How many chicken wings can you eat and still handle seven stomach-churning inversions on the Banshee roller coaster? If you ever wanted to know the answer to that question, Kings Island can help you figure it out. Kings Island is offering a $14.99 (plus tax) all-you-care-to-eat wing deal every Friday night at Halloween Haunt in the Reds Hall of Fame Grille from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. through November 1. In addition to all the jumbo wings you care to eat, the menu for this deal also includes tossed Caesar salad, fries, pickle chips, fresh celery and dipping sauces. Park admission to Halloween Haunt is required.13 points

Wowzers. Hard to pick a favorite terrible SLC color scheme between that and Cedar Fair's Thunderhawk while at Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom: Oofa! Not so easy on the eyes!8 points

It was truly Disneyesque. Themingwise, no higher praise can I award. Its removal was one of the saddest decisions the park ever made. In retrospect, it was a truly stupid decision. The same thing can be said of Enchanted Voyage. On a lesser scale for different reasons, also the removals of the Flying Eagles, Zodiac, Antique Cars and Kenton's Cove: Keelboat Canal. At least the last mentioned wasn't of the original flume from Coney Island of Ohio, which almost happened.7 points

Or perhaps it's just Terp who will be retired soon. With Terp, one never knows: Diversions. Driving clues. Life analogies. You just never know...until you do.5 points

It is amazing how much you realize you grow over such a small period of time. When I saw my original posts in here I had to laugh at myself a little bit.5 points

There are reasons for that. Ironically, Cedar Point has far more easily developable space than does Kings Island. Yet, every few months, someone shows up here and tells us (incorrectly) that Cedar Point is running out of room.4 points

Wood is much easier to be replaced than steel. If a wood coaster is popular enough, it can be renewed so long as there are trees. You can replace small sections of the track at a time very cheaply. With a steel coaster, I don't imagine there's much option outside of manufacturing steel for the entire ride. That's quite a lot more expensive.4 points

I imagine folks probably said such things about Great American Scream Machine, too. Rides have service lives, whether we want them to or not. Things can be done to extend or renew them, like rebuilding Florida's (Space Mountain?) with new track and supports, but truthfully, I think Disney's the only one who would ever spend that kind of money. For the rest of the world, which has far less iconic rides (would anyone in New York City know what Vortex is by name alone? How about Space Mountain?), it's just a better business decision to bring in a new ride. There isn't an ROI on a seasonal park replacing steel on their Arrow looper that's been around for 25 years. There is, however, an ROI on taking down the coaster and replacing it with something new that can be put on TV commercials and radio commercials and flyers and discount coupons at the local Wendy's. I wish it wasn't that way, because I know that, when Vortex goes, Adventure Express probably won't be far behind. But that's the nature of our hobby. Enjoy the rides you've got while you've got them.4 points

Not for what they did, but if they offended. Implicitly blaming the victims' tender sensibilities. Not sorry for what they did, sorry if you were offended. Left handed apology.3 points

Welcome to Cedar Fair's efforts to get with 2014 tech. Sad, really.3 points

And as much as we hate it, no matter how beloved something may be by its fans or how reliable it is, or even how iconic it may be, that doesn't guarantee it will stick around forever. Money talks. Things that don't make money are bound to go bye-bye one day no matter how much people love them. See my avatar for proof (well, maybe "iconic" wouldn't apply there, but the other examples all do). Not saying I'd be OK with it if Vortex or Adventure Express left us. It would be devastating. It would fundamentally change Kings Island for me, and probably not in a way that I like. But such is life. Besides the woodies, I reckon I will outlive every coaster at Kings Island (assuming I live for roughly the average amount of time). Yes, that includes Diamondback and Banshee.3 points

The 2009 incident was completely and utterly classless. I don't care if it was a publicity stunt or if it was truly intended to be a display. Call me sensitive if you want, but those were real people who were murdered, cancer victims, or people who lost their lives in their addictions. Excuse my hearty chuckle because that's some funny stuff right there. Some things ARE off limits, and to pretend otherwise is asinine. I would never try to gain publicity in an immoral way. Did the park ever issue an apology? *Slowly steps off soapbox and takes a deep breath.3 points

Im no saying I expect a ride to stay forever (however, do look at Disney's Haunted Mansion), but to have a great themed ride that was very well done (Enchanted Voyage) to be replaced by another very well done ride (Smurf's Enchanted Voyage) to have that replaced by a very well done People Mover ride (Phantom Theater) and a stage, to have those replaced with a haunt and an also ran retro fit of Scooby Doo to the dethemed version of it to be come Boo Blasters, just makes me sad. The layout is still the same for Boo Blasters that it was for Phantom right?3 points

As others have stated it was really a great ride. You knew the story because the ride actually told a story. The animatronics interacted with the guests and each other. There were sight gags and moments where they tried to scare you. The music that played along with the ride set the tone. Even the Phantom that met you was unique and added to the theme.3 points

Vortex may be my favorite ride. It is certainly the most picturesque at KI (of what I have seen i would say anywhere). I will be so very depressed if it is retired.3 points

I will say it is odd to have terpy bump both the Viking Fury and Vortex "leaving" threads after months of inactivity. Perhaps he knows something that we don't, preparing us for the inevitable retirement of these rides. Perhaps it's a hint that a different attraction could be saying goodbye. Perhaps there was no goal beyond the posting. It's still an interesting look back. If Vortex is to go soon, I apologize for riding it and enjoying it only just recently. You know the story of how that goes.3 points

Only until the end of their service life. Then, it becomes more economical to replace most steel coasters than to attempt continued maintenance.2 points

Random question: Have we figured what part of Thunderbird was released in the shredded blueprints that HW gave away in their teaser kits? From the looks of it, the carousel seems to be the featured element in that shredded paper clue.2 points

I remember Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle being advertised as an interactive dark ride experience. Everyone thought that was the coolest idea ever. Then they rode it... Boo stinks, but it's not nearly as bad as Scooby was. At least you can ride it and not be ashamed to be there.2 points

It was a great ride. I miss it very dearly. It was worlds above BBOBH. Hell it was worlds above Scooby Doo and I love Scooby.2 points

As someone who never had the chance to enjoy Phantom Theater, was it actually a great ride or is it just the nostalgia and rose colored glasses that makes everyone crazy about it? Be honest.2 points

Hmm..could a topic not touched for 20 months suddenly being bumped by the ever-cryptic Terpy serve as a clue as to the future fate of such ride?2 points

There's a few props throughout Madame Fatale's as well like the cannon. Your title gave me the idea too that they should do a maze sometime themed around the Phantom Theatre and the maestro.2 points
