  1. I usually aim for weekdays that have the highest predicted chances of rain each week, and it is very rare that storms last very long, and almost never has the park closed early because the storms are expected to last past the scheduled closing. I've visited a couple times a week when the park is open over the past few years, and there have only been a couple times where storms were persistent or severe enough to send me home. You can cancel your plans if you want to, but you may find that the light crowds are very much worth the need to take shelter for an hour or so during the day. Usually I take it as a much needed break from walking, because I stand in lines so little during the day on rainy days (most things are walk-ons). And, as long as there isn't lightning in the area, most rides still run in the rain. If the temperature is warm enough, it can be quite fun for the entire "dry" side of the park to become water rides. Just grab a raincoat or poncho and enjoy the day!
  2. However, they've continued the trend of slathering them in BBQ sauce rather than depending on the more subtle flavoring of slow-smoking. On the other hand, they gave about twice as much meat as last time I got the tri-tips.
  3. I live near Springboro which is about halfway between Dayton and Cincinnati. I just hop on 48, and take it down to the 48 bypass. I don't get on 71 in South Lebanon, because it's much prettier to take Mason Morrow Millgrove/Columbia Rd across. Or even Grandin, if I want to check out Peters Cartridge. Takes me almost exactly a half hour to drive most mornings.
  4. I voted no. It's something the park already owns and can make some money from, with very little investment in maintenance/upkeep. Its hardly prime real-estate (yay, right next to the parking lot), and the amount of work ($) that would be involved in removing or working with the concrete slab isn't worth the return. There are easier and better places in the park to add something new. There is plenty of congestion in Action Zone without adding a new ride to the area. If anything, I would like it to be used more. Live bands on Friday and Saturday nights in the summer (with or without upcharge) would give the crowds something else to do if they feel the ride lines are too long, and would give reason for water park visitors to stick around after Soak City closes.
  5. A 379' hill would be visible when you pull up in the parking lot, even if it was way back in the woods behind Beast... If/when we get a Giga, I'd prefer it was set back so the view from it while riding is more interesting than the parking lot.
  6. Chef Major is scheduled to be one of the speakers (at lunch Friday) according to a pic of the swag Don Helbig posted on the Coasterstock Facebook last week. Also, he has said we'll start getting our deliveries if we opted for pre-check, tomorrow (Wednesday). I saw a pic of someone who already got theirs today.
  7. I think that's very unlikely. He had just come through security, when that particular guard noticed him as he walked by simply filming the crowd (we can hear from the audio that he isn't being offensive to other patrons), then apparently jogged after him to tell him cameras aren't allowed. If he was being offensive to people before walking through security, chances are the multiple guards and officers there would have confronted him and we wouldn't be seeing this mild walk towards the gates. I would also hope that harassing behavior would be what a guard would address if that were the case, not the presence of a camera. And if his camera set-up was somehow suspicious or "too professional", I would also expect the guards and officers manning the metal detectors to take care of the situation rather than letting him through. This definitely seems to be a single guard deciding to make up a random "rule" that he needed to enforce.
  8. It's very easy to just not read threads one isn't interested in. If people are still posting, it is because they are still interested in discussion. If others feel it's just the same thing, stop coming to look. The Zimmerman article prompted people to want to discuss this some more, and this is the appropriate place to do so. Closing this thread would have meant that either another was started or it would have flowed into another established thread, maybe one not so obvious to avoid if one believes speculating about a possible Giga is beating a dead horse.
  9. The security guard appeared to not like that he specifically had been filmed by the guy. I had a similar thing where an employee tried to tell me I couldn't take pictures of something at Winterfest, that seemed more of an attempt to make sure I didn't take pictures of him (not a security guard in my case), even though I didn't want him in the picture either so... I went ahead and finished taking my pic and he got out of my way. I figured whatever reason he had for wanting to avoid being photographed, he probably didn't want his supervisors or security involved, so he just left me alone at that point. I know it isn't against park rules to take pictures when you aren't on rides (or in restrooms/changing rooms, obviously). I would personally have taken the OP video to guest services and asked for clarification of the rules on photography, and nipped that little power-trip in the bud by bringing the attention of his superiors, if that's what it was. It's what it looked like. By entering the park, we are agreeing to the possibility of being filmed or photographed for park promotion purposes (its on the back of every ticket and in our pass agreements), so it is a little silly for any employee to think they can or should bully people out of photographing or recording.
  10. I used to like to look through the chain link to see if any change had fallen from people's pockets on the brake run, so it became quickly evident to me something had changed. It also feels very claustrophobic even though the actual dimensions of the path haven't changed.
