  1. Finally gave up on waiting for my pass to arrive in the mail and drove to the park today. I was in and out of the season pass center in literally less than a minute with this: Now watch the original pass show up in tomorrow's mail. Overall, the park seems decent this year. The only area I can seriously complain about is food service. On both lunch (Swampwater Jack's) and dinner (Junior's BBQ), I had to wait a couple minutes for someone to even recognize I was waiting for service, then a couple more for that person to find someone else who actually knows how to serve the food (?) and then even longer while that person wastes time chatting with other co-workers instead of serving customers. And yes, I had to go through all three of those steps on both meals. Also, the pulled pork sandwich at Junior's BBQ was so rancid that I literally took three bites and threw it away. I couldn't get it replaced since they were already closing down and cleaning up (to be fair, I did walk in about two minutes before they were scheduled to close for the day), so I went to Guest Services and filled out a complaint form. Guest Services did not offer a refund, so I went hungry since I was out of cash and did not bring a credit card. I ran out of time and didn't get back to Twisted Twins to see if any work was being done. I saw one train cycle on T3, but that was it as far as testing. A very short time later, I snapped this shot from near T3's entrance: Yes, that's a maintenance guy studying something with binoculars. From the angle, it looked like he was studying the lift hill, but I might be wrong. The employee sitting outside the fenced-off entrance emphasized the words "very soon" when saying that it would open very soon, but somehow I don't believe that. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised for T3 to eventually be advertised as "new for 2016!", and then fail to open on time again. I did, however, buy a T3 shirt: I wonder if that will suddenly become valuable on eBay if for some reason T3 never reopens? And on a final note, I present a representative sample of the handrails on the stairs to the station in Thunder Run's queue: ...yeah.

  2. When the park expands X base, I would encourage them to build a restroom building as well! As it is, the nearest ones are at either end of Coney.

  4. After visiting Holiday World's waterpark i am seriously spoiled by how much better it is than S.C. (in my opinion) so I would love to see them add to S.C.

  9. Come out to Coney Island to celebrate the 4th of July a day early on July 3rd. There will be hot air balloons glowing from 8pm to 10pm on the Moonlite Mall behind the Dodgems ride. Admission to see the balloons is free (parking rates still apply). At 10pm Rozzi`s Famous Fireworks will put on their typical amazing display over the banks of Lake Como. Also, don`t forget to check out Sunlite Pool (which will be open until 9:30 and Coney`s classic rides, which will be open until 11pm! Be sure to check out TopSpin and Fender Bender, the two new rides for this season. And if you didn`t visit Coney last year, be sure to check out Wipeout! Normal rates apply for Sunlite Pool and Coney`s classic rides. Parking is $8 before 2pm and $10 after 2pm. I will be working all day that day, so if you are going to Coney that day, you just might see me. If you do, be sure to say hi! For more information, visit Coney`s website here: http://coneyislandpark.com/larosas-balloon-glow

  12. I admit when I saw Captain Picard made a thread on KIC I was a little excited. He's one of the original members of KIC.

  13. I heard KI's this year (the ride op turned it on for us after we begged) and I agree, it was out of tune, but you haven't truly heard an out of tune carousel organ until you've heard Conneaut Lake Park's. I couldn't believe the dissonance emanating from that thing last year, and it's the same this year according to the video that chugh43 posted on Facebook earlier this month. KI's is nowhere near as bad.

  16. I could see the waterpark getting an expansion. When weather is good, that place draws a HUGE crowd. However I wouldn't be surprised if Rivertown is up next, it's been somewhat neglected in ways for awhile unless you count RHoF as an expansion. Something makes me think that the box will potentially be utilized in some way. If not, I'd bet at least the blacktop gets ripped up finally at minimum over there. My thing is I'd like to see: Eiffel Tower repainted (It's borderline terrible, it's rusted and flaking like hell) Band Organ fixed for good (pay someone to do it right, last years half assed job was great and all, but it didn't last, and early this year it sounded like crap) Fix lights on everything. There's no reason Vortex chaser lights should be burnt out, or the Carousel, or anything. This isn't the Kinzel era. Cedar Point was a night and day difference with Ouimet and it looks much better. Fix this here. Find something to do with the majority of Tower Gardens and the old Starlight area. Just grass is somewhat wasteful to me. There's so much room to utilize. Also while add it, fix or get rid of International Showplace... Make the fountains on the Street like the ones at Kings Dominion with the black bottom an dancing fountains. I'd love to see the pedestal deals stay incorporated as they look great, however, if they left I wouldn't be completely bummed considering what the new fountains can do and how it'd look They did all that one year, I'd be happy, no park improvement, no large capital addition, nothing. Just give me some TLC and some fresh stuff, and I'm a happy dude. However I'm not the target market, some people want a capital expense, so it is what it is.

  17. I made my first trip of the year to the park on Sunday and one of the shops on International Street has some retro Kings Island shirts. The have shirts for King Cobra, the original Bat, and old style Beast shirt and a grand opening Kings Island shirt from 1972. I got the King Cobra shirt for my mom because that was her favorite ride. I love these shirts and I hope they get more shirts of old rides.

