If the park was so concerned about people videoing testing, maybe they should have thought twice before signing off on a 300-foot coaster. That they built such a highly visible ride, then expect us to just look away when it starts testing again, is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard in a while.10 points

^yeah that’s true if we’re talking about going over and being on park property, flying over park property anything like that. But if I want to set up a webcam at my house that’s facing Kings Island that has absolutely nothing to do with the park and there wishes. That’s my property and the park has no say about that. Absurd to think anything otherwise.8 points

This is the largest investment in the park's history and people have a right to be interested in seeing it test. Nobody is being TMZ, nobody is trespassing in the park. Again, it's such a massive ride, it's impossible to miss seeing it testing.7 points

Can we please be nice to each other on here? It seems like we have this kind of argument every month and it's getting annoying.7 points

The footage that KI released of Orion testing is much better than anything that could be captured from Great Wolf, KI passenger drop-off, or the Sunoco station. The park has made general requests to enthusiasts over the years to avoid becoming the off-season park paparazzi.7 points

Google doesn’t need permission to take and publish pictures of your house, from the street or space. At this time the law is clear on this issue. Ethical issues are always up for debate.7 points

That’s a reach. That would be like the bengals constructing a new stadium and telling people not to watch. Tell me explicitly where Kings Island asked us not to. I’m not talk about enter onto the pickup or anything like that I get it. Where have they said not to record Orion from off property? Telling us to get official information from them is you reaching.7 points

May I ask why it matters so much? Im not trying to ruffle feathers. I just don’t understand why it’s a big deal whether a fence is added or not. Historically the park has often erected a wooden fence to shroud areas from view of the public. Sometimes for esthetic reasons, sometimes to mask what’s going on behind them. Just to name few - when KCKC was torn down, a wooden fence was added. Same for King Cobra, Xtreme Raceway (I think it was called), Kings Mill Log Flume, Food stand in Rivertown (pre MT), Sunshine Turnpike, and most recently Firehawk (Probably more but all I can think of right off the top of my head.). Back in the day - during the original Run of Winterfest - entire areas of the park were masked by wooden fencing to deter guests from accessing closed sections (rear of Rivertown, Coney Mall, Wild Animal Habitat etc) If I were to guess, Id expect them to put a wooden fence up along the midway from Rivertown to Coney Mall. If nothing else, to hide a currently unattractive area of the park (not to mention build mystery.) It would (or will) be a loooong fence to cover all that area - however. My prediction is it’s probably shocking to see the large plot of land sitting empty. It would make sense if they had to remove a lot of trees and foliage growth to demolish Vortex. They likely destroyed a lot of the soil under Vortex with equipment. That having been said, I would think they’d want to at least attempt to mask the vacancy and disturbance to the landscape. If you’re concerned about being able to see the site - there’s always the view from the Tower. But the park has been pretty clear that nothing immediate will be happening in its spot. (Make no mistake, however, something IS going to go in that area.) But bottom line - if they do or if they don’t, it’s not a big deal. At least not as big a deal as many on here like to make things out to be from time to time. Just sayin’5 points

No one here is arguing, debating yes which is fine. Moreso the community is sharing shared frustration which is perfectly healthy especially since the entire topic is question has been very abstract from the park in the last decade and has been time and time again been disproven. I openly do want to continue hearing from everyone on this topic because it does open doors for discussion and can help lead everyone perhaps to a better understanding of the whole subject matter. Our community is stronger than ever guys! Our reputation is good! Don't think otherwise, you guys are awesome!5 points

I think what the park doesn’t want is a ton of people hanging out in the surrounding subdivisions and business property becoming a nuisance. While not against the law do so, that kind of behavior is annoying on a large scale. However I don’t think there are hoards of people doing that so it is all really a non-issue.5 points
-
This again... -No there is no law against filming/taking photos from off property -Yes you can fly over the park -Kings Island saying pretty please don't do something doesn't mean it's law Lastly this would not repeatedly come up if the park was forward in the first place instead up being abstract. How hard is it to say, "For the safety of our team leading the construction we will be for the remainder of the build shut down our webcams, Thank you for understanding"5 points
-
And if they are in fact asking you to not record there 300 foot rollercoaster which can be seen from well around mason then they are in fact out of line.5 points

