  1. We should be thankful that they even put up a webcam. To be honest I think about 10% of the GP will even look at the thing. Most parks don't have webcams redly available to the enthusiast community. I say take what you get, and don't throw a fit.

  2. It counts as a batwing. But what makes up a batwing are a reverse side-winder into a side-winder. Banshee's "batwing" actually counts as a pretzel knot. (rcdb will back me up on that, thankfully) Which consists of a dive loop into an immelman (or the two elements of a batwing) that cross the exit and entrance paths over one another. Small differences, but when you're someone like me, they are important to acknowledge.

  5. The last image I saw today was Clifford resting his big red head on the ground....napping and expecting high winds to blow through...I know they did here! Practically cleaned the leaves out of all of my trees (and blew them handily into my neighbors yard. Yay!)

  8. Being autistic, my nephew has a tendency to run off or wander off. There was no way we were taking him to Disney World without having a good grip on him. Plus, the harness was shaped like a stuffed monkey that wrapped around him, so he loved it. It made for a more relaxing time knowing that we wouldn't lose him, and we all had a fantastic, safe time at the park!

  9. Gosh this park is jumping' since Ouimet took over. It's like a giant Christmas present. New rides, theming, etc., I can't wait 'til opening day! All the things I love about amusement parks keeps happening. Now if we could create a Secret Garden from Tower Gardens.... just bringing that up.

  10. When Top Gun opened, there was fog in the station. I wonder if the fog machines are still there? This would be a perfect excuse to fire them up again! The spookier, the better.

  12. http://www.disneycorner.com/the-dc-mainmenu-74/orlando-theme-park-news/3378-new-boats-for-the-pirates-of-the-caribbean-ride This article addresses new boats, and I'm not sure if the same design of boat is used in Paris, but it seems as if the gondola back doesn't have the extra surface length of say, the boats on Enchanted Voyage. It doesn't look to me like there was much to stand on. The new design really has nothing 'boat' looking about it- it's just an enclosed watertight collection of benches. A five year old boy, if he were anything like me at that age, could have been trying to take it all in. The big deal about a Dark Ride featuring well known characters is that they are alive in your 5 year old world. He could have been leaning back to see it all. Five year olds have a great flexibility. He could have been standing on the seat. Why is it we, (People in charge of the kids for the day) lax our attention at parks sometimes? We're around big machinery with bouncy kids. We're the grown-ups, we can't get caught up in the magic of being in the theme park with kids in tow. I drop 150 without fear on The Beast thanks to the crews that safety check every morning, but there's common sense involved when we bring along wiry, excited kids. I recall asking parents to sit their kids on the carousel horse, not to let them stand. The parents would sometimes stand next to the horse, holding the kid, who was standing on the horse. "She's alright, she's with me, I'm holding her." And... what if you were to slip and fall, Big Daddy? You're standing on a spinning platform, you can lose your balance- your kid is on an outside horse- do you honestly want her to have an asphalt facial tattoo for six weeks?"

  14. I can't say which one I like more because I like both of them for different reasons. I like the Banshee logo because yes, I think its GREAT to see a female theme in a ride logo and I absolutely LOVE the colors. They not only pop, but there is also something soothing to the eye about them as well. It just says "I look like candy in the day, but I am the voice of the night" sort of thing. Really just a great overall selection of colors, details and "popping-ness". I like The Bat logo because orange and black just look soooo good together and I also just love bats in general. They're cool animals and I like how intense the way the lettering looks as well as the little bat features hidden in them. I know a lot of people prefer the old bat logo, and don't get me wrong...I like it too quite a lot...but since this isn't the "old" Bat, this new Bat logo fits the "new" Bat coaster just fine.

  15. Thirty-three years to the day it was first introduced in 1980, The Bat will fly again at Kings Island. The park is changing the name and colors of Flight Deck to The Bat. The change will take effect for the 2014 season. The new color scheme for The Bat will feature orange track with two shades of charcoal for the columns and supports. Black will be the featured color of the trains.

  16. Don was just on 700 WLW talking about The Bat and the park in general. He talked about The Bat being an appropriate name for Flight Deck because of how a bat swoops around gracefully and dives unexpectedly. He confirmed that the ride itself would not change. The host brought up the Half Pint Brawlers and how he loved them, which led into a general discussion about Haunt shows and Ed Alonzo, which segued into the possibility of a Saved By the Bell cast reunion with Ed Alonzo and the challenges faced in doing so (I missed most of that portion). HW's Wildebeest and Mammoth were brought up by the host and Don called a water coaster a "great suggestion" IIRC. Discussion was had about setting a record for most rides on one coaster; Don suggested doing it on Banshee since you would be able to start at zero with everyone else (he also briefly mentioned doing so himself back in the 80s but did not mention hitting 12,000). There was general discussion about wooden coasters being rough; Don likes them a little rough. There may have been other topics discussed, but I was not able to pay undivided attention to the segment, so I might have missed something.

  18. People are silly. It is announced frequently all over the place "lowest prices for 2014" or some form of that. I also think people think (or not so much) that Kings Island is not in this for profit and should keep prices incredibly low all the time. They offer discounted tickets in a variety of places, they offer discounted season passes before the season ends and even extend it after the season ends for those who forget. They open up opportunity by years end to do a buy now, pay later option. I really find it amazing that people would be surprised that prices go up. Then again, people complain about everything. Need a rain check policy (check the forecast before you go), stupid Fast Lane passes, souvenir cups only good that were sold this year, blah blah blah. I've never bought a Fast Lane pass myself, but man, that is a great idea for a straight up profit for a company when people are more than willing to pay for it.

