CedarPointer
The description and the way the "flashlights" are depicted in the promo art reminds me a lot of Monsters Inc. Ride & Go Seek at Tokyo Disneyland, where you point an actual light at the props to set them off. That would be a nice alternative to the current blasters, although I feel like that won't be how it actually works.
RollerColt
I'm very happy with this. I love that we're getting something that is unique and a throwback to the park itself and not just IP.
SonofBaconator
ever since Knotts Berry Farm brought back Berry tales I had thought that Kings Island would get something like this. It’s a good way to still keep the shooting aspect while removing the bland theming, as well as cashing in on nostalgia. I think something that’s more important to know is that the Phantom theater IP is officially back! Sure there has been some merchandise out prior and we did have the two seasons of the show in the KI Theater- but after Paramount closed the ride in the early 2000s up until really the 2022 season of Cedar Fair ownership, guests were only ever exposed to Phantom Theater during Fearfest/Haunt when the props were displayed. It’s still baffles my mind that the fresh, original, IP just sat unused for 20 years. I know there are people who are upset that it’s not a complete return to what the park was given in the 90s, but with all things considered I say this is a fair compromise. 3

This attraction seems to the be most reasonable compromise between what the old die hard PT fans wanted and also what the GP and average guests want. Alot of kids love the shooting aspect of boo Blaster so realistically it was a stretch to think that was ever going away. I agree that it can make a ride more re-rideable especially if the story isn't Disney caliber. I for one view this as a win - it should be better than boo Blaster. Will it be as good as the original PT? Probably not but hey it probably never was going to be that good and frankly the original was not built for the screen addicted generation of kids we have today. This ride will be more popular amongst families than if they brought back a carbon copy of the original

jbeast
I am old enough to remember, as a very young kid, Enchanted Voyage and was bummed when it was gone. I was never a big Smurf fan, so I enjoyed being inside in a/c on a hot day with that version. I grew up with Scooby but always wanted Phantom back. I absolutely loved Phantom Theater. I think it speaks volumes to all who cherished rides on Phantom Theater that the park decided to bring a new version back. Cannot thank them enough for recognizing the love for the original. Now just bring back my Flying Eagles...ha! I wish! It was totally unique to KI and I am so happy that that will continue again.

Obviously that's probable but.. i think it could be economical if they just reverse the direction hehe They probably won't do it but I'd LOVE if they did make it run the opposite direction so that it feels like a different layout. Also I'm pretty sure the vehicle swivels can be changed so even if it runs the same direction as it always has, maybe the swivel will be different

This doesn't fit the 2026 Family Thrill attraction...unless that's been canceled in lieu of this...or there is still something waiting around the corner for the old Crypt building (highly doubtful...) I feel like that got put on the backburner indefinitely if it was planned to go in the crypt. I think the Conjuring will be in the Crypt for at least a few seasons. Now Usually, I would think since we're getting a smaller addition in 2026, that 2027 would be a major addition (kinda like how we got antique cars in 2019 then Orion in 2020). However, with the financial state of Six Flags right now, it wouldn't shock me if the 2027 capital are just postponed 2026 additions (ie Great Adventure launch coaster, Carowinds super flume, Magic Mountain thrill glider etc) and KI likely just gets park improvements or a small flat ride and then 2028 is the big year for KI. Now, I could see 2027 being our year if we end up losing Invertigo and Congo at the end of the season, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Something I would like to see return is some of the practical effects like the following busts- the ones that they brought back and put in the lobby of Phantom theater: encore- the effect literally requires no effort since it’s all visual manipulation.

johnjniehaus
Haven't we already established that Phantom could have been a 2023 plan that got pushed out? Stands to reason that whatever the family thrill ride was for next year could have also gotten pushed out or cancelled

I believe someone later commented that 2023 was originally a Soak City expansion. However, there's no way to know for sure what the original 2023 plan was pre Adventure Port.
BryanJay
Quick thoughts because I'm freaking the heck out, but I've also had an hour to reflect on it: - 99% of my fears were relieved when they said there's multiple animatronics in this, especially that Lionel Burymore gets one, he's so underrated. Hopefully there's a few more characters that aren't listed that make a cameo in this. - I think two things are true: 1. The design of Maestro looks off and it'll take time to get used to. 2. The original animatronics looked like they were melting even during construction, so I think it's not horrible. I'm very curious if AI was used to make the promo art. It looks like it might be to me, but I'm optimistic it's not. The designs will look better in person I'm sure . - I wonder if the track will be extended/a preshow will be added. The release says there's 26 scenes, and even in Boo Blasters saying there's 20 scenes in the ride is generous. Considering it hasn't been used the past year, it wouldn't be shocking if the track was extended into that space, or maybe even use some of the space in the original theater scene (I'd be SHOCKED if the pepper's ghost effect returns in any actual way during the ride considering the flashlight aspect.) It's my hope though that the Maestro animatronic stays in the queue and no screens are placed there. - I'm split about the shooting aspect, because on one hand the musical note ghost bit sounds childish, but also when I zoomed in to see what they looked like, they made me laugh with how stupid they looked, so I think it could be silly. -I hope they keep the original music, even if it's a new recording. It's just so iconic to me, and I hope it makes an appearance. - The name is perfect, I'm glad they didn't use "Phantom Theater:Return of the revenge of the Maestro" I'm sure I'll have more to say tonight when I'm done with work, be those are my initial thoughts. I have some fears, but honestly just really happy people will know these characters again.
Timchat2
Will any music from Phantom Theater Encore show up, even just as Easter eggs? I'd imagine "Happy Feet" would be in the mix.

johnjniehaus
I also thought the concept art looked a little A.I. but maybe the final product will look better

CedarPointer
The park responded to a Facebook comment and said it's not AI. I think it suffers from the fact that the style is so similar to the slop AI puts out when you say "generate an image of X in Pixar style".
johnjniehaus
Well if it's not A.I. they should do a better job in the future of making sure it doesn't look like it is lol. As long as the final product delivers it doesn't matter what the promotional material looks like. I'm curious if the opera boxes are going to be painted red like they are in the poster because the original phantom doom buggies were kinda greyish blue
calakapepe
Welp... I only briefly thought it couldve been AI until I saw some small details that werent out of place like the poster above the audience showing maestro and the video version showing another ghoul peaking from behind the curtain.. however.. there is one detail that I do not understand what it is. I see the other notes have swirls, or eyes, or wings... but I dont understand why this sharp symbol has an eye out by itself nor what the other markings are. But i figured if this is the only thing, it's probably not AI.. good to have it confirmed I suppose
Hawaiian Coasters 325
I'm honestly wondering what the exterior is going to look like. Will they keep the Castle and dress it up to look like an old opera house like Music Hall? Will they remove the Castle and make the entrance like how it was for the original Phantom Theater? Will they move the entrance to just the right of the exit and make it more on International Street instead of Planet Snoopy? This is interesting to see. I'm honestly leaning towards they'll keep the entrance where it is right now and strip the castle and put up a theater looking building. If so, I'm hoping they remove the stone bridge and put in a pathway that looks like the entrance to a theater.

Hopefully something similar to the original of at least something that looks like a vaudeville opera house. I do wish the entrance would not be in Planet Snoopy but I highly doubt they would move the entrance. I also kinda think the bridge stays as is unfortunately. As long as they get rid of the castle facade I'll be happy

Maybe add a "red carpet" on it.