I think we can all agree that what is required by law and what the park requests may be two different things. Any concerns of these policies need to go directly to the park. We should not be arguing with each other about it on KIC. Having a civil discussion about policies is fine, but arguing with each other just hurts the reputation of enthusiasts. Any more arguing will be cleaned up. I have tried to change that, it does not giving any text formatting options to change it. Sorry.4 points

I'm hoping for a ground up RMC roller coaster to take the footprint of Vortex. My guess is 2022 for the new roller coaster. I know Cedar Point and Knotts didn't get anything for their anniversaries, but here's the thing. Cedar Point is spending millions on new restaurants, the new brick midway, and just recently the new toll booths. So all three of those right there probably equal a roller coaster cost. I'm not sure what Knotts spent they're money on, but I'm sure it was park improvements too.3 points

But do you have a background source or anything that a fence is being built right now? Or is it just what you think is happening?3 points

Oldschool75 would fall under one of the members that we should not question their credibility and thus you shouldn't request him to name a source.... as posted from another thread ....2 points

All I can say is it certainly will be interesting how this all plays out. Will it affect the theme park business? It seem to already be a reality for parks in Asia. Here in America, it really depends. It will depend on how bad the virus affects the people and what steps parks can take to step up hygiene for visitors. When I said "steps parks can take to step up hygiene for visitors", what I specifically meant was will parks provide resources for hygiene like hand sanitizing stations or just something to people who visit the park so people have that option to reduce the risk of infection and/or spreading the virus. All we can really do now besides speculate is watch the progress of this new virus and put faith in scientists developing a vaccine. And of course, practice good hygiene whenever possible!2 points

^ive been saying this whole time talking about recording exclusively off property and not with a drone. That should be known by now by all (hopefully) that it shouldn’t be done.2 points
-
I just got back from rides general knowledge and what I know is that you are supposed to stop a ride if you see a drone over your ride. You are also supposed to alert someone if you see a drone in the distance. So please guys let's not get too far into this argument and don't try to fly a drone near the park.2 points

Heck I'll take a new Vekoma after what I've seen from them! :p I just hope whatever it is, it's got lots and lots of inversions!2 points

They’ve asked us repeatedly. The fact they had to tweet out a think to tell us to get official information from KI’s official channels is a pretty good indication they don’t want us doing that regarding their construction projects. Just relax, watch Stranger Things, and wait the 6 weeks until opening.2 points

I also like to start unsubstantiated rumors due to vague references and this is my guess... I think we will get the monster truck experience and it may happen in the now empty plot that Vortex was in.2 points

Cedar Point and Knott's are celebrating big anniversaries this year (150 and 100) and are they getting coasters? No. The fact that CP did not build a coaster for their anniversary makes me rule out a coaster for Kings Island's 50th completely. I think 2022 will be a celebration year. Coaster 2024-25 and it doesn't have to be in The Vortex plot of land if they do what I think they'll likely do.2 points

Pretty sure I saw on a Cedar Point winter chill out video they had the panel and a brake from Vortex setup in one of the shops. The guy on the video kept setting it off. Staff said it was only running about 20% power and wouldn't be enough to stop a train at that moment. I thought it was cool they set it up and let people play with it.2 points

Tim Fisher was general manager when Son of Beast was built, but it was Al Weber that greenlit the ride in the first place. The decision to remove Vortex was more of the ride reaching the end of its lifespan than it was an attempt to modernize the park.2 points

