January 24, 20197 yr @upstop It's like I have asked before. SoB wasn't removed for several seasons. So, why is Firehawk coming down so much quicker? You woulda thought they would knock SoB down quicker, with all the negative publicity. Yet, Firehawk was still loved by a larger majority. It's almost gotta be something huge and soon.

SOB closed without notice and they didn't know what they were going to do with it. That's why they left it up for those years.

I don't agree with that. They knew they didnt want to run it anymore, therefore, could have torn it down sooner, but didnt. Ironic it came down (almost) right before Banshee. @SonofBaconator Yep. Seen that quite a few times.
January 24, 20197 yr @sixohdieselrage That's a interesting point. They did say the decided to tear down Firehawk in the middle of the season. If we do get a giga, was it supposed to be somewhere else?

If that is true, it probably was supposed to be on the left side of FOF in that open area, but plans changed when they decided to remove Firehawk. Also, Firehawk is prime location right there and could be used for a better attraction.

January 24, 20197 yr I had asked them about scraps a day or so ago, and they said they will not be selling any scraps of the ride. What's gone is gone.

When B&M comes in, the park shows them the area they want the coaster and the basics of what they want and B&M custom builds the ride for the site. Thats oversimplifying it, but to change the location, it would pretty much mean starting over with the designs and engineering. That's not something you do late in the process. If it's going on the Firehawk plot, it was probably always going on the Firehawk plot.
January 25, 20197 yr Another example of Kings Island waiting to tear something down until construction on a new ride is ready to go- look at how long Son of Beast sat SBNO. They didn't tear it down until Banshee construction was ready to get going.
January 25, 20197 yr Also what if the bid (for the demo company) for removal of SoB took longer then for Firehawk? Maybe that held up the SoB removal. I am just guessing due to the sheer size of Sob and the amount of wood. idk.

The wait was due to options being explored, They spent multiple years contacting nad getting proposals for potential fixing of the ride from companies like GCI, RMC, and such, that was realesed in the sattement on the descion to remove by the park, it simply also came down to the factors of not wantign to dump more money into it, and the fact that at that specific time with the ride closed the park was doing well enough that a new attraction wasnt needed to take the place of SOB's land so it sat, while the options were explored coming tot he descions to tear it down as the only viable option.

Actually, I’ve heard from numerous people that there were inquiries into making SOB an RMC. The structure of the ride was so poorly designed, that from an engineering standpoint, it would be practical to raze the ride and build an RMC from scratch, which means that instead of looking at a SOB renovation, you’re looking at a replacement project.
January 25, 20197 yr ^^They knew that beforehand with the forensics report from the 2006 accident. The 2007 re-furb was just CF's own band-aid approach to save it because of the kind of ride it was. Just look at how little was done for that refurb including the trains they acquired for it.

To be fair, CF inherited the mess when they purchased the park. I think when the park got Diamondback in 2009, it was much easier for them to let SOB go.
January 25, 20197 yr There are photos floating around Facebook (I won't share them here because I'm not 100% sure how they were obtained) that suggest the station has already been demolished. If true, does that suggest an earlier construction timeline than previously speculated?

By not posting the pics directly, you shouldn't be in violation of the TOS. And, the timeline is clearly an April 2020 opening of the new ride. Wherever they are in the process will be with that in mind. Weather delays or speed ups to get ahead of potential weather delays might change where they are at in the process, but not the end goal.
January 25, 20197 yr Hopefully this doesn’t go against the TOSbut here is the link to photos showing the station is gone and demo is almost complete.https://m.facebook.com/?_rdr#!/story/graphql_permalink/?graphql_id=UzpfSTE2Nzk0NzQ4OTkxNzMwMzoyMzMyNTcwMDcwMTIxNjkwSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
