Well, 2025 starts tomorrow and there is quite a future to look forward to:

  • 2025 will be the first full season of Six Flags
  • We have River Racers debuting in Soak City, the first addition to Soak City since Tropical Plunge in 2016
  • We will probably, at some point, start seeing signs of the 2026 "family thrill attraction"
  • Lastly, possible 2025 offseason removals.

Personally, I'm counting down the days until April. I cant wait for the off season to end!

Hoping for a good season. I'd like to see some updates to the park app this season as well as ironing out any post merger issues. River racers will be good for the water park visitors of which I am not one. I'm thinking we will see signs of the family thrill attraction with an announcement later in the season. Also, if they are planning any ride/coaster removals at the end of next season I hope they take final rides and fans feelings/memories into consideration. Vortex and Firehawk both had good send-offs and we understand that certain circumstances result in ride removals (few coasters last forever) but I would be thankful for a last chance at riding anything that is potentially being removed

The 2025 summer show lineup will likely include the return of Country Crossroads and Trailblazers Xtreme, along with potentially a longer run of Gazillion Bubbles at the KI Theater. Presumably the Bandstand will see a new production with RetroSpect having finished the usual two-season run.

I believe KD is getting Gazillion bubbles as it sorta was teased in their 50th anniversary video awhile back. It could also come to KI too as the show is put on by more than one person.

If bubbles doesn't return, I'd like to see Brad Ross come. He just did 2 seasons at Carowinds and I believe he was very well received.

The successful run at Kings Island will likely see Gazillion Bubbles at multiple Six Flags parks in the coming years.

Judging by a dancer audition post at the time it appeared that the Brad Ross show almost came to Kings Island in 2020 before everyone's plans for that summer changed.

Imagine three racing rides at Kings Island doing racing better than the huge one up at Cedar Point...

But will those three actually do racing? Well SSBR (should be) both sides of Racer on any given day (maybe?) and both sides of River Racers (maybe?).

Jesus a $450k remodel for a merch stand?

I'd guess this is one or both shoppes at the front gate.  If they are spending almost half a million dollars, it sounds like significant reno.  Truthfully, they need to so this to Germany and Italy.  Switzerland has been redone with Grain and Grill and Starbux, Spain has been redone with Sweet Spot, France had a light remodel with The French (Cajun)  Corner Bar and Bistro and Worlds Greatest Funnel Cakes.

They are adding a bar :P

What would that make it, like 5 bars now? Also, what's going in that stand they just built in Action Zone next to Chicken Shack? I thought I knew at one time but must have forgotten because I can't remember now.

The flooring on the left side (snoopy theme shop) is in horrible condition, and both sides look terribly dates and... well... terrible.

The things that got finished right away were all bars. The thing that they didn't bother with until the season was basically over is a Coke stand.

Looks like a new permit has been filed for Coney BBQ Kitchen Reno with a Job Value of $100,000.00.

Wondering if any change is coming to the menu with the reno.

Other Permits Filed for 2025 Season:

  • Subway/Blue Ice Cream Building Reno - $145,000.00

-Screenshot from Google Maps - not sure what it looked like in 2024.

  • Already discussed, Soak City Bathroom Remodel - Job Value $650,000.00
  • Possibly discussed previously, Dippin Dots Storage Shed - Job Value $24,500.00
  • Semi-worth noting, they are doing a Greenhouse replacement as well, per the permit filed in November - Job Value $$22,846.00.
  • As shared earlier, a front gate gift shop reno is taking place - Job Value $450,000.00.

Not included, River Racers and Soak City water attraction upgrades.

I, for one, do love to see the investment and care put into Soak City. I visit Soak City a few times a season and in general I'm not really a water park guy. But this off season is honestly the most excited I've been to return to Soak City ever! Not only am I excited to return to Island BBQ, but I'm also excited to see all the upgrades as well as experience River Racers. I don't think River Racers is going to be the greatest water ride ever, but to have a water coaster at Soak City in the first place is something I look forward to.

I took a look at the blueprints and it really appears to be pretty much back of house. There was a page with the blueprints of the coney mall bathroom, probably linking a water line or something like that. I can’t read blueprints that well and for some reason they are not wanting to load this morning.

I haven't been able to find the blueprints online. Just the basic permit information.

For those who don't get out to the waterpark much, this picture is pretty outdated. The Subway building was expanded to include an indoor queue at some point. I think that happened in 2012 when the "new" wavepool was added. Hard to believe that was over a decade ago. It will be pretty nice to be able to beat the heat while waiting in line for ice cream. I hope they add some kind of blue ice cream theming to the inside.

Edit to add, who remembers when this dining location was called "Sharkeys?"

@befat that's why I gave the disclaimer that the pic was from Google Maps and not sure what it looked like in 2024.

Looks like the gift shop reno is going to be the Kings Island Trading Company, which will include an outdoor merch patio of sorts.

Looking further into the permits, looks like all three major restrooms/bathhouses are being renovated in Soak City. The one closest to the entrance (near the train station), the one next to Coconut Cove and the one near the wave pool/RiverRacers).

Sinking some serious cash into renos this offseason.

The park website has been updated with attraction pages for RiverRacers and the new/renamed slides in Splash River Junction. It looks like Bluegill Lagoon is the water tower area, Riverbank Slide Out is the renamed Aruba Tuba, Salamander Sliders is the 7 new slides, and the Tadpool is a pool for the smallest swimmers. Nothing has been added yet for the new blue ice cream stand, but the pages for all of the front gate shops (KI Trading Post, KI Collections, and Convenience Corner) have been removed. Maybe they'll be renamed, but who knows. Off-season is quite exciting this time around!

April can't seem to come fast enough!