  18. Epic meh. I mean, I wasn't impressed by DisneyQuest in 2012, but I also don't follow the NBA and suck at basketball. So I really couldn't care less.

  19. There are apparently twins working at Panda Express. It threw me off for a bit, one young man served me my food and then I walked down to the cashier. To see the "same" guy. I thought at first maybe my attention wavered.

  21. I've always thought a nice Zamperla Hawk 48 (like Kennywood's Aero 360 and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's Hammerhead Shark) would be a lovely addition to said grassy area. Four forward- and four backward spins on an inverted "Kamikaze"-style flat would be an awesome thrill! It could be themed however the park sees fit, and, after seeing the epic lighting packages of WindSeeker and Shake, Rattle & Roll, who knows what kind of nighttime coolness guests would encounter coming up out of Rivertown! Look whatcha did! You got me daydreaming!

  30. Junior's may have improved since last year, I just have not been in a hurry to go back after trying Taco Tequila. I have had the Fish, Chicken and Brisket tacos there and they were all good.

  31. I haven't tried Taco Tequila yet. I went in to the Italian place (can't remember the name) and left because the food in the warmers looked terrible. Swamp Water Jack's was not much better, but I asked them to make "new" food and they did and it was actually decent. Junior's was good for me! I liked the pretzel roll bun.

  32. I have to agree about the BBQ at Junior's. I ate there once last year and it was not impressive. Swamp Water Jack's is just typical amusement park quality. The new Taco Tequila place is actually very good. I have eaten there three times this season and all three times the food was great and the service was prompt and friendly. It's by far the best place to eat in the park.

  35. I went today with the 9 YO and 11 YO. We arrived there around 6 after stopping at Jimmy Johns for dinner (They will deliver to the KI drop-off location near the sign, BTW, if you want to do a parking lot sandwich picnic. They need 24 hour notice for large orders and party trays, though, FYI.) Because of the morning rain and expected evening showers, the place was not crowded. First we went straight to The Beast, which was a 15 minute wait. It is fun sitting behind the kids and watching them bounce around. Next up was Vortex, where we walked right on. We started to get in line for WindSeeker, but they closed it as we were entering the line due to incoming weather conditions. We looked behind us, and the skies were dark. We backed out of line and thanks to the shoes the 9 YO was wearing (normal Nike athletic shoes), she was able to ride Flight of Fear for the first time. It turns out the 11 YO never rode it before either. They loved watching the story on the TVs during the 20 minute wait. They loved the ride also. The last time I rode it was about 5 years ago. When we exited, everything was dripping wet and people are wearing ponchos. We apparently missed a rain storm while inside, and walked out to sunny skies, and even fewer people in the park. The coaster gods were watching out for us. The 9 YO wanted to ride Zephyr, but the 11 YO thought it would be a good time for Diamondback. I let the 11 YO head to Diamondback while I rode Zephyr with the 9 YO. It tuns out that everybody's plan was to go to Diamandback as soon as the rain let up, because the 11 YO said the line was larger than when we arrived so she returned without riding it. I also think that the line was large because they were doing dry runs after the storm. Next we walked over to Banshee, which was a 10 minute wait. The Nike shoes came in handy again on Invertigo, which was a walk-on, but we chose to wait 2 trains for the rear car. We ended the day on The Bat, which was also a walk-on, but we waited for 2 trains to be in the front car, and ended up with great views of the fog in valleys adjacent to the park. It was now 9 o'clock, and time to go home. We rode 6 coasters and a family ride in 3 hours. It was a pretty good time at Kings Island today.

  36. It is fair to note that this year the Kingdom seems to be avoiding the bad publicity and bombast created last year by its patron saint and de facto CEO. That's a very good thing. Hopefully, this continues the rest of this season.

  47. Rule number 1 - always be prepared. 2.layer clothing, its easier to take off rather than put on 3.travel light. 4. expect to store stuff if you have to. 5. there's going to be fog, sorry. 6. Don't want to be scared, buy the flashy thing. (Although I TOTALLY agree about the screaming) 7.Haunt is for Haunt enthusiasts, not coaster enthusiasts, coasters are only an added benefit....as a matter of fact, without Haunt, the season would end after Labor Day....you have all season to ride night rides......also rides were NEVER a part of original Fearfest, they came about as a result of Fearfest overflow the following weekend, and only The Racer, Monster and Scrambler opererated. All ot this is said in good fun, so please don't take it personally. ;-) Viva la Haunt!!!!

  48. Those things should be banned everywhere. The first time I saw one was this past December when we visited the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (featured in the Dolphin Tale movies, which my daughter is a big fan of so we just had to see Winter & Hope while we were down there). We were at the stingray pool and we saw a man take this stick with a camera on the end of it and dunk it into the pool so he could apparently get underwater shots of the stingrays! Seriously?!? We saw a few more of these a few days later at Magic Kingdom; none on the rides but a few during Wishes. It wasn't until we got home that we learned these things had a name and were becoming a thing.