This is the KIC faux version of Mike Baxter, Man, writing to you today about that awkward phase all of us experience called, childhood. If you’re a boy of a certain age, you have memories of going to the local K-Mart, Hills, Jamesway, or the Sears Christmas Catalog (Z’ers… look them up) to find a plastic die-cast model car. My favorite was the 1985 Pontiac Fiero (look that one up too). The wheels didn’t operate too well and you couldn’t really play with them- but WOW did they look good from afar on a shelf with other similar toys. But as you aged from single digits and onto teen years you stopped building and figured it was time to start destroying, or in my case- demolition derbies and a random imitation M80 I could find in July. But you never forget the memories of building it with a dad or friends and comparing them with friends. We resonate with images, sounds, and excitement of the past… then for some reason unknown we like to watch their demise. The Sanders Hall implosion on the UC campus was televised all throughout Ohio. The Sands Casino implosion in Las Vegas was literally a tourist attraction (not that I ever went there). A big part of my childhood into adulthood was memories made at Riverfront Stadium watching the Wire-to-Wire Reds. I was there when one batter in, John McSherry collapsed and passed away. Barry Larkin’s 30/30 season. The 1999 season. Ken Griffey Jr.’s first game as a Red. The last game in Sept. 2002 where they lost to the Phil’s… and the next night to see Pete Rose dive into the Riverfront 3rd base for the first time in 15 years. Not to mention to see the remnants of the Big Red Machine gather at the Stadium one last time before it closed. Riverfront Stadium was 1 year younger than Vortex when it closed. In those rickety hollow Arrow tubes held the memories of riding the once tallest and loopiest coaster. Driving past on I-71 during the winter when it was the only thing other than the tower you could see until 1999 (Drop Zone/Tower). As trivial as a coaster can be- I’ll forever recall the sounds of the trains hitting the lift hill. No other coaster sounded like that… the rattle of the steel as it came over the LaRosas in Rivertown. Not to mention once assuring my girlfriend at the time that I had been on it many times before and that she would love it. Problem- I had never been on it- or any other coaster of significance up to that time. Boy, was that an awkward hour afterwards. With that- I can’t help but be somewhat disappointed that Cedar Fair had such a lock-down on The Vortex deconstruction. A common phrase I’ve heard is that with Orion- they want people to be looking to the future rather than the past. The Reds began advertising the implosion of Riverfront Stadium a year before it fell- and it was a tourist and media spectacle giving way to a new Reds era at Great American Ballpark. But it went out in “public” fashion for any/all to see. They have their reasons and it’s their company and their money- they certainly don’t need my opinion. I just disagree. Baxter, out.2 points

Maybe they will turn it into a junkyard. You know, to fit the theming across the path.2 points

We all just need to wait patiently. There's only just over a month and a half left until we all get to ride it. If the park wants to keep something from being viewed by the public we shouldn't be going out of our way to undermine that.1 point

Shake, Rattle and Roll is considered Rivertown in the Rides department, but thematically it’s always been Coney Mall. Just like how the Eiffel Tower is on International Street, but Rides groups it into Planet Snoopy.1 point

I say make a SOB flame type thing for Vortex only more 80s in design with lots of neon or LED lights. One other thing I'll miss at night is seeing Vortex's chaser lights.1 point

I was thinking about this the other day (modernization), and realized Tim Fisher, who wanted to modernize KI when he was GM, is the COO of Cedar Fair. Probably no connection, but interesting nonetheless.1 point

I'd personally love to see a sign celebrating Vortex, similar to what Kings Dominion erected after Volcano was removed. The ride may be gone, but 33 seasons of memories will live on for a very long time.1 point

The loss of Vortex definitely modernized the Kings Island skyline. The oldest steel coaster over 100 feet is Invertigo. In the back of my mind, Invertigo doesn't really count as a major part of the skyline, so after that it's Diamondback. Which is just... wild. On another note, since Vortex was pulled down in narrow sections, I'm hoping they were able to drop it within the ride path and preserve the sections of trees.1 point

I would love something like this. I have always felt a steeplechase type themed blitz style coaster would be great there. A blitz coaster would be fun and having the hroses/steeplechase theme would be a good mix for it being nestled between Coney Mall and Rivertown. It kind of fits the theme for both.1 point
