jdf21972
Kings Dominion just announced their Opening Day and schedule of events and Winterfest is not shown and KD Fans also reporting that it will not return also. CA Great America also not having Winterfest this year as the park might be closing at the end of this year. Is this a sign of something else to come as we love our Winterfest event but this has me worried that they will cancel Winterfest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Orion-XL200
I don't think we'll lose Winterfest....there's a chance, but I doubt it. With the Six special events being listed here: Winterfest is still a thing, while the specific parks may not be listed (other than Canada's Wonderland), Carowinds will have it again this year...I don't see KI losing it as it was a part of the park for much longer than KD.
WoodVengeance
Using the Wayback machine, I found that Kings Dominion did include "Unlimited Winterfest visits in 2024 AND 2025" when they started selling their 2025 season passes. However, there is a disclaimer at the bottom that states "Season Pass benefits subject to change without notice."

Oldiesmann
One thing that people are forgetting with KD is that another major amusement park an hour away also has a big holiday event - one that's better than Winterfest from what I've heard (I've never been due to my work schedule that time of year and the fact that it's 9 hours away). I'm not sure how much the two parks compete for visitors, but I'm sure that was part of the reason for their decision. KI doesn't have that.

It's just giving people in the Virginia area all the more reason to buy season passes for BGW instead.
WoodVengeance
Personally I don't see Kings Island dropping their Winterfest event anytime soon when the event still draws in crowds like this.
BeeastFarmer
It seemed that they were going to invest in Kings Dominion for the long term and elevate it back to a top tier park. That now seems to not be the case. Is it the new world's of fun?
Aaron88stang
Kings Dominion is a nice park, but it does not draw near the crowds Kings Island does.
Imperial79
I doubt the park is going to cancel our WinterFest, it’s been a very popular event ever since it came back in 2017, and they’ve been adding to it, making it better. My guess is with the cuts in labor this year, maybe it just became too much and they had to cut something else so this is what they had to cut. Hopefully someday they can bring it back. Edit: looks like Carowinds is keeping theirs, so that’s a good sign ours is staying.
coastergoblin
Crazy that KD cancelled winterfest it’s almost like they didn’t open their indoor rides, restaurants, or change the event line up once since 2018… This is classic CF, if it doesn’t work just cancel it, don’t try to change it, just give up. Happens all over the chain, what a shame.

That was 2023, and in 2024 what did KD do to level the playing field with BGW’s Christmas Town? Nothing.

So they had two options - get rid of Winterfest or add more rides to the lineup. I am sure there is another reason that will present itself in due time. Or maybe it was simply a cost-cutting measure. Edit: looks like Carowinds is keeping theirs, so that’s a good sign ours is staying. Popularity has nothing to do with it. There's a reason why full-time staff is being let go at parks, why departments will be run with minimal staffing on operating days, why events like WinterFest aren't returning to Kings Dominion and California's Great America. While Carowinds announced WinterFest as part of their 2025 events lineup, remember Kings Island did the same thing in 2006 only to cancel WinterFest mid-summer.
SmartCat7162
I feel like the park makes money hand over first during Winterfest and would be super disappointed to see it not return. Hopefully KI’s will return with more decorations sent from KD. I will be absolutely devastated if Winterfest does not return everything is so much better during that time. The dining experience is elevated beyond expectations and just being in the park at that time is magic!
SmartCat7162
It was a trade off for an inside VIP lounge. Glad they decided to keep ours outside so we can keep Winterfest!
CedarPointer
It's hysterical that their response to the passholders they false advertised to is to offer them a coupon for half off one (1) merchandise item, some exclusions may apply. I think it looks professional and it is easy to streamline across the chain. People know the format they should respond with at all call centers. It might seem more impersonal. We've seen a lot of that too.
