Backlot Stunt Coaster Becomes Queen City Stunt Coaster

Recommended Posts

Launching today is “Queen City Stunt Coaster”, the renamed Backlot Stunt Coaster, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this season. The coaster, which accelerates to 40 mph in just 3 seconds, has been renamed to honor Cincinnati by featuring its beautiful skyline and iconic landmarks.

Well I rode it last night and the billboards and signage look great however none of the effects with the helicopter or fire were working so if they have decided not to do that anymore it will be a crying shame considering that our stunt cars was the only one that had those effects working previously

Oops my bad. I thought this was by KI, and didn't look carefully at who it was made by. I will look more carefully next time. It has been removed

It happens.

This guy doing the POV and those breaking rules during passholder preview should be an immediate ban as they know better!

It really ruins the ride when they have to stop the ride and tell people to put their phones away

This was a really good idea using Queen City as the theme.  Maybe this can put down our fears that KI will just start putting Six Flags IP's all over the park??  They could have themed it to Metropolis and have the Penquin shooting at us from the helicopter.

Don't give them any ideas LOL.

Wait so does this mean we're not getting our BatMobile Backlot Coaster, Joker's Jalopies, Superman Flyers, or Doom Drop? Aw man, I was looking forward to the park losing all of its character and becoming the new soulless Six Flags South of Cedar Point! I can't believe Six Flags bought Kings Island and is already running it into the ground.

FYI This post is satire and is not meant to parody/offend anyone.

While I like how they replaced most of the LA references with those of Cincy, I, personally, am not a fan of the new name. It still has too much of a movie vibe and seems more like a lazy renaming.

How this could have been better in my opinion is that the cars would also have been dressed up to resemble taxicabs and the coaster be named, “Queen City Tour Taxis.”

Or, if the park doesn't want to pay royalties for using sports teams' logos, use food logos- Red- LaRosa's, White- Graeters, Blue- Skyline.

It’s also possible to remove the logos for the sports teams and just go heavy on the colors. I don’t think a tiger stripped car is infringing on anything.

How much longer do you think this ride has left in service life?  20 years old, launch coaster and some strong track stress points. If it has about 10 years left, I don't see them investing much. If they plan on long term ride life, it would be awesome to see them invest in an idea such as yours. Reskin the cars, remove or dress up the Conex containers, landscape heavily and remove the junkyard theme.

They could theme each train with those colors as a nod, what other Cincinnati/NKY easter eggs could they throw in?

This was a really creative idea. I wonder if this was a project that they wanted to do for a while or if this was something that came to mind last minute.

I would imagine a more last minute change. Don't think it was a long planned overhaul but is a nice change. Just with how basic the swap is as it seems to mostly just be new billboards, pictures on the boards, and new name, it doesn't seem like something that is a big refurb or investment. Nice to see it get a little sprucing up, but it is a pretty basic change that doesn't really amount to much more than a new coat of paint, so I don't think this was something that was a long time coming, just something to recognize the anniversary and add something "new" to the dry park during a smaller year where the new attraction is a water slide.

This saturday when the ride was down I observed them looking at some of the launch infrastructure, and it occured to me they house a lot of the transformers and power components in the shipping containers nearest to the launch track as well as the storage track. So I really don't think we'll ever see them remove the shipping containers without doing some major work, they basically all either have track winding through them for the second half, or critical launch technology built inside.

I wonder if they are "real" containers or if they are just a series of shipping container walls and ceilings stacked on top of each other, all living on one concrete pad. My best guess would be the latter. If they can't be easily removed I think it would be a great idea to repaint them with fun park-related graffiti. A second option would be to have a more professional-looking mural painted on like exists all over Cincinnati.

Which I totally respect the park for doing considering they didn’t have to do it at all.

They were smart to keep “stunt coaster“ in the name to establish that it’s still a stunt coaster, but it’s themed to Cincinnati instead of Los Angeles. That being said, I do think they could spruce up the show scene before you enter the tunnel a little bit. I’m assuming the rebrand was also an excuse to turn off the helicopter as well as the fire affects.

If they removed the helicopter from the ride in the off-season, I don’t think as many people would be upset about it. Heck, they could rehome it in area 72 somewhere if they really wanted to.

Mostly they are. Several house electronics for the rides. Several are tornado shelters if needed.

Yea I didn't necessarily mean it in a negative way. I do like that they are using down seasons like these to spruce up some of the rides. This and the Flight of Fear lighting were nice surprises for this season. Just meant more that I don't think it required a ton of advance effort to be something that was planned for a long time.
