Worlds of Fun ride removal rumors
disco2000 replied to OverlandTaxis30's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I am not saying it is the case and let's hope SIX never gets to this point, but the problem that is often the case is that you get a bean counter that simply looks at the dollars and cents and takes all emotion out of the decision. They say eliminate the ride with the highest O&M cost without taking other factors into consideration and that is how a popular ride that draws people gets eliminated. -

Slingshot was literally in the middle of getting repainted and then was stopped and torn out... -

Keep in mind we have seen this before at our own park... Did the guests that loved Slingshot get to say goodbye? Did the guests that loved Pipeline Paradise get to say goodbye? Granted one was a paid attraction and not everyone did Pipeline, but a ride has the distinction of being a favorite ride for somebody. Maybe KI once again was a test park for this new kinda rollout -

I am reminded of a quote that Jason McClure (former GM of CP and now Senior VP in SIX) has said and I have used it on the forum frequently as to why something may or may not be said from Corporate: "It is important to remember that Cedar Fair is a publicly traded company and that affects the type and timing of our communication." That simple statement says it all. There are countless of real world, everyday examples demonstrating this same technique in other businesses and industries. At the end of the day, they are not under any obligation to tell us the whole truth and thus they control the narrative and how it is presented (unless of course someone leaks it out earlier). The fact of the matter is someone in the know will not officially come out and say something against the narrative the park is telling...unless they don't care about potentially losing their job LOL.

Kings Island 2024 Food Reviews and Discussion

Didn't they tout some line to the investors about the merger would result in like $200M in savings by consolidating/eliminating positions, etc. Well, there were not enough positions/consolidations to eliminate to come close to $200M in savings, so they have to find it in other ways. Either cut capital expenditures or reduce operational expenditures....

So is announcing ride closures AFTER the season is over the new SIX norm?

Could the first 2 iterations have lasted longer had there been more rides.... My understanding is the 1st iteration attendance dropped every year to the point it wasn't worth doing. We all know why the 2nd iteration happened... I totally get the seasonal atmosphere and all that jazz, but people can get that from other places as well. Sure people would still want the event and a certain percentage would show up regardless (meal and drink plans LOL), but if next year they announced no rides, watch what happens to attendance. People think rides with KI. If rides were not important, they wouldn't be adding rides to the event.

I bet if rides didn't matter and they ran nothing, Winterfest would disappear. There is a reason they are adding rides to the lineup....

Sadly we have seen this trend coming for years, the "bait and switch" of the Prestige pass, etc. They get by on the fine print and caveat emptor.... Speaking of, have you been following the fiasco at Wonderland with their passes? They have many levels and had a regular pass that went on sale with the other passes in August for 2025. A little over two months later, they decided to eliminate the regular pass. They then moved everyone that had bought the regular pass (and the associated add-ons) prior to 11/8 up to gold free of charge and it became valid for WF 2024, including the freely upgraded add-ons. The Gold passholders are livid. They spent a lot more money for the gold and add-ons than they would have spent by buying a regular pass that then got a free gold upgrade. Passholders flooded Wonderland with complaints and requests for a refund of the difference between what they paid for the gold and add-ons and what the regular and add-ons sold for. They were told tough luck.... Now they have decided that IF, and only IF, you submit a complaint in writing, they will give you a BAF. But they are not offering that to everyone, only those that complain.

Isn't it sad that the level of trust is so eroded that you have to send an email asking this....
