Is that why many other regional and year long parks are seemingly moving in the other direction?
-
Of course I wouldn’t want the park to be closed. Nor would I want the schedules or hours of the park to be affected. (But they ARE being affected) I’m also not the park president or CEO, so I can’t strategically say what I would do. That said, they’re paid well more than $18 an hour so it’s their job to figure this out. I don’t know if I believe that “staffing” is the issue at its core. Plenty of people want to work, but is the park/CF willing to pay those $18/hr employees to do so? It might not be in their budget. That in itself is an issue because it’s absolutely something that shouldn’t been planned for. It’s their job. Professionally speaking, of an issue arises in my career/job that falls under my jurisdiction I’m expected to be responsible for it. It’s my job to do so. Cutting corners like this is not only inconvenient, but also a customer service/relations nightmare.

This is a great summation of the entire situation. Pretty spot on, but here’s where I think there are a few issues. As a season pass holder, why would I want to open my wallet when: 1. There are numerous security and saftey issues. 2. When the quality of a number of the aforementioned products are inconsistent (food, etc.). 3. A significant reduction in hours and (potential) special events. 4. Lack of direct communication in regards to changes to their customer base. I understand that it’s a difficult situation to be in, but I find it hard to believe that the demand and popularity of the park was underestimated given the circumstance of the last year. I’m not trying to be negative, but I also don’t want to have the wool pulled over my eyes, so to speak. I feel like my money is better spent elsewhere given the current situation. Especially given that other parks are doing more, not less.

Call me old fashioned, but maybe don’t run a business unless you can afford to run a business...? I don’t think this a good excuse.

If they advertised Haunt to sell season passes, then cancel it... that’s extremely weak. With that said, as I’ve gotten older I’ve been less into the event anyway. Winterfest is a much better event in my opinion. I’d love some kind of revamped fall event, though. Something along the lines of a food festival with a 2-3, high quality, well staffed mazes. Obviously, some events focused on kids would be a huge hit too. Again, advertising Haunt only to pull the plug is pretty lame for those purchasing passes in hopes of attending the event.

There’s an app?

Definitely split my time between here and ExtremePKI back in the day! Very good times and fantastic memories!

Special shout out to the park for saving me money this season. Probably won’t be making it after work like I had planned when I bought my pass. Weak.

KI Modifies Park Hours for Memorial Day Weekend to June 10th
beastfan11 replied to chad_1138's topic in Kings Island
Wow, I got banned from reacting/liking/commenting on the parks Facebook page for referencing the early closings, etc. As someone who does social media marketing professionally, I’d love to give a shout out to the severe level of unprofessionalism being displayed by the park. Bravo. -
Memorial Day Weekend and it not open?

I wish there was new management in place before the removal of the rides. -
Don’t know if this has been posted. I’m just now getting up to speed in regards to what happened. If this was truly a reoccurring situation that wasn’t addressed until it got out of hand... That’s pretty shameful on the parks end. Pretty incredible that an officer had apparently been pepper sprayed? Did they hire their security guards from Intamin?
-
Look, if they’re not going to say or do anything about people running around with guns, can we at least get the live train robber actors back on the KI&MVRR?

Great memories. Had the pleasure of being there. Certainly doesn’t feel like it was that long ago. -

Thanks for sharing. I actually live up the street from where the park used to be. A lot of very cool history with only a few remnants around still. Check out this documentary if you’re interested in more! -
Discussing Land and Space in and around Vortex
beastfan11 replied to Klabergian Empire's topic in Kings Island
I don’t think a coaster necessarily needs to go there. The whole piece of land could be redeveloped as a Coney Mall expansion. I’d love to see a new dark ride, flats, or log flume occupy that area. It would have to be something absolutely iconic, though. Vortex is going to be tough to replace. -
What a refreshing statement. Couldn’t agree more.

There are plenty of (non-Disney) parks that feature “expensive” animatronics, yet they’re able to keep up with maintenance. Sally has done some pretty impressive work that far outshines Boo Blasters: I don’t want to come across as too insulting, but theming upkeep just hasn’t been a major priority for the park in the last ten years or so. (See AE) That said, it looks like that may be changing given some recent additions. A Phantom Theatre revival could definitely be possible. There are a wide variety of classic and contemporary dark rides adored by enthusiasts across the world. Animatronics are possible if done correctly and maintained over time. I’d just hate to see any new dark ride rely too heavily on screens. Scooby/Boo Blasters just lacked/lacks the charm of any attractions that previously resided in that building. Besides, if they were able to develop and open this type of attraction in 1992, I’m sure they’d be able to do it now. I’d love to see it.

Cool stuff. I’d also love some more info once you’re allowed to share! Phantom Theatre is probably my all time favorite. I’m not sure if you’ve seen these, but they may be of some help: https://www.dafe.org/articles/darkrides/phantomTheater.html http://www.dafe.org/articles/darkrides/phantomPharewell.html Hope this helps!
