Disrupting our daily lives and making us live in fear is the goal of those who perpetrate these acts of terrorism. If we all cower in fear and refuse to go on with our lives then these attacks have taken far more away from our nation as a whole than just the precious lives lost on Monday. We have a responsibility to exercise the freedoms that our sons, daughters, fathers, and grandfathers fought so valiantly for. The cost of freedom is a great but I believe that our ability to overcome tragedies such as these is even greater.15 points

I work less than a mile from the White House and the Capitol Building. I live in the District, seven metro stops away. If I seriously wanted to try to live risk free, I'd do neither of those things.10 points

Do things like this concern me? Sure. They probably concern most people. Will that stop me from doing something? Other than vacationing in the Middle East- HELL NO!9 points

Looks like Greg deleted his tweet, but plenty are tweeting. The Dino in front of the park has been damaged by the 30mph winds happening in the area. It appears to have collapsed. What does this mean to our poor dino? Will it be there for opening day? Of course I have a picture. (Photo is not mine)8 points

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum from you. My thought process is that if it's going to happen, it's going to happen- whether I like it or not. Yes, I would hate to see something like that happen at a place where the main goal is to be happy, but there is nothing we can do to stop it. Maybe that is just because I assume that people are generally good? I don't like to worry about things, especially in a situation like that, but I can definitely see where you are coming from. Plus if I die, I know where I'm going anyway8 points

Our National Anthem was written during a battle in which selfless men, in the face of intense, unceasing shelling, climbed over the mangled, bloody remains of their fallen brethren, just to keep the U.S. Flag fllying in defiance of the British Navy. For me to avoid living freely and enjoying the blessings of liberty by not attending a crowd-oriented event or facility would mock their hallowed sacrifice. I've had a good 44 years in this country. If it stops there at the hands of a foreign or domestic enemy, so be it; but for all they might think they can take away, there's manifold much they never can! God Bless America!7 points

To change the way we live our lives after some kook or kooks set off a bomb is just what they want. If we give in to their threats and let it effect how we go about our lives is to admit defeat and they win. We will not give in and we will vow to go to the ends of the Earth to find the people or groups that support them and bring them to justice and not allow them to hide in countries that support them. But if we hide in our bunkers and become paranoid about who or when they might hit us, then they win and we loose.6 points

I prefer not to live my life in a bubble. None of these events really scare me. I do make sure I am always aware of places to hide/escape routes in case something were to happen, but I'm not going to stop visiting public places. If something were to happen, I at least would die doing something I loved.5 points

I definitely understand the paranoia. I have several family members that feel similarly. I'd be one of them, except I keep thinking of how you're really at the mercy of other people no matter what you do. I don't say that negatively--it's just how the world works. Someone can make a wrong decision on the road and take you out while driving. Someone can accidentally switch medication and destroy one of your senses. Mistaken juries have had people executed for crimes they didn't commit. People will lie about you behind your back and keep you from getting the job, inspectors will shluff off a crack in the space shuttle heat shield, and both domestic and foreign terrorists will continue to do exactly what their name implies. If something bad is going to happen to you, is there really anything you can do to 100% prevent it? For me, I choose to be aware that these sorts of things can and will happen, but I don't see the point (except in extreme cases**) in letting it redirect my life. A close relative of mine would not see The Dark Knight Rises in theaters because of the Aurora shooting. I understand that there are things like copycats, but this relative specifically would not see TDKR, like it was cursed. Even if the shooter in that incident had some sort of obsession with The Joker, that doesn't mean that every other movie out there is safe. The same thing could happen whether you're watching The Dark Knight Rises or Gone With The Wind. So why let it stop you? Like others have said: if you let it stop you, the terrorists win. ** "Extreme cases" meaning that there is clear forewarning of something bad happening. Obviously, if a terrorist cell announces they're going to unleash something terrible at Amusement Park on May xx, I'm not going to visit Amusement Park on or around that date.5 points

and pardon the double post but if there's anyone out there who hasn't seen "The Cincinnati Kids" before and would like to, here is a link to the (what seems to be) recently posted video courtesy of CBS.com http://www.cbs.com/shows/the_brady_bunch/video/2104826261/the-brady-bunch-the-cincinnati-kids I think it's pretty neato to see the park that long ago.3 points

I had the pleasure of meeting Susan Olsen ( Cindy), Mike Lookinland ( Bobby), and Barry Williams ( Greg) when they were at the park Labor Day weekend of 2008 They were all so nice especially Susan. Cannot wait to see them again-will be nice to see ( and hopefully meet) Christopher Knight.( Peter.) as well. Kind of dissappointed that Florence Henderson ( Mrs Brady) and Ann B. Davis ( Alice, earlier know as Schultzy in Love that Bob. ) won't be there but you can't always have everything.. PS How about bringing the Partiridges next? Although Mrs. Brady was a cool mom, I would have to give Mrs. Partiridge the edge in the cool meter. ( After all she did play in a band.) Just saying.3 points

