Rumor: Gwazi to close in February
NoChickens replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^^ South Bay Cities, a great tune by Great White. I'd post the video, but it's not really a video, just the album cover and some may find it inappropriate for this site. -
^^ It only looks weird, because we're not used to it. Very small annoyance to keep the site up as far as I'm concerned. Thanks Dane, and all the admins, for all you do.

I have really been avoiding this topic. My musical taste varies wildly, though 80's metal is always my "go to". I will quite willingly listen to almost anything, though I do have a short tolerance for country, and a much shorter tolerance for rap. I graduated high school with majors in science, math, and music (or enough credits for any of those to count as a "major"). On a given day, I may listen to Bach, Bon Jovi, Bullet for My Valentine, Bocephus, or Bachman Turner Overdrive. It really all just depends on my mood. This post brought to you by the letter B. Favorite bands would be way too long to list. But I'll go ahead and **** Terpy off with a triple shot of videos. In the end though, AC/DC to ZZtop , and most anything in between. Before edit thought, Aerosmith, what a band.

Watching videos on YouTube made me want to ride Wild One. Sadly the reputation of the park it is in, and a bit of fatigue from a whirlwind tour of 1,400+ miles and 3 parks in 4 days, made me pass. It really does look fantastic though.

KY: GUNTOWN MOUNTAIN
NoChickens replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have a few vague memories of that place. The chairlift ride up, and some shows at the top. I don't actually remember any rides, but it was a long time ago. I really can't see keeping the nostalgia, while changing the entire theme of the place. Maybe I'm missing something. -
An area with an umbrella or 2 would be awesome, when the rain comes there is not 1 covered area to go to. Unless even I have missed one.

Being one of the dreaded smokers, I still have to agree. When the fountains ran it was a wonderful place to just relax awhile. With it's size I could even see moving the smoking area to the back corner. I've never been in there with more than 5 or 6 people smoking at a given time. The area is way to big and scenic, ( or was), to be used only for a smoking area. When the water elements ran, it really was quite tranquil.

As with all opening days at our home park. We plan to be there, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Sorry to double post, but what a sad article. "As we move up to modern times and into the cyber age. We had witnessed the explosion of the Internet and our nation was rapidly expanding with real-estate sales of all types. Real Estate Sales were basically on steroids and America was in transformation and taking on a new shape. The locals and municipalities of P.C.B. desperately wanted to shed the image of the Redneck Riviera. The City wanted to begin to earn what they felt these properties were truly worth and what they felt they should be making since this was in fact Premium Beachfront Property. It was decided to loose the Miracle Mile Image also known in slang as the The Redneck Riviera. The transformation would be marketed as The Emerald Coast" due to the Blue/Green color of the waters depending upon the time of day. The pressure began to mount on current business operators of the day and unfortunately this park along with others in the area's days of operation would be limited." And here we are, 10 years later, and it sits as an eye sore, an overgrown lot with abandoned buildings that used to house rides and attractions. That is unless something has changed since the 2010 photos included on page 2 of the article. I think there may be a lesson to be learned here. EDIT: I misread, as of 2010 it was completely leveled, the pictures were taken before. -

Outstanding! Thank you kind sir. I think I even looked at that page before and missed it. I knew this site would come through. -
After going to coaster-count.com, and filling in my rides, I noticed an omission of a spinning wild mouse I had ridden at Miracle Strip Amusement Park. I contacted coaster-count, and they initially e-mailed me back saying I had most likely confused it with another park. After adding more details, they e-mailed me again, and now acknowledge it's existence. It is now listed on both coaster-count.com, and rcdb.com. Sadly, it is listed as unknown, on both sites. Does anyone else remember this ride? If so a name would be grand, and better yet some photos. They asked if I had any photos, unfortunately, I do not. Any help would be appreciated.

Cornball Express. Cause the wife loves it.

Why not sue the billboard company instead? Wouldn't there have been a contract involved? Sounds fishy to me, but at least it might be a good PR move. "We misled you on ticket prices last fall, but this makes up for it". Or, " We desperately need good PR, and advanced cash"

The last 1980 Kings Island home video I can make.
NoChickens replied to VideoFromGeorge's topic in Kings Island History
Naturally, my first VCR was a Betamax in 1984. Life is full of choices, some right, some wrong ;-) -
Such a gem. I mean Terpy, not the rides in question. As he approaches 50,000 posts, and can be frustrating as heck, a true asset for this site.

You state they own many luxury apartments and condos Then state the closest to KI, runs about $895/month. I don't know much about rental rates in Cincinnati, but that hardly sounds like a "luxury" rate. Being unfamiliar with the area you quoted, I don't know how far away from KI it is, or if it's location is less desirable.

Mystery Object (Track, Supports, or something else?)

Good find, relevant and so much more! -
Hopefully the local government will see it that way as well, though I doubt it. If the planning has gone this far, I'm sure they've already lobbied the local politicians for support. These large property companies will have done "research" that will undoubtedly paint a great and rosy, (and undoubtedly highly profitable) picture. Sadly in cases like this, the long term impact will likely not match the short term gains. I had high hopes, as it seems others have had as well, that Cedar Fair would have seized this opportunity to protect their interests in the area. An apartment complex, no matter how "luxurious", is an apartment complex. In it's time, the KII&CC, was considered to be quite nice. IMHO the area has already been overdeveloped. To add a residential zone that close is asking for problems in the long term.
