BeeastFarmer
While I am not Mason or Ohio construction specialist, I doubt that a permit is required for small areas that are undergoing general maintenance. This hardly qualifies as "land clearing." It looks like routine maintenace. If you remember, a couple of posters here were convinced about something happening to Timberwolf when there some tree removals. It turned out to be sprucing up the venue to prepare for the summer concert series. I doubt they had to get a permit to remove those trees.
MrSourNinja
I definitely in the boat that this is probably nothing important unless we see a lot more.

For Mystic Timbers, the Notice of Commencement mentioning Great Coasters International was filed around the same time the ride was announced while land clearing was already obvious. I assume land clearing does have to be filed somewhere, though, whether it be in a past Notice of Commencement or a permit. Permits are different than Notice of Commencements. Kings Island has to file permits for small things like the VIP tent in Oktoberfest. At this time, Carowinds has already filed a slew of permits related to their 2023 Aviation themed area. In addition, Cedar Point has filed a permit for their new 12,000,000 Grand Pavilion building. Attached below is a City of Mason website listing all permits filed by month. Unfortunately, this website does not go back beyond 2020, so we cannot see when Kings Island would have filed permits for past additions like Mystic Timbers and Orion to see if there is a pattern that could possibly match the pattern of a future addition. I know people are going to be eager to dig through these permits, but there really are not any intriguing permits filed by Kings Island unless I missed some. I remember seeing permits for fireworks, the VIP Lounge, renovations to Coconut Cove, a new ticket window awning, and modifications to Kings Island HR. However, I assume all past permits are available in person as well as recent permits not yet published on this website. Also, if any plans have been submitted to the City of Mason, those would also be available in person. https://imaginemason.org/city-government/engineering-building-planning/monthly-permit-reports/ I think Kings Island submitted the plans for Orion to the city in 2018.

Oldschool75
Some more marking showing up on the edge of old Columbia road. Some are for excavation and gas line relocation. Judging by where previous markers were seen during Covid and removed I’m thinking we are seeing the beginning of an new and updated front gate area. FUN&ONLY!
@Oldschool75, would such a project require some documentation with the City of Mason or Warren County? I know just surveying probably does not require anything as of now.

Sometimes preliminary approval is given without paperwork officially submitted, and later filed when the project is commencing.
disco2000
Surveying and preliminary engineering does not require a permit. A zone change is not required, so the park could wait until final plans are produced and submit for permits then if it works with their schedule.

Just me wishing but I wish Cedar Fair would build a coaster with the entrance.
Browntggrr
Why would new/ refreshed entrance require a larger footprint than it already is? I believe the current entrance area is bigger than necessary. The original design was for trams to be used to bring guests to their cars.
silver2005
If anything, most CF park entrance redesigns have made them smaller.

brenthodge
Why are people so in love with a gate coaster? I like that KI doesn’t play all it’s cards up front. You know what’s inside-you don’t need a coaster screaming over the front door to build excitement. If anything I feel it diminishes it. I like that international restaurant is getting a lot more use here of late-pretty much ensuring that if we do get a new entrance experience-they won’t be “opening it up” too much , and we will still get that wonderful compress and release view that Disney and KI mastered so well. 9

Agreed, agreed and agreed! If there ever is front gate renovation, I hope it is considered as Phase II of the Interntional Street rehab. Restore the landscaped logo berm on the left. Remove the banners and put flags back up. Add trees and flowers. Replace the shingles with another material and maybe add some dormers to break up the long bare roofline. Update the buildings on the left to look international. Replace the blacktop behind the Eifel Tower. Add some blue spruce trees and flower beds around the tower. Replace pavers in Tower Gardens. Remove the Junkyard Coaster and renovate the entire area into a Parisian Promenade with a few small classic flat rides, curved walking paths, lush landscaping and statuary and an Arc Triumphe. Oh and for goodness sakes, restore the ornate gas lamps on IS, entry plaza and in Parisian Promenade.

IndyGuy4KI
I heard a lot of construction noises this morning as I was walking into the park. But as you can see, there's still not much you can see from the Eiffel Tower. 3

Maybe they are adding a FastLane line to Timberwolf Or would it be FastLane PLUS lol. There is active construction within Timberwolf adding steps and walkway to the VIP area, so that is probably what @IndyGuy4KI heard.
Hawaiian Coasters 325
Ik this idea sounds insane and likely won't happen, but I decided to come up with this anyway. What if the park really wants to start really pushing Timberwolf concerts down the road and I think a good way to do that is give it a Grand entrance for those who just want to go to the concerts. Think a mini Universal CityWalk or Hershey's ChocolateTown. Where it features shops and a restaurant or two and even a bar. My idea requires the removal of Invertigo and Congo
KI FANATIC 37
Looks very nice and would make that area look great. I doubt they would do this though because I think part of the reason they have these concerts is to bring people into the park. Drives more money spent in the park. Still, really cool concept!

It also could be a neat place for winter shows and eats (Have a small indoor theater for live or electronic shows, a couple of eateries and maybe an indoor FEC or something)
disco2000
The area is now flat and gravel - could it be parking/staging area for the equipment and performers coming in to Timberwolf?
