I have no inside information, but sodding the entire course of Orion would be cost prohibitive with more detriment than benefit. It would add quite a bit to the mowing bill too. It does need a covering, so maybe they will seed it with pasturegrass (KY 31 Tall Fescue) and sweet clover. That solves the erosion problem, it will look good, and they can just bush hog it monthly. Then again, they may seed it with turf-type fescue and mow it like they did with Diamondback. It will have vegetation eventually.

My wording was unclear--what I meant was that the gold tags and senior management were probably standing there mouth agape because they could have never expected it. They were likely as shocked as most of us are. They did not throw a punch, the idiots who engaged in the behavior did, the blame is 100% on them. I didn't mean to imply that they should have. I am not an SME of risk management, my knowledge is cursory. But I would think that weather, mass shootings, fire, medical emergency, ride malfunction and even tower jumpers are things they have prepared for. Something as large scale that required a complete pivot of operations that happened yesterday, I would imagine would be unexpected. But they can add this to the playbook to prevent it and know how to react if tht fails.

I would imagine what happened is probably in their top five worst nightmare. Give them a break they did not throw a punch. I would imagine that most of us would have the same reaction. I don't think their risk managers could have prepared for this, but they can learn from it.

Not at the park today, I had to work. But all my KI Facebook groups are filled with stories of fighting at the park. What in the world? One post said there was a particularly violet fight near Sweet Spot/The French Corner with heads being bashed into the pavers. This was told by someone who identified themself as a Sweet Spot employee. Also, parking lot and drop off area fights. I hope the people who were involved with these fights (if the reports are true) are banned and fully prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I slept in that morning, and was at Jungle Jims when I got the notification around 1:30. I promptly headed over to KI and arrived at 205. Was able to eat, ride Dback x2, Mystic Timbers x2 and The Beast x1, so yes, you are correct. Saturday, I did Racer x2, AE and Orion. Did eat x2 but that was with being in the park from 1130 until 1030. I wasn't upset, but the sun was out before I left. By the time I got to downtown Cincy, the wind was fierce and it was raining buckets. It stayed this way until Sadieville (in KY), with bad winds and heavy rain. If that was heading towards KI, they absolutely made the correct call.

Wow, you seemed pretty bitter 9 hours ago with your posts. Has the replacement of the tacky picnic tables worn off?

The charm I am speaking of is that to me, it retains much of the original Taft feel. Granted, KI has come a long way in restoring that charm to KI but when I visited KD a few years ago, it felt much like the KI of the old days. Trees everywhere (But I think they need to remove them on IS). They had flags on the buildings and the stenciling was very well themed. The music was appropriate to the area. For the most part, the "lands" were appropriately themed. The walkway from the Tower back to CAG was beautiful. TR: Firefall, while a Paramount/Viacom/CBS addition was so much fun to watch and they had maintained extensive theming. Flowers were everywhere. They had statues on International Street that looked European. Around the base of the Tower, they had a history of the park written into stones--I assume they had repurposed the Paramount Story instead of just turning the stones over. Racer 75 and Grizzly were smooth as butter. Racer 75 had been repainted red, white and blue. -

Paramount/Viacom/CBS did this park no favors. The coasters they put in, while thrilling, were not capable of sustaining the park. Volcano: The Blast Coaster was incredible and a terrible loss for the park. Shockwave and The Hurler--not so much, their replacements were wise. Then add the decision to put in I-305 which has not seemingly given the park the ROI CF expected, then the tax breaks to Carowinds and we have what we have today. I hope and pray that CF takes a long look at KD. It is worthy of a strategy to build on to what it once was. Solid Planet Snoopy. Excellent entryway. Charm out the wazoo. I am hoping what they are doing to Safari Village is going to set the stage for a revival. KD has excellent bones. -

I didn't get that from this small snippet. What I got was that she was upset her souvenir cup would not fit into the new lockers. But I could be very wrong about what she she is worked up about. And the lockers may fit a souvenir cup. -

