Indeed. Under this proposal, middle school and high school minimum hours would increase from 1,001 to 1,210. The local high school here (Xenia) is scheduled for 1,259 hours this year. No change would be needed there. Middle schools here are scheduled for 1,189 hours this year, and would need just under seven extra minutes per day to meet the new requirement. Elementary schools here, which would see the minimum go from 910 to 1,100, are already scheduled for 1,098 this year, and would only need to add just under four minutes each day. In summary, it wouldn't really have much of an effect.

Taking my best friend to Kings Island
jcgoble3 replied to kingsislandfan1972's topic in Kings Island
Yes, most restaurants remain open when Haunt starts. However, Subway is just about the worst option in the park; the prices are nearly double what they are at a regular Subway store, you can only get 6-inch subs, limited bread choices, limited menu, limited veggies and sauces, and cold subs only because they have no microwave or toasting oven. You'll get far better bang for your buck at Skyline, Hank's, or Chicken Shack. If you choose to eat a packed dinner outside the park, check with Guest Relations earlier in the day to confirm exactly what time re-entry ends, and make sure you're back at the gate 10 to 15 minutes early to account for crowds and the possibility that your watch/cell phone and their clock may not match (in particular, it seems to me that KI's clock is typically a couple of minutes fast). -
Taking my best friend to Kings Island

When are you going? Outside food and drink must be left in your car and cannot be brought into the park, and there is no re-entry after Haunt starts. If you are visiting on a Friday, plan to eat after (or a short time before) Haunt starts on Saturday, or are being dropped off by someone else, then it will be necessary to eat in the park regardless of cost. Otherwise, packing a meal or two and eating it in the parking lot will likely be cheaper. -
Don't forget this! [picture removed] AAAAAHHHHHH!!!! MY EYES!!!

There is no re-entry after Haunt starts, period. This applies for everyone, including season pass holders.

3 new trademarks registered by Cedar Fair

A sports tournament? A game? If it's a midway game, why trademark it? A basketball tournament to be held on the 3-Point Challenge court? -
Interactive Park Maps Are Now At Kings Island

Very cool! Thanks for the demonstration video. I've never seen anything like this in an amusement or theme park before. I'm wondering if this was another one of Mr. Ouimet's brilliant ideas, or if this was a local idea from KI management. -

In terms of weight limits, in my two hours in the waterpark I couldn't help but notice a couple of prominent scales with signs saying that many slides have weight limits and guests should check their weight. On another note, HW enforces weight limits on Hyena Falls. The way they do it is that the lifeguard at the top must ask Every. Single. Rider. "Are you aware of the height and weight requirements for this ride?" and then "Do you meet those requirements?" If the lifeguards are doing their job, you literally cannot go down any of the Hyena Falls slides without knowing that there is a weight limit. It's repetitive for the lifeguards and annoying for riders marathoning the slides that have to answer those questions over and over, but it works.

On a Saturday during Haunt at dinnertime? It's hard to tell. I would expect the worst (hour-plus wait), and allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be less. When you check in at the podium, I believe they will ask for a cell phone number at which they can text you when your table is ready so you can go do other things while you wait. There is no online menu, but the host(ess) at the podium will happily allow you to look at a menu in advance.

Indy Zoo Skyride Strands 18

Department of Homeland Security? Really? And here I thought the department responsible for inspecting amusement rides couldn't be any stranger than Agriculture. Are they afraid that terrorists are going to tamper with a ride? -
Would you prefer Gold Star?

From the park's Facebook page: Anybody here going to try to claim the title of 50,000,000th rider?

Correct. You didn't. I was just pointing that out for the benefit of anyone who may not know that. -

Fixed link: http://www.screamscape.com/html/kings_island.htm Screamscape is anything but reliable. His "source" may very well be a random post on an internet forum like this one from somebody speculating. Hell, it very well could be a KIC post that was really nothing more than speculation. The "source" could even be this very thread. -
This is awesome. Not even the front row?

Eh, it's not bad. Last year I wanted two items. I showed up at 5:00pm, grabbed a wristband guaranteeing me a TV, then hid out in the Subway at the front of the store during the initial rush right at 6:00. At 6:15 I used an empty path through clothing to get to the back of the store, grab a Blu-ray player, then used semi-empty pathways to get to the storeroom doors in sporting goods where the TVs were being handed out and got mine. From there it was relatively smooth sailing to check out in Tire and Lube Express and then bypass the crowds at the front registers to head out to my car by 6:45. Easy, really. (Results may vary. )

Some of the slide complexes at KK have multiple types of tubes at the bottom, and different ones are required for different individual slides at that complex. For example, one slide might require yellow single or double tubes, while the one beside it might require green single tubes only.

Another back-row rider, I presume?

Firehawk, for the reasons given by rcwizard. Vortex, because it's the oldest steel coaster in the park and will probably be the first to be removed. But that's not likely to happen soon; she's still got plenty of life left in her, I think. Action Zone, because of Banshee and the accompanying improvements. Prior to this year I probably would have said Coney Mall.

Exactly at the moment I read the words "puff air into people's faces", I felt a light puff of air hit me in my right eye. There is nothing near my computer that could have created that puff. Creepy.
