Flight of Fear Removal?

Screamscape came out with an article today saying that there are new rumors circulating Flight of Fear at both KD and KI. Kings Island seems to be at the center of attention in regards to ride removal rumors. Who knows if these rumors are true, but they are all pointing towards a 2025-2026 removal. REMEMBER: This is just a rumor!

It's not my favorite coaster in the park by any means, but I know it is a favorite among many others. It holds a more nostalgic place in my mind than anything. It would be a pretty great loss though seeing that would eliminate yet another one of our already dwindling list of inverting coasters and it is the more intense of our two launching coasters. So one-two punch there if this rumor comes to fruition.

So at this time the rumors of The Bat or FoF are on the radar of possible removals by the sounds of it. And either one of those would be a sad loss.

Not enjoying this theme of removal rumors vs theme of replacement rumors. Because at this time we have no idea what our 2026 addition will be.

FoF definitely has it's fans, and so does The Bat. People aren't going to like it if either gets removed. Personally, FoF and The Bat are not on the top of my rankings, but every once in a while I want to change it up and go on it. I would hate to see either one of these go, but understand that they are old and expensive (Don't care if they remove Invertigo though).

That would open up more space for a new coaster in Area 72, which would be nice, but I still think Action Zone is the area that mostly needs a new coaster, one that goes over the entrance plaza like Leviathan does at Canada's Wonderland, or at least can get closer to it.

Now heres my question:

Why the heck isn't anything at Cedar Point getting touched? Corkscrew is old and needs to be removed, their mine train needs to be removed, Rougarou, Iron Dragon needs to go, they have plenty of stuff to be demolished.

But all the other parks keep removing attractions, hell, even the tallest coaster on the planet?

This is fishy. They're going to prop up Cedar Point at ALL costs.

Snake River Falls, Professor Dilbert's Frontier Fling, Forbidden Frontier (and the playground) have all been removed during the 2024-2025 off season, you could even consider TTD removed as well (2022ish-2023).

Cedar Point is one of the top earning parks in the chain....why not continue to boost it, especially for the recognition and what not. It's not fishy, it's business.

KD is re-theming and refurbishing their FOF for 2025.

KI's continually has one of the longest waits in the park, and its a co-anchor of Area '72.

I don't think they are going anywhere anytime soon.

The KD one is getting rethemed?

If FOF gets removed I'll never go back at all. Its my favorite ride in the entire park.

Same here. Plus if there's rain in the forecast, I know it's a solid coaster I can still rely on some rides. And it's a great winterfest attraction

While I agree with that, remember that Slingshot was repainted/refurbished in 2022 only for it to not operate again so you never know.

Huge difference in Slingshot and a rollercoaster, however.

King Cobra was repainted and removed two years later...

Flight of Fear is approaching 30 years...what if it requires a major expenditure to keep it going....does it get The Vortex or the Loch Ness treatment....

If it gets The Vortex treatment I can absolutely guarantee you the paying guests' first notification will be "Welcome to Winterfest, enjoy the park!  Oh, did we forget to tell you??   Flight of Cheer is SBNO and slated for removal as soon as the park closes 12/31.

Exactly. At that point they would have to make a decision based on rational thought...which seems to be absent in New Six Flags.  FoF is an anchor in Area 72, one could argue that it the entire reason is what it is today.

My point was that it's alot easier to take out SlingShot than a huge ride like FoF.  Unless it has major expensive upgrades to continue to operate, it should have several more years left in it.

Kings Dominion's version is apparently being painted ( exterior) so they'd want a few years left on it as well to maximize the benefit.

I've been wrong before, though. I would not have expected Kingda Ka to get removed.  I would not expected Anaconda or Drop Tower to get removed either.

I think it's a travesty that these rides were removed without proper send offs. SlingShot is the only ride that I can think of at Kings Island that was removed silently, if I am remembering correctly.

I think Mike is trying not to remove another ride under his tenure. I will be interested to see if they are waiting for him to retire  to retire more rides. Great guy I’ve met him a few times only wish the best for the guy he has a lot of love for the park and his job.

Given what's been happening at other parks, I don't think Mike would be the one to make that decision.

He may not be the one making the decision, but he can fight it until he wins or gives in or they relieve him of his duty....

I had heard that the Flight of Fear at Kings Dominion was slated to go to Carowinds.  I also believe that they turned part of the indoor queue of the Kings Dominion version into a Haunt for several seasons.

Kings Island has posted pictures of FoF trains being prepared for the next season and also of The Bat trains being prepared too. I personally don't see Flight of Fear going anywhere. If you have ever gone into the bowl with the lights on, you can see the have replaced various supports and have them marked as to what still needs done vs what has already been replaced. Seems to be that it runs a bit rougher than it once did but I think they are trying to keep it around. I worry about The Bat more especially with it's more remote location - I think it would be missed less by the GP than FoF would be. However, every time The Bat seems to have an issue KI is always on it and gets it running again so I've been surprised before.

Is it random if the lights are on?

He meant if you have ever been in the spaghetti bowl for a tour (at an event like Coasterstock) you'd see the work that has been or needed done with the lights on as you walk through. The lights have been on for the last ride of the night sometimes but you can't see anything as far as what is being talked about.

Yes. I've asked ops for lights on for the last ride and they sometimes do it and sometimes don't. Actually the winterfest ops did it twice for me. During the normal season my experience is they say no or just ignore you.

Yes I was able to go in during the ACE Spring Conference last year. Actually if you get a lights on ride, you can see some of the marked supports while you are stopped on the mid course break run. I believe they are on the left side of the train.