  21. And while people are praising and watching this, 7 orcas have been captured from Russia waters for Asian aquariums over the past month and being held with another capture from a year ago in a small sea pen. The people responsible for Blackfish as well as other animal rights extremist aren't even batting an eye to the newly captured orcas just because SeaWorld's apparent horrid name isn't connected. People really disgust me and should be ashamed of themselves, those orcas actually need help. I have my issues with Blackfish. They went with interviewing older (and couple cases fired careless employees) for this film as opposed to newer folks. All the footage been shown in other documentaries and/or been on Youtube for years so nothing really new. Tillikum himself is barely shown at all, they use other SW whales (like Kasatka who is a female) to play "Tillikum" throughout the film. Of course, people who have no idea that there are other "shamu's" or know nothing of the history of captive orcas, this will certainly put something in their heads.

  26. This just seems strange to me that a 5 year old "leaned back too far and fell out of the boat." A few years ago we took my nephew to Disney World and rode Pirates of the Caribbean. He was 4 and he has autism, ADHD, and behavior disorders. He was just fine on the ride. Yes he was antsy, but we sat him between us, had him on a harness, and made sure he was safely seated at all times. It will be interesting to see the reports after they investigate this further. Perhaps the ride in Paris has different seating that the one in Florida, or maybe the parents were being too lenient with this kid during the ride. We can't say for sure. I just can't get my head around how a kid falls out of a boat when the parents are sitting right there.

  28. That is just gravel. If I had to guess, they are going to be moving "Clifford" here soon down into the valley, and the gravel is there to help facilitate this move and provide a solid footing for the crane during its move. Especially in light of the rain we got yesterday.

  29. Gold Passes are now $117 for new purchases, $98 for renewals. So renewals are cheaper by $19... but yesterday's price of $85.50 was cheaper still. Regular passes are $106 new/$90 renewal. Again, yesterday's Gold Pass prices were cheaper than even the regular renewal price. Platinum is $187 new/$182 renewal. Yesterday's price was slightly cheaper, but not by much ($180). So yes, there are renewal discounts, but you would have been better off buying yesterday anyway.

  30. I would say we will probably see a new queue under The Bat; with the typical back and forth rows. By tearing all the old Top Gun stuff out, they can now build a solid floor across. Would be nice if the station was transformed into a old barn. You come out of the barn at the top of the lift and go back in at the final brake. I will try some PS magic this weekend.

  32. I think it would be cool to see the lift enclosed but I'm not counting on it. i do like the idea of making the station over to look bit like a bell tower. Hopefuly they will do something with it. Also would be cool to see them do something with the bridge you pass under at teh start of the queue line. Think it would look good if they gave it a cave look with some LED light eyes in a few spots to look like bats peering out. It's such a small spot that it could probably be done pretty easily and would make a big impact.

  33. Not too long. I used a picture that showed a very limited portion of the ride to make it easier. Then I selected and placed different elements (track, train, supports etc) on varying layers so I could adjust the hues individually but retain things such as glare and shading to make it seem more realistic. I tried to cover up some of the sharp edges by blurring them which worked so-so at best. I'm definitely very amateur with photoshop, but, I like doing things like these just to get a quick idea of what it could look like in the future. Yeah, I think you're right, but, I did it like this as kind of a cheat. The picture I used was from when the track was red. This made it easier to convert to orange. I went ahead and kept the band of color on the trains as well to make it appear a little more realistic.

  34. There's no issue. There's a guide rail underneath the cars to keep them from swinging while in the station, on the lift, and on the brake run.

The girl has no fear of rides, next year will be exciting with a new line up of coasters and rides waiting for her! I can't wait either.

  39. Really enjoying all these rendered pictures. Helps one get an idea of whats in store. I can't say enough how much I enjoy the orange and black...I truly feel that this will give this poor coaster some much needed attention because the current color scheme really never did anything for it. It was just...dull. I know it was meant to have jet fighter colors, but its more likely going to garner up more attention with the new colors and name. People will be more interested in what is has to offer.

  41. I'm going to join GOCC for the same reasons as mentioned above. Close to home Indiana. I really love this site here. Everyone is very friendly, funny and kind. I wanted to go to closing day just couldn't afford it. This is my 1st summer back on any coasters. And it has been great!! Cedar Point twice and Kings Island 4 times. So I bought a season pass for next year. My wife and I was married for 22 years and was regulars at Kings Island until 1997 had an incident on Adventure Express. She can't even look at them now coasters that is. Anyway we divorced a year ago so I wanted to get back to riding again. So that's what I did this past summer. Sorry for the life story there. I hope I get to know all of you and we have a great season next year. Now comes my dumb question. Is KIC a club itself? Thanks for your time.

  42. Wish granted! No trespassing was involved. Pics were taken by my fiancé from the road right in front of CSF there was no one behind me so we just stopped on the road real quick to get pics. All we saw was this one truck. Sorry they aren't closer views but looked like two pieces of track and a small support. Edit: removed one pic because you couldn't tell anything past the rain drops on the window.