The same chances of that we may know how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop.The world may never know 986, That is the number of licks I sometimes had too much time as a child but I was determined to know that answer. It all depends on how you lick it but around the 1,000 range seems pretty close. A birdie told me it took 3.2 points

I guess I should have been a bit more clear in my if Pat would not be in any commercials it may deter me from coming. I meant that if I were a GP member that visited the park often and to suddenly see that Pat wasn't going to be in any commercials and to see the news of Eckert saying she wouldn't be in any of them, would deter me. People like what they know. It's been proven time and time again in various park situations. But you are correct, Pat is getting old. Sooner or later she won't be there. That's why I cherish the small memories I have of her and have these wishes that she were a part of the commercials and the park as she was. As Terpy said, having Eckert spin this as a positive thing, is a bit distasteful.2 points
-
Because of the reason she's not in the ads. That's why. A family fight is taking place over who owns/controls the park. For Matt to spin this as a positive change of direction for the park is distasteful at best. HE said not to expect Pat in ads. He should have just kept his mouth shut about that. If Dan wins his appeal, look for a change in management at the park. Lori FIRED Dan. Let us not forget.2 points

I've always had the thought in my mind about a situation like this happening, but if I go to the park or any other place with this fear, to me, that means they win. I won't stand for that. You will see me on opening day, and every other day there with a worry free attitude and a big smile!1 point

I've recently been just reading the forums... but I do have to but in on this. I would be willing to bet that some shooting or bombing will happen at an amusement park this year. (No, I don't actually know for real) It has happened during a marathon, at a movie theater, and at a school, an amusement park is a PERFECT place for an attack. Security at Kings Island is relatively low, sure, you got some security guards walking around, making sure everything's cool. BUT, as annoying as they were, I think metal detectors MUST return. Anybody that thinks it won't ever happen at a theme park, I think you are wrong. I am surprised it hasn't already happened....1 point

And no longer a Six Flags. Today's Six Flags management is not the Six Flags of old. And the old Elitch's was splendid. Moving downtown was almost certainly a huge mistake.1 point

No, I'm not that big of a Brady Bunch fan. I've only ever seen "The Cincinnati Kids" a couple of times and I only watched it to see what the park looked like way back when. Plus I was about umm -24 when they filmed that episode. So I may go to the park on May19th, but not to see the Bunch.1 point

I emaied Sherry Vogel, the PR manager at IB, and she said she asked the maintenance crew and they expect that element to be operational this season!1 point

Hmm...wonder what they are going to do if/when a big new roller coaster (possibly as part of an AZ expansion) on the map, because Flight Deck sure does hog a lot of that space on the current map...I'm thinking they would move Flight Deck down to its original location... They may have also moved Flight Deck to its current location to hide the fact it is far from the rest of, well, anything not named Son of Beast! (2012 Map if it talked: "Oh yeah, it's not that far a walk..." People begin walking to FD... Map: "Suckas!" )1 point

To not see Pat Koch in any commercials would deter me from coming in all honsety. When I first met her a few years ago, she literally made me feel like a part of her family. She knew that I was from Ohio and had never been to the park before. Throughout the day, as I passed her and Dan on the midways, she would stop whatever she was doing to see if I was having a good day at the park! Such a sweet lady! I sure hope she's at the park this year, even if I don't visit.1 point

An absence of the matriarch in ads is already going to impact the park. The "spin" put on this by Matt is, in my opinion, nothing short of shameful.1 point

Later, the commercials may have more appeal. This whole tragic situation is just sordid.1 point

The Racer needs desperately to be repainted for like the last five years now. I wish for it to return to its 1972 colors. I also think it would be cool if they divided the station into colors, meaning everything that is currently red on the blue side should be painted blue. Also, they need to finish Invertigo's paint job by painting everything left that is red/yellow into blue. Especially the entrance sign.1 point

As long as it's not pouring down rain, I'll be there. We're still 11 days out so I wouldn't put too much faith in what the weather report says now. We all know how that can change from day to day. 60 degrees would be great though!1 point

Yes, the company chose to. And PTC no longer recommends operation of PTC wooden coaster trains unless they face forward. In Ohio, ride operators must follow manufacturers' recommendations for a ride to be licensed. Note other PTC wood coaster trains ceased backward operation that same season, especially in jurisdictions that require manufacturers' recommendations to be followed. There are requirements and there are nostalgic stories. One is a much better public interface than the other. That doesn't mean both aren't true.1 point