  11. Of Kings Island's 16 coasters (if you include Surf Dog), four are wood, and one is hybrid. That means 2/3 of the park's coasters are already steel. I wouldn't say it is impossible they might add another wood coaster next. That said, I don't think it's likely either.
  12. So, this was new from last time I rode Firehawk last year. The fencing around the track as one exited the ride used to be chain link. It is now this, all the way around.
  13. I think, ideally, they should have held this in the International Showcase. However if that wasn't an option for whatever reason, they could have gone with a set-up like they have for Blood Drums, blocking off and using an area in front of the stage as well as the stage itself. It makes for a much wider "front row" and moves people out to the area where the land starts to slope back up toward the Eiffel Tower, making it easier for everyone to see the actual stage. As it was I ended up relatively close to the stage at the first show Sunday but couldn't see very well below anyone on stage's waist (which is where a lot of basketball action tends to happen) and couldn't really see the kids on stage at all, because the people in front of me were standing on higher ground. The second show I was able to find a spot to stand on the wall at the base of the tower, so I could see fairly well until some guy walked back and put a child on his shoulders and stood roughly in front of me. The "rude behavior" witnessed by flightoffear1996 was actually heavily encouraged by the show itself. Before the players came out, the DJ made a very big deal about taking all kinds of pictures and videos and sharing them using #harlemglobetrotters. Then, nearly all kids who were chosen for the stage were only visible to be picked because they were on parents' shoulders.
  14. There was an announcement made about the time change over the PA: we heard it as we were rushing over after I saw the tweet. I only saw the tweet because it came right around the time I was tweeting about the Real Live Humans show in the Festhaus. I probably only really registered what the announcement was actually saying because I already knew, though, because they had been running several announcements about the shows throughout the day. I do think it was handled a little poorly, and the weather didn't really go sour until after the show would have been over if they kept the original time. I'm assuming that's why they had moved it earlier, but I could be wrong.
  15. I'd be cool with them moving Carn Evil to Urgent Scare (former Days of Thunder) and retiring Urgent Scare. I hope they don't entirely retire Carn Evil because it was one of my favorite Haunts. Not even so much the Haunt part, but just as a throwback funhouse. I would also approve of a permanent walk-through traditional funhouse of course!
  16. That is so weird. I got some a little after they opened and it was tasty
  17. I love the COSI Science and Explosions show that comes every year during Education Days. They've managed to make the explosion at the end even more exciting: I was planning to hold down the button to take a series of pics, but I was wrong about how quickly it was going to happen and hadn't started yet. I still managed to get a fairly perfect pic because I jumped and hit the button when it startled me If you happen to be in the park on an Education Day, be sure to check out this show! It's fun and you may even learn something
  18. ^well, it hasn't been an innacurate description in that time. Wasn't Tuesday the day off last year or am I misremembering?
  19. The "feature," with such an easily accidental activation, is only on the newest iPhones, which is probably why one doesn't hear about it happening more often, yet. As time goes on, and more people upgrade, this will most likely become a more widespread problem. Ultimately, Apple will probably either change the way it works or do an information campaign so people know more about what can cause an accidental 911 call. On my iPhone, which is from a previous generation, the same "feature" requires interaction with the screen after repeatedly hitting the button, so it is extremely less likely to be activated unintentionally.
  20. @MDMC01 pointed out to me today some new things are happening in Snoopy's Barnyard in preparation for this year's petting zoo. I'm pretty excited about this structure where the pond was last year, it seems to me it is tailor-made as a playground for baby goats: its a little hard to tell, but that bridge goes from a corral on the left over to a small platform suspended from chains that I imagine goats using as a swing. Over on the other side, beyond the exit path, there was this construction that I was unable to decipher
  21. Often Chick-fil-A is open as early as 10. On a day like that, one could get a second meal before leaving KI at 3, arriving at CP and getting #3 at 7PM, and another at 11 if it's a midnight close. Ignoring foot-travel times and making up for them with the generous 4 hour travel time KDD gave for interpark driving.
  22. I know I've mentioned it before, but I have always really liked the blue ice cream on dollar days, not just because of the price but because they are smaller than the towers of soft serve that you can get the rest of the season. I've often wished I could pay a somewhat reduced price for not quite so much ice cream. Somebody must have listened! We stopped by the location in Planet Snoopy because the people I was with wanted to get some ice cream. The young man behind the register asked if they wanted child sized or regular. The child sized isn't on the menu board, but apparently is available on the register, and it costs about $3.50 with passholder discount (regular is about $5.50). I had to get some too once I found out I could finally get a reduced size for reduced cost
  23. Fingers crossed in 2021 we'll finally get to have a New Years Eve countdown to midnight at the park!
