperson where he/she was pretty much the face of the park to the general public. They were the ones that news reporters always talk to whenever there was a new announcement, incident, etc. Heck, a current member on this site could vouch for that much… With everything leading more corporate, I think that that personal touch goes away-which I don’t necessarily agree with. Most companies are more worried about getting information sent out via social media through targeted posts as opposed to literally just having somebody step behind a camera and say the same thing. It takes away the authenticity of things. I know that everybody is glued to their screens and wants information tweeted out as soon as possible, but I think there is still something to be said for verbal communication. It’s a different world out there. As somebody who went to college and studied communication, marketing, and or at a time when social media was still just as big of a part of our everyday lives as it is now, I think that a lot of corporations overlook the value of constant communication- it’s all about getting out content nowadays.

The majority of the content now being published is messaging. There’s very little storytelling. “RiverRacers now open; buy your Silver Pass!” We’ll see the same messaging next year: “Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare now open; buy your Silver Pass!”

I already want to ride it because of what it is. But when the messaging is just “buy your pass”, it shows where the priorities are - the transaction instead of the experience. For example: “Orion is open, buy your pass now” vs. “Come ride the record-breaking Orion at Kings Island, with a 300-foot drop, over a mile of track, and speeds over 90 mph- you won’t want to miss it! Secure your season pass today at VisitKingsIsland.com.” Both are basically sales pitches, but one tells a story that builds excitement. I know I need a ticket to enter the park - that’s obvious. Storytelling, though, makes me feel like the park is earning my business rather than just demanding it. In the long run, that’s better for customer retention than simply shouting “buy, buy, buy.” I think a lot of companies are just so fast to sell that they have honestly forgotten what they’re selling: entertainment…stories…memories… 2

SonofBaconator
3 minutes ago, disco2000 said: Then when someone questions the park, they get banned.... Because it’s easier to “silence” a singular person. I don’t really see news reporters coming after the park and asking things that typical fans ask. I’m sure if a news agency reached out to the park, the park would be inclined to make a statement, but that comes at a cost – that news agency might not be invited back to ride announcements or different media day events – at least that’s how I view it.
Losantiville Mining Co.
1 hour ago, I...am SteVe said: Surprisingly, the sign for PT:ON outside formerly-Boo Blasters promotes the Gold Pass. That's because Kings Island (and a bunch of other Six Flags parks) no longer offer a Silver Pass. It's almost as if most people buy their passes so they can experience the whole season, not just the period from April-Labor Day. I think a better model would've been to bring back the Silver Pass with the following changes: Make the pass good for the entire operating season, but include blackout dates. Maybe blackout a few weekdays during the normal season, Fridays during Haunt, and one or two normally busy days during Winterfest. Lower the discount percentage. No access to some exclusive things like the Passholder Previews.
SonofBaconator
Case in point with another park- you have a ride that was closed for the majority of the season, and now that it’s open, it’s being used it to promote the MVP Sale.

How can Pantherian be an MVP? It's not a player or a pass, so not sure where they were going with that. But they don't really care, they just want your money. Anyway, back on topic-I think there is a very real chance that we may see Invertigo leave next season for "future expansion" and it may not get replaced for another 2-3 years or so. I think Invertigo has less time than The Bat does. More kids can ride The Bat after they lowered the height requirement, and it sees some long lines on occasional weekends. Invertigo costs more to operate (at least I think) and it consistently has lower popularity than The Bat does. I can remember only a few souvenirs that actually had Invertigo on it (besides the souvenirs that have all the rides). All that said, I think Invertigo and Congo Falls could go without a major complaint as long as it is going to be replaced soon. Like I said before, I'm mostly okay with them taking out old rides (unless it's a really good one like Beast) but they must be replaced, or it will hurt the park in several ways. Losing Congo Falls means one less water ride (which creates longer lines for the other ones) and losing Invertigo gives guests one less option of something to do. Sure, it may save money. But will it increase guest satisfaction? That's what they really should care about
Losantiville Mining Co.
I think calling Pantherian an MVP was simply a way to get the acronym into the post more than once. It could be considered a "player" in a metaphorical sense. Either way, I think they should've at least used the words "Most Valuable Pass Sale" in that second sentence so anyone (somehow) learning about this for the first time would at least know what it meant. If the park removes Invertigo and/or Congo Falls, I hope they do something to make the fence look nicer than just a plain fence. Vortex's fence is fine because it has all of that nature behind it and you can see The Beast from different parts of it. I would not like to see something like they currently at Great Adventure and their Great Wall of Vacant Space, where it's just one long gigantic fence with no permanent trees or foliage along it. At least dress it up a little and keep some of the splash down pond for added decoration. If they also go at the same time, I don't see the Invertigo restrooms staying open either. Banshee's restrooms are there and it'd be one less set to keep clean.

Losantiville Mining Co.
I hope any Action Zone renovation includes a complete restructuring of the area (like Aeronautica Landing got) and new restrooms. A new Scream n' Swing could be nice if they make it go over water. That way it's not just a giant grass patch or concrete pad. If Invertigo has given its last rides, I still hope an announcement is made. 1

The ones by Invertigo still have the 2000s Action Zone look, while the ones by Banshee were not looking great the last time I was in them this year. If they close one of them, I'd hope it is for an eventual renovation.