Wow, lots of negativity towards CP! IMHO, even on the worst day, CP is better than the best Six Flags park. I've had bad days there but never a "I'm never coming back" day. As mentioned earlier--international workforce is gone this year. They do not have a labor pool to draw from like other CF parks. Their pay is good. Even parks like KI in larger employment markets have a hard time filling positions and have relied on international workers. Then there are the Intamin downtime issues added into the weather issues with other rides. Add in the pent up demand that is going to be at all parks this summer, and you are going to have a bad time if you don't set your expectation appropriately. -

Unless they got some needles and threads and spent A LOT of time, they did not sew grass. They SOWED grass seed. -

Maybe they will retheme it to become more appropriate to the area. -
1st timer to Carowinds

I was impressed with Harmony Hall. Lots of variety and good food. Chickie and Petes was terrible, but so was it and Cedar Point (I guess I just dont like that kind of food!). I wanted to try Wings when I was there but didn't, I think it is the Country Kitchen now. I haven't been there in 5 years. -

Coasters are subjective. People rave about Maverick, for me it's just OK. Many hate Magnum XL-200, but I love it. The problem with enthusiasts comes into play when people state their opinion about a ride as a fact. Coasters have facts: TTD is 420' tall, launches you from 0-120 in 4 seconds and often is down are facts. Just like Orion is 287' tall, goes 91 mph and has demonstrated reliability. Stats are stats, but someone may favor TTD to Orion and another may like Apple Zapple better than both of them. -
Who is excited to try the Blue Ice Cream Ale by Sonder? I'm not a beer drinker, but I might just have to try one of these.

Congratulations to her! Things like this are why KI is so ingrained into my psyche...childhood memories and the escape it offers. I am sure she will cherish these photos in the years to come!

The point of enthusiast "media" sites is to get clicks and drive traffic. Ever notice how so many things are BREAKING NEWS of titles use the word "We" and alot of capital letters? Just like traditional media, outlandish headlines sell.. I'm still wondering if there is going to be a discussion of the "land clearing" around The Beast queue or the Adventure Express queue.

I still find it humorous that people think this is land clearing.

The Racer 2020 Off Season Track Work
BeeastFarmer replied to Kyle Kruthoffer's topic in Kings Island
I rode both Blue and Red and really enjoyed it! Hopefully they will retrack from the turn around back to the brake run for next season because it is now evident of how needed it is! Ever since I rode Racer 75 in 2016, I was hoping Racer would run as well. I (mostly) got that wish yesterday! -
My first meal was at the French Corner--KI Smoked Ham meal. I also got a berry crepe. As has been mentioned, the portion size is small, but that could be a good thing...yesterday it was not, but it gave me the impetus to try the crepe, which was HUGE and very tasty. My second meal was Coney BBQ. I got the sirloin which was very good. Kind of hard to trim off the fat with a paper plate, but that is the issue with getting table service quality food to go. I was going to get the smoked sausage, but it did not look like it was cooked well. I have been dissapointed with the pulled pork, so I did not get it--it kind of looked like the pork that was on the BBQ sandwiches in my elementary school--a uniform light orange color and almost ground beef appearance. For the sirloin, I had 4 pieces of meat that were about the size of a dollar bill. After trimming off the fat, it was still a good amount of food. Today, I just had one meal because I saw the park was closing at 3. (I was at Jungle Jims at 1:30). So I had Skyline which was good. Still had time to ride Dback x2, Mystic and The Beast. Not a bad haul for less than an hour!
-
I don't think there would be any way they could have prepared for yesterday! In spite of the challenges, I cannot say enough positive things about the employees. They were slow, but smiling and cheery. The only closed places I saw were: Rivertown Freestyle, Rivertown refill by arcade, Rivertown Funnel Cakes, Subway. (Funnel and Subway could have been because it was later in the day.) Paradise Island was open, which seems rare to me!
-
Land clearing? That is a stretch. More like removing trees that are at the end their service lives. They also did this around The Beast queue and the Adventure Express queue. The also "mauled" a few of the Autumn Blaze Maple trees on the midway in the Area Formerly known as Coney Mall.

I like the Bea Arthur analogy! I would be the guy towards the right scratching his head wondering why they built this obtrusive lighting truss and video screen that will be used an hour a day. ****Note: I reserve the right to like this live entertainment later if it is better than the concept art.
