I'd personally hope for the omnimover to be removed. Maybe, just maybe, you could float a few boats in there? On a whim, theme it to Peanuts characters. A good soundtrack would carry you through a year of peanuts life. Kites flying for spring, baseball for summer, football for fall, and sledding for winter. A dark ride doesn't HAVE to be scary. IE: Enchanted Voyage

I prefer it blacked out. But I will say it does seem a little rougher this season.

A love letter to the best roller coaster in the world
NoChickens replied to rlentless's topic in Kings Island
For a newb could you explain this comment? Thanks, I really do appreciate everyone who is helping me learn the terminology and such. Surf Dog is listed as a coaster, by some. -
Things you first experienced at Kings Island

Like LoraX, my first visits become blurred. Enchanted Voyage was instantly etched in my brain. My first ride on Racer, traumatic, ecstatic, documented here before. Rotor, Haleys Comet, Bayern Curve, Wheel of Fortune, and a HUGE pickle barrel, are also faded memories. All precious to me, but none as precious as my first lift hill ride with MrsNoChickens, Vortex, just another reason to love it. -
Welcome to KIC !! Just as others have posted, only one I'm sure of is the Super8. Great Wolf Lodge is walking distance, but pricey.

I ended this event tired, very tired. And very glad I chose it. I threw years of tradition to the wind, and it came down sunshine.

I say haul it. Life is to short.

If Terpy has taught me anything,( it's much more than this), it's that you don't need to pack everything you own into the park. If it won't fit in my zippered pocket on my cargo shorts, I don't really need it. I do however lament the day I can go without my phone. My dad is 90, he is the only reason I still carry it into the park.

As promised, a report for the Shaker Inn. Just as jtro said above, we really enjoyed our Shaker Inn experience, though Chugh43, may disagree. For reasons that will become obvious. Positives; As mentioned, very quiet. With no interstate close by it had a quaint back road peacefulness that can't be found at the big exit hotels. The drive was well worth the extra 5-10 mins. As soon as you pull into the parking lot, the landscaping, and care of the exterior are immediately apparent. Once inside, the room was clean, immaculately clean. The staff was awesome, they found a way to let us check in late, and add a day with no questions. And gave us work arounds for both. Negatives: The only real outstanding negative, was the pull out sofa. The mattress was so thin the springs would have made a mosquito uncomfortable. Poor Chugh43 ended up sleeping on it in it's sofa configuration. The room configuration was kind of strange, as it's listed as a suite, but access to the bathroom is only through the bedroom. All in all, I'd highly recommend this place. Clean, quiet, and off the main road. We didn't have a chance to check out the pool area, though it looked as pristine as the rest of the landscape.

I actually hope to make a trip this year, next year is not a "given" at this point.

Quote: Kentucky Kingdom also has expanded its marketing presence this season by advertising in secondary markets, such as Evansville, Ind.; Indianapolis; Nashville, Tenn.; and Owensboro, Ky. I can say living just outside Indy, I've not seen anything. Holiday World on the other hand, not a day goes by without a commercial or billboard noticed.

Last Friday, shared the 7-1 experience with CoasterGeek101. His reaction was priceless, Vortex has a new fan, I hope?

Just as said above. If your going on a week day, no need for Fast Lane. If you want to ride everything in the park. Go to Flight of Fear ,Firehawk, and Back Lot Stunt Coaster your first 3 rides. Once you get those 3 out of the way, it's an easy day to get the rest. If it's a Saturday, try those 3 first, if the lines get long, buy the pass if you want to reride them. Diamondback can produce long wait times, with even a moderate queue. Banshee, with half the switchbacks open is probably around 45-60 mins. If Vortex has a line outside it's queue it's maybe 20. The Beast is another that can eat up some time, but even on the heaviest of days it's about 75 -90 mins.

I sense a lag in souvenir cup movement may be directly related to the "no loose article" movement. For every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction.

Beach Reopens

Not to detract from the obvious appeal, but a thread that hasn't been posted on since 9-30-14, is marked as "hot"? -
I haven't given up yet. The set that now sits in the Carowinds, extremely snappable. This set...so close.

Finally took a 7-1 ride on Vortex, it's great!! But it's not as smooth as 5-1, sorry Homestar Not uncomfortable by any means, and I'd happily ride it again from there.

Our last stay in Mason, was at the Microtel. We had stayed there before, and, it was a "serviceable" experience. Our last however, left MrsNC, with a few bites around her ankles. We have never even considered the Super 8. Red Roof? Not in this life time. Our real mainstay had become the KII&CC, it really was nice, if you asked for the rooms in the A, B, or C buildings. Sadly, no longer an option. After reading this thread, we have cancelled our room, at a different location, and booked at The Shaker Inn. We booked a small suite, which consists of 2 rooms. One with a king size bed and TV, the other a full size sofa-bed and TV. A built in microwave and refrigerator are included with the room. Final cost, with tax, $170.60 for 2 nights. And this is for Coasterstock weekend. Not sure how many rooms they have left, but MrsNC did mention to them that this site had brought us there. I am actually looking forward to this stay after reading many reviews. I'll post a review here after our stay. Few things would make me happier, than for a small road side hotel to become our "go to" option.

Should You Feel Safe on a Roller Coaster?
NoChickens replied to rlentless's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The brakes are not retractable, no need to play with lives with any system that could accidentally move out of position. Power could go out mid fall, and the ride would still land safely.
